    This is so much better than before. I have been using this for a week and it drives better than I do but still needs you to pay attention. This system will get better as more videos are put into the system. It is made for those texting moms. 43,000 people are killed in accidents a year. That is a lot of bad decisions. FDS would be much safer even if not perfect.

    It didn’t refuse to,turn right ,the nave clearly showed where it was going. You could have edited the route to make it turn left. After many years of using satnav it often picks routes I find odd ,but has knowledge of live traffic ,time of day and every speed limit on every road.
    Just because it does it differently doesn’t mean it’s wrong!

    Just under 41,000 people died in traffic accidents last year. I have used FSD extensively for the past two years. Up until version 12 my use was 95 percent and after version 12 my use has increased to 99 percent. This includes approximately 9000 miles of highway and city traffic driving. I watch numerous youtube videos like yours. It gets me that almost all say the I would have phrase in judging FSD. Unlike many human drivers, the point of FSD is to drive safely and smoothly. Parking lots are not in the training set yet so judging is useless.

    This free month has been my first experience with FSD. It has done a "good" job of getting me to places correctly and safely, but your statement about it feeling like a new driver is spot on. The car will stop abruptly at times (which you mentioned) but then other times handles it well, so it makes for a pretty uneven and sometimes stressful experience.
    The thing I like the most is the more zoomed-out (drone-like) view of what's going on around the car. I'd rather have only that view for the screen and then manually drive myself everywhere, especially because it's a pretty fun car to drive.

      @dsan2509 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My thoughts exactly

  • @theodorehaskins3756
    @theodorehaskins3756 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    So I’ve been driving on this version of FSD now for about a week or so, and I am super impressed as to where we are today versus where we started out, and I should note that the test that you just put FSD through, I would recommend that you redo that test, and see if the car has made an improvement, and how it was able to navigate, and drive that course you set to the same destination. I tried this, and the car did a little craziness where I had to intervene, and then I reran the same course, and it actually improved on a 2nd attempt.
    So full disclosure, I’ve had FSD beta from the very beginning, when the initial price to opt in was 3K, and then watched it balloon to 15K, before the reduction to 12K, where it’s currently priced today.
    So I’ve seen every iteration Tesla has put out, and as I said, I am super impressed, and next week I’m picking up a Model S dual motor, all-wheel-drive, and they’re allowing me to transfer FSD to the new car, and for me that represent about a $9000 savings, which is my 3K minus the difference between 3K subtracted from 12 K today which results in a savings of 9K in the purchase of the new car, which is kind of what prompted me to buy in at this time, as I was going to wait for the refreshed Model 3, which is going to be a considerable wait time, and I would be prepared to do that if I had the opportunity to transfer FSD, and I don’t know if Tesla would have or will open up another opportunity to transfer FSD in the future, and so we’ll just have to wait to see, but I think I made a pretty good deal on my new purchase.
    So when you think about what this technology is all about, and it’s not about just a convenient play thing, this is revolutionary tech that will change the game, and the idea is to save lives, because humans can drive a motor vehicle just fine, but what we can’t do is drive consistently, and safely all the time, particularly when you think about those who are texting behind the wheel, driving while fatigued, etc. we just don’t drive consistently, and safely all the time, because let’s be clear, there’s nothing really exciting about driving, yeah, it’s exciting when you first start out, but after a few years, it’s really just another chore like doing laundry or vacuuming the carpets, none of which I ever wanted to do.
    So the value will be realized when people see that FSD, not only can drive better than humans, but its driving down cost in terms of property damage and loss of life, because when someone is injured, the first casualty is the ability to take care of themselves, and to function in a normal way, like doing simple things such as going to work, and earning a paycheck, to take care of yourself, and your family, and so the employer immediately suffers a loss of productivity, and lost opportunity for the employee.
    So what we need now is hard numbers that tells the story of how this technology has impacted safety on our nations, roads, streets, bridges, and highways, and when we have those hard numbers, showing a reduction in injuries that results in lowering hospitalizations, because less people are being injured, and treated for those injuries to include death by motor vehicles due to human error, because if you’re in a crash, it’s really not going to be looked at as an accident when you end up in court. The prosecutors are going to say it was negligence, and it was your fault or the other guys fault or both of parties were contributors to the crash, because neither one of you were paying attention to driving.
    So if I am the person who has the best tech when it comes to full self driving cars, and the numbers prove that because of this technology, all the things that I just previously said, prove that the car is safer with this technology in it, who in their right mind would go in any other direction when it comes to their next car purchase?
    So Tesla in my view, is uniquely positioned to do what no other car company/technology company has ever been able to do, and that is to be the first, and who knows, maybe the only car company/technology company that finally cracks the code to the full self driving/autonomous driving car conundrum.
    So think about it this way, can Cruise, Lift or WAYMO, do what Tesla is doing today? Not only can they not do what Tesla is doing today, they don’t make their own cars. Tesla is the only commercially available car that you and I can buy, that doesn’t need all of that ridiculous apparatus on a modified vehicle, like these so-called rides sharing autonomous car companies are doing today, as Tesla cars equipped with FSD, can drive everywhere and anywhere, and at highway speeds.
    So no other car company/technology company that I know of can do that, and if you or anyone know of a car company/technology company that can do that, please let me know, as I’d be interested in taking a look at exactly who they are, and what exactly are they doing to achieve the same results as Tesla is today, and so until someone shows me that, I’m sticking with Tesla, and I would not be surprised, in fact, I would be surprised that by this time next year, we will not just have a fully autonomous car that’s capable of driving itself anywhere, but we also have auto park and smart summon solved, and that’s a big part of it for me, because quite frankly I have no interest in actually driving my car, but I have a great amount of interest in my car driving me wherever I want to go and to get me there safely. Cheers 🥂

    The auto set speed basically just hides the set speed and sets it to 80-85mph; but is otherwise like you setting it manually. For both the behavior will let it figure out actual speed to go. E.g. if you set it to 50mph in a 45mph zone it won't go over 50, but with auto speed on it could decide "looks like a 70mph zone".
    What you mentioned at the end is pretty much where I'm at too. I bought it on my 3 Performance ~5 years ago for handling the freeway portion of my commute with advanced autopilot. Got FSD pushed right around the start of safety scores. It's been nice to have a "backup" driver to help get me home when I stretch funny at work and throw out my back or something. When people ask, I've been telling them the "teenage driver" thing. When I first got it was like learner's permit; then it's basically grown up a year for each actual year since then; which puts it around 17-18 now - still a kid, still does stupid stuff sometimes, but nice to have available.

  • @ProXcaliber
    @ProXcaliber หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    The issue for me with FSD isn't how good or bad it is (although I think it is decent) but how much it costs. Why is it that I am paying 12k for what is essentially a software license? And then to top it off, I can't keep said software for even 1 future Tesla purchase. That is what bothers me the most. If they are going to only allow you to have it for the car you currently own, then they need to reduce the price drastically to make it somewhat more digestible. Otherwise, if you are going to charge me 12k for it, then I better at least be able to use it for 2 car purchases at minimum (preferably a permanent purchase).

      It makes sense if you plan to sell the car and think it will be robotaxi-ready before then but, otherwise, no.
      From Tesla's perspective (Elon's, more like), they always think they're gonna crack robotaxi in the next year or two and that leads them to price it high. Because, once it is capable of that, it is worth hundreds of thousands over the lifetime of the car. So, from that perspective, even $12k is insanely cheap. But, of course, they've been wrong about the timeline.

    I bought the car 5 years ago. If FSD worked like this 5 years ago, I would've paid the full $5,000.00 (at that time)
    I definitely recommend trying FSD version 12.3.3. Game changer. Stay alert out there everyone!!

  • @raymondwong2521
    @raymondwong2521 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I tried the free 1 month FSD (Supervised) three times in the last two days. First time after supercharging, trying to get out of the parking lot to home. It struggled to gauge the space on the right side and how far from the curb. It hesitated to move forward and the steering wheel turned left and right a few times before it finally slowly creeped forward and turned to the right towards the exit of the supercharging lot. However, it over-steered and the right rear tire ran over the curb on the right. I hope the people in the other Teslas were not thinking I didn't know how to drive and pull out of the space. Second time, on the freeway yesterday, there were a serious of portholes. The FSD was unable to detect and avoid portholes like a human driver would. The last two portholes looked like 3 inches and 4 inches deep each, and I grabbed the steering wheel and disabled FSD right away. So much for Mr. Musk saying "you will be blown away" and "it drives better than a human" when my 18 years old daughter can drive the car out of any parking lot without even going over any curbs and she could already avoid portholes. Boy, if the FSD did make my Tesla go over the last two deep portholes, is it on Tesla to reimburse me any costs to fix damages caused by FSD making the car going over portholes? LOL.... it is far from being ready.

    I have not used it, but I fully agree with your remarks here, like why the heck would I want a car as good as a Tesla M3 to NOT drive it myself? That´s why, to this day, I still don´t think FSD is the gold mine some claim it to be. Perhaps if it was a cheap, boring car, then I could be completely pragmatic about it and just enjoy FSD for the practicality... but then again, unless it is completely autonomous, I really don´t see the point.
    The good news is that it seems to be gaining momentum and it can only get better and better.

    • @catbert7
      @catbert7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well Tesla obviously is not making it as a driver-assist feature. As the name suggests, full autonomy is absolutely the plan. Until it reaches that, the pricing will be some middle-ground between what it's capable of now and what Tesla expects it to be capable of in the near-future.

    12:39 says it all lol The self parking during the free trial has been impeccable but the self-driving has had its share of 'what is it doing?!' moments. Today, my car drove over a broken broomstick handle in the middle of the street while trying to ramp onto the highway. Sometimes (at night), on straight aways, the car will slow down and weave side to side across the lane lines like a shark for no discernible reason. Sometimes it gets confused trying to exit parking lots (especially at night) but the worst thing it did was turn too wide and too fast out of a parking lot and head straight towards a parked pick up truck. I grabbed the wheel and hit the brake because I honestly thought the car was about to T-bone the truck. That said, I have been using self driving for most of my travel and it works well enough most of the time. I'll be said when it's gone at the end of the month.

    OK. I'm gonna be the weird guy and say I'm not a fan. For some background... I'd never been in a Tesla/EV before my test drive in mid-February. I was sold on that test drive and bought an in-stock Model Y (it had the only thing I wanted, a white interior). I've spent a significant amount of money on needs (PPF/wrap, floor mats, etc.) and wants (extra storage, seat belt clips, etc.). When I first got the FSD Supervised, I took it out in the rain. I got numerous messages that it was limited in the rain (been pouring on the East Coast for several days). So that wasn't a fair assessment. One major complaint was that one intersection with right lane must turn right and left lane must turn left, it kept going into the wrong lane, although the nav feature showed me needing a left turn. On to attempt #2... Beautiful Sunday morning and I decided to take a trip to where the local Tesla owners group had a get together yesterday. It does wonderfully on the highway. I can't stress this enough. But every time we moved into a more town/city arrangement, I noticed some problems. First, when roads get paved around the area, they generally don't raise the storm grates, which creates a bit of a pothole effect. I live in the Philly suburbs. Also, the car seems to like to hug the white line on the right side instead of centering in the lane. Combine those two and you get a bouncy ride for the passenger. I hope future iterations recognize potholes/storm grates and move to the left to avoid them. Also, in the same town/city situation, it constantly wanted me to tug/squeeze the steering wheel. I would pull and notice would go away. Note: I was wearing sunglasses, so maybe it didn't recognize that I WAS focused on my surroundings? But if finally just turned itself off... in the middle of traffic. I think for highway driving it's fantastic, but I won't use it for city/suburban driving until some of this is better/fixed. And I DAMN well won't pay $12K for it. This was a money grab for those hoping to get that first REAL FULL self-driving... and we aren't quite yet at Level 3. Just my 2 cents.

How fast can this system take avoidance action? And would it typically swerve to avoid the person/animal or brake hard and risk a collision from the rear? Wonder if they have actually tested this on a track.

    11:24: Yeah, that was definitely a big blunder. It's good but as long as it still does stuff like this the people saying it's ready for robotaxi need to shut up.
    12:35: Yeah... this isn't even a camera placement issue, it's just the software for some reason thinks people creep all the way out into the road before turning. And it's not just when there's no traffic. On Chuck's channel, it has crept all the way into the near-lane even with traffic passing in the next lane. It has also left its butt hanging out in the median. Very bad.
    18:00: It is great, and incredible, and it makes driving WAY more interesting, and even more safe. It's just not robotaxi yet, and won't be for at least a while. Also note that it performs quite differently based on location. Some places it's way better and others it's way worse. Excited to see the progress rate of V12.

    I come from a safety systems background. I get it, There are Tesla/Musk cheerleaders/apologists that will accept the party line of "it is better than before and will get better". The problem is that a 1% extreme failure rate would be signifiant. I''m not saying it is that high but Tesla does a great job obscuring data. So...We should be paid for being system testers. All that being said, I don't begrudge folks that want to run with it and are prepared to make appropriate corrections.
    I agree with Jeremiah's opinions on every level. WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! Best suited for highway driving. It is a bit too unpredictable in complex driving conditions.

    The miles you drove will be added to the collective thx. Tesla has 1Billion miles of training data and will now have much more with free trials. The data will continue to accumulate, compute is not a factor now and it will improve as AI does to a point of perfection.
    Some form of his will probably be in the bots as well. I have FSD and while I am a good driver I can only see one thing at a time as apposed to 7 cameras, so this gives me some level of trust.

    You need to spend some time using each mode. Chill is definitely the most intelligent, and Assertive is hands down the most stupid at driving in 12.3.3. You're giving it a quick test, assuming it should be in a specific mode because of what v11.x or earlier did, and then assuming you understand it. You don't. It drives quite differently in Chill, Average and Assertive, and Assertive isn't useful unless you're in a place like Miami. That said... FSD v12.3.3 seems to drive like a combination of someone who has 1 year of driving experience, and someone who has 40+ years of experience, at the same time. Very strange.
