I have the gold card, it’s definitely the better card for every day purchases. Especially if you eat out a lot. The travel benefits from the platinum card really aren’t worth it in my opinion.

My only problem with the gold card is that Walmart and target does not qualify as a supermarket. Only the neighborhood ones do. I have to use the blue business plus at a Walmart supercenter.

I have had the Platinum AMEX for 35 years and once in London before 2000 we had to move hotels (just flew in, rooms were really bad) and at 8AM London time I called Plat AMEX and asked them to change my hotel and they did, we got a fantastic room upgrades and a free night (family was staying a week). They also got us dinner reservations and philaharmonic tickets during Christmas (almost impossible) Never looked back. Loyal customer forever.

So fun fact, my aunt actually has the American Express Black. Me and my family were going to take her out to dinner to a very popular steakhouse there. We did not know anything about her financial or anything since we haven't seen for more than 10-15 years. When we walked in they messed up the reservations and they said nope. Gotta wait next month for the next reservation opening. My mom was so pissed because she wanted to do this for my aunt. My aunt said she needs to take a step outside to make a phone call which I assume is American Express. Then about 5-10 min later there was a opening reservation all off a sudden in a private room under my aunts name. My mom and dad were shocked of wtf just happened while she was showing off her Amex Black in front of the waiter to identify herself. She was treated like royalty even the manager came by to say sorry about the reservations mess up. But yea, when I asked what she did she pretty much own a shipping yard and contracts for importing and exporting goods to Asia. It was the most interesting event.
