I ve also upgrade from G29 to CSL DD 8Nm with a Formula v2.5x
From my experience, it is absolutely worth. I was not confident in attacking kerbs when using G29, but after moving to CSL DD, I found it is much easier controlling the car especially exiting corner faster than before. Of course, CSL DD with a formula wheel is way expensive than G29, but this worth it. I would say CSL DD is a true entry level Direct Drive, while G29 is the best "toy" wheel, you cant compare a toy to a serious sim racing.

Year ago I swapped my old G29 (7 years total) for T300GT with T-LCM and I can tell it was good move. After 4 years from purchase G29 got its main wear feature - famous rattling that can make your neighbours and housemates mad. Imo T300's ffb is better, for example in ACC finally was able to feel more about the grip, pedals are astonishingly precise.
However G29 "leather" wheel was more nice to hold and grippy in comparision with plastic T300.

So would you agree its best to hold out for a thrustmaster Direct Drive wheel and just stick to my tgt for now ?? thanks for any advice on this !!

I had the weirdest issue with my brand new CSL DD 5nm, basically I picked it up from ups and took it home, set it up which is basically plug and play, used it quick for 10 mins then turned it off until I had more time the next day... The next day I turned it back on and the wheel rotation input wasn't working or the wheel would feel notchy or get locked and it was unable to turn. I tried every driver under the sun and spent a good 9 hours trying to fix whatever the issue was... my computer hadn't updated and no settings had been changed so I decided to take the whole unit apart which is easy enough, no damage to the motherboard, the only issue I could see was the power cable/s had been crimped slightly during manufacture so I took the motherboard off but in my frustration I disconnected it when it was still connected to power and all 3 motor power terminals sparked and I thought well that's probably killed it for good, so I turned it back on in hopes it would still work and it calibrated correctly and started working perfectly again, So no idea what was originally wrong with it or if it had been magnetically locked somehow and the shorting the motor freed it up but its been working fine since yesterday. Very strange issue but its still a massive upgrade from my TX 150.... driving in a MX-5 yesterday on Assetto and even with 5nm it felt like it was going to yank my arms off when the wheel spun which is a shock when you're so used to very low torque belt and gear stuff.

Just got mine a couple of days ago. Sadly, it hasn't magically turned me into an awesome driver :( On the plus side it adds hugely to immersion in the game. The only fly in the ointment so far is an oscillation that occurs when the wheel is centred (e.g. while driving on straights). I'm getting my head around the various tuning options but I haven't worked out how to make this go away yet. Any suggestions? I'm playing Assetto Corsa on a PC.

i am also concerned with the arm moment i've been new DD il wait a few years to see how the bearing face holds up i have a video explaining this as the unit i tested was nothing less than floppy which is why the overly clamped spacer lol ,,,,, arm moment,,,,,, Way to much distance between the bearing face and steering wheel face we will see over time if im right. but 8years at MIT was not wasted as well as working on some of our most advanced aircraft i can assure you i know what and why about loading a system in an uneven fashion, i stick with my CSL and DD1 until the new "cheaper" DD proves itself

you mention pedal upgrade for owners of G923, which pedals would be compatible?

  • @elbowsout6301
    @elbowsout6301 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Console compatibility can play a huge role in the purchase decision. The DD Pro will work on PS 5 and PC and with purchase of Xbox rim like the official WRC rim will also work on Xbox series X. This is a big deal for those of us who play on all platforms. I have the Simagic M10 and have to jump through hoops to get it working on the consoles and in some cases it's not perfect. I lose the "vibration" feature in WRC 9/10 on Xbox for example. I still have FFB though. On GT Sport I have a strange pulsing left and right on long straights, haven't figured out how to cure that yet. If I was buying new right now no doubt I would get the DD Pro, with WRC rim.

I'd add the caveat that if you don't have a rig yet, buy that first because it will give you the biggest instant lap time gain of anything you have. Pretty sure you have advised that before but any video that begins with should I upgrade my wheel needs that disclaimer in my opinion.

T300 RS was as good as the CSL but there is in my mind no comparison to the CSL-DD. I've tested the Podium at my friends house, I don't see a beg difference in performance. However if money is no object I'd definately get one, since it just provides a teeny tiny bit more fine feedback making me a little more consistant hence a bit faster. Is this a serious question? Even upgrading to a T300 especially with the rs gt pedal set is an improvement.
    Edit:
It's rather the question if one will be able to make his wife tolerate to spend 500€ to 1000€ for your hobby ^^

Just wanted to mention that the potentiometers on the G25 are way better than the garbage they put now in the G29,
The new ones are made of plastic, the shaft is prone to break, and they start to stutter early and too often,
The old ones are made of metal and the resistive track is of better quality and they last for many years.

I would say going from a T-GT II to a CSL DD is a BIG upgrade, nm aside the DD is direct drive. No belt-driven wheelbase stand a chance against a direct drive.

I currently use a DD1 podium. After using a CSL DD for a few months on my son's rig i would say it's a definite upgrade from a Logitech and a marginal upgrade to any belt drive, so marginal that I wouldn't recommend the CSL DD to anyone who currently uses a belt drive, you would be much better if waiting and saving for a higher end DD

@@chrisg.2962 we are talking about the CSL Elite at 7Nm Also it is very simple to do a test with your wheel using a torque wrench if you have one that's digital and it will show you exactly what your wheel is producing. Also the CSL torque is adjusted internally by using the wheel buttons so you can go as low as 1Nm and as high as 7Nm using the internal controls,,,,,,, i have a few vids on the new DD at my gamersgettingplayed at youtube my main concern is the arm moment between the face of the bearing inside the new DD box and the face of the steering wheel the distance is too long applying too much torque to the face of the bearing I wouldn't call it sloppy but it was definitely bending when I put a slight bit of force on a DD there's almost 7 inches between the face of the bearing in the front of the wheel the bearing face is actually an inch deeper than the face of the DD box the front plate comes off and you can see the bearing in the back I'm gonna wait a year or so to see how this works out they tried to save money and they made a cheaper unit for successful at that but I would buy an original DD one if I was going to go with a direct drive unit from a logitec or thrustmaster which is now actually Gillimount thrustmaster sold out almost 3 years ago.

not the wheel, the pedals need upgrade. g29 has enough torque. more torque in DD to set it later at 30% to not break the hand is the extra money your are paying for. it's a scam.

    • @sternfaust

Break the Hand? If youre properly holding onto the handels there is nearly no way to break your wrist. Even with the boost kit 8nm are managable.
