As someone who grew up in Michigan, I can recommend that you take the ferry boat over to Mackinac Island, where you can tour Fort Mackinac, visit the Grand Hotel, and enjoy some handmade fudge from one of the many candy shops that populate the island.
Tip: Get a hitch lock. When you leave the trailer without a hitch lock, anyone who has a truck with a hitch can hook up to that trailer and its gone. I have been RVing in a 26' trailer for over 20 years and you will not regret spending $50.00 on a nice hitch lock.
Even with a 300 dollar lock they can still drive off with the camper. All they do is hook up the safty chains let the jack as far down as it will go and take off....
I watched the Travel Bean's video on their visit to Sleeping Bear, and now yours! Both very entertaining. Glad you guys are aiming to hook up and looking forward to seeing that.

This is a good truck, the water was most likely the major culprit and the low fuel with air just made it apparent. You dont have to keep half a tank all the time, should be fine with a quarter tank. That truck will run for a very long time just needs good regular maintenance and make sure whoever you have work on it specializes in diesels. You may want to look at running synthetic oil too. We did just to help with wear and tear. We also use OEM filters and such. We tow with ours too.
I think you guys are doing a great job! All of us old timers have gone through the exact same kinds of difficulties. FYI. My Dad had a number of diesel trucks. He found that some of these country gas stations had very dirty diesel (water mostly). He added some in-line fuel filters made for filtering out water. The water collects in a see through container in the engine compartment. Occasionally you twist a valve and drain the water. No more truck stopping in the middle of no where. Very simple to do!

@@Theendlessadventure Absolutely. Bring on Clementine, Ruby, Vinnie and anyone else that is added to the gang. I am here for it. 💯 Also, props to Allison for the way she handled that snake situation. I absolutely would not have handled it that gracefully. This truck you'll got is great. There are 8 thing besides water that a long journey with a diesel shouldn't be without. 1. Booster box 2. WD-40 3. Air Compressor 4. 1-gallon extra oil 5. 1/2-gallon extra brake fluid 6. 1-qt power stering fluid 7. Diesel fuel additive is 2 types Cetane booster and Anti-Gel
The Booster that I carry is a 1,200 CA jumper box about the size of 2 cell phones stacked! WD-40 is Best Starter Fluid for any Diesel! These old Diesels usually leak and if the dip stick reads a qt. low its usually 2!
About the Diesel Fuel additives: Cetane helps fuel burn Easier and cleaner. The USA distributed diesel fuel has among the lowest in the world (so far as my research many moons ago.) I only buy Motorcraft Cetane Booster for my old Super Duty! When price shopping it's been the best value per volume that I could find and it's staying with the home company! Cleaner burn/Better Mileage! Anti-Gel is helpful year round. This is because of water dispersants. Eack brand has thier own ingredients blend of concoctions to do the same thing. I use Howes mostly.
Stopped to help a semi truck gravel hauler in Arizona. He had a quarter tank for fuel before starting up an 8% grade. He had the same problem as y'all. You are correct: never let a diesel go below 1/2 tank in hilly country or below 3/8 tank before filling. Recommend you carry a spare 10 gallons of diesel in case you get low and need to add some to get to the next fill up. That's what we do.
My husband and I have decided that Eric has GOT to stop saying “everything is gonna be fine” or “no problems from here on out”, etc. It’s jinxing y’all. LOL
Fun fact you might already know… that center line on the hood it’s not just for style it has a purpose it shows you where your passenger tire is and the other line in front of the driver shows you where the driver tire is traveling might help ya on narrow roads and kinda with the trailer when you get used to where it tracks behind the truck
Something worth mentioning regarding your truck. I don't know what years were affected, but some of the diesel 7.3 trucks had a plastic pickup tube that would break off near the bottom of the tank and the symptoms would be exactly as what happened to you, minus the water, obviously. Typically these trucks you could not run under a quarter of a tank when they got older, it wasn't a design flaw with the size of the tank, it was the plastic pickup tube broke off.
Vin Diesel did the voice of the Giant for the Iron Giant movie. "You stay I go" Change your fuel filter often. You should look for a real pasty shop and try one, they are awesome and filling. Escanaba used to have one of the best shops for pastys, it was an house turned into a little restaurant. Any vehicle can breakdown, if the vehicle had not been driven a lot and you are now driving it a lot things will pop up. I am not a big ford fan but the truck should be good you will have some things that have aged is all. Stay safe and healthy.
I feel badly for you guys….have you considered “Endless Expenditures.” :) I will say your positive attitudes are infectious. Take care and good luck….I’m hooked and can’t wait for the next video.
I love your truck! What a great opportunity to travel the country in a vintage Ford. For the sake of all the truckers and professional drivers watching, you are driving a diesel now, not a gasoline engine. When you say you ran short on gas we instantly assume you weren't able to fart, because you are driving a diesel, and there is no gas in your truck. Try to get used to saying FUEL, especially if you ever have anyone else fuel your truck, they won't fill it with gas. Your truck and trailer is a truly magnificent-looking rig. It is really great to see good folks towing a trailer that is less than the GVWR of their truck. I would totally drive that baby across the country!
You guys are fun to watch because you're real. Remember, your truck uses diesel fuel, not gas. Change your engine oil and your fuel filters regularly and your truck will serve you well. Buy a Fort Knox hitch lock for your trailer. It's one of the best.
Man alive! I'm so glad you were able to get a mechanic and that so many honorary Adventurers stopped by to help! My husband mentioned that a newer vehicle wouldn't have been able to be fixed on the road like that so HA! Older trucks for the win. Have fun in the UP! My brother-in-law's family has a cabin they rent right on a lake in the North Woods of Wisconsin - will message you details (it may not be on your route but sending it anyway). It's about 30 minutes south of the Michigan border. Drive safe!
In my experience, if you ever run a 7.3L diesel out of fuel/air in the line, just take the lid off the fuel bowl and cycle the key until it fills up, put the cap back on and it should start up no problem😅 coming from a diesel technician
We haven't bought a new car since 1988 and we love the older ones. That said we live just 2 miles from our mechanic and I am a former outboard motor mechanic who put himself through school working at a marina. It's all about the diagnostics. Anyone who says newer would be better hasn't experienced an ECU failing or simply had to replace one of those new LED or HID assemblies. It costs north of $700 for just the labor to replace one on some GM cars. I believe strongly in YTT, yesterday's technology today ! Al from Loni & Al 😍❗
If you ran out of fuel at 1/4 tank, your fuel tank pickup foot most likely broke off. Your water in fuel light would have most likely come on if there was enough water in the fuel. If you lift the bed up about a foot on the drivers side, you can easily pull the 2 sending units and replace the pickup feet on the sending units. It's easier than dropping both tanks.
This is the answer you're looking for (old rubber foot becomes brittle and snaps off pickup tube). Rec keeping tank above 1/3 until complied with. Also, a fuel psi gauge is a good idea for older powerstrokes.
Well I just LOVE your truck and as a mechanic for 30 yrs the Power Stroke 7.3 engine is a very strong engine! Just keep the fuel filters changed regularly and you’ll be fine since you are going across the U.S. Looks like it was well maintained so I wouldn’t be afraid to drive it ANYWHERE!
Never stop buying vintage. It just takes time to learn your vehicle. Not "dumb" just inexperienced. The more you learn how to do yourself the easier it'll get. My wife and I drove a 1982 Fiat spider from Iowa to Glacier National Park and back then to Panama City Florida in the same summer. Never had a problem, but was prepared for anything. Keep on keepin' on!
The dunes at our NC beach have eroded incredibly over the past 40 years. One of the benefits/results of getting older.🤣 It’s amazing to think of changes that happen over longer periods of time. Cooler weather would be nice. Thanks for bringing us along! Jane in SC ❤️🙏🏻
OMGosh...I'm sooo Sorry for All your Break downs!!!!! You need Prayers!!! You can look at it in a Positive way...all your Problems are teaching you Problem Solving in for the future!!! Best of Luck on your Journeys!
Love your resilience in dealing with the multiple vehicle mishaps! You may want to get a hitch lock to prevent the theft of the trailer while you’re off exploring..
This is my first comment, but we have been watching for many months now. You two are such a pleasure and so much fun to watch! Positive attitude, happy and funny no matter the situation. Looking forward to your next post! 😃
Actually it is a big deal. You are so lucky that mechanic came out and fixed that for you right away. Anywhere else, it would of had to be towed and you would of been held up for days. That was true luck!
I'm glad you got everything worked out with the truck I was thinking here we go again. That was really nice of the 2 subscribers that stopped and the mechanic that helped you out.
If the battery keeps running low then you might want to get your glow plugs checked. Perhaps also get some fuel additive for diesel vehicles to add to the fuel to remove any carbon build-up
So sorry you guys got stuck again. But you had some great luck with the mechanic and viewers! I would have stopped as well had I lived in Michigan, but the viewers are so nice! Hope you guys get to meet up with the Beans very soon!
Take care you guys. Diesel engines check your fuel filter often specially when you feel it's not picking up very well and it lessens the power of the engine.
Absolutely love your videos. I swear I just watched the beans video and they were in the same dunes. Old vehicles are the best they just need a little more TLC. Glade you guys are back up and going.
So glad you were able to get your truck fixed and working well!! 😊 Welcome to Michigan, you guys will LOVE it here! I've lived here my entire life and it's such a beautiful state especially up north. Enjoy your time here. 🥰
Welcome to my home state! Michigan is a beautiful state with many natural wonders….. I hope you have a chance to come check out Pure Michigan in all it’s autumn glory
Always 1/2 a tank, live and learn! You all are young and are funny! We all did this kind of stuff. I have to say it, FORD= Fix or Repair Daily! 🤣🤣 God’s got ya!🙏
First rule of RV towing. Never let your tanks get below 1/4 . In old trucks they may have "sluge" that can be pulled into the fuel system. This is a major repair on a diesel truck. You were lucky.
Alot of people install a fuel sump kit on these older trucks to combat this issue so you don't gotta worry about parking on a incline or driving a steep hill will my truck make it or start if shut off, it draws fuel from the bottom bottom of the tank an does wonders for this issue giving you use on of almost all of the fuel tank vs only 3/4, it's not expensive just find someone you know or a subscriber that can help install it because a shop may take you for 3x the kit price in labor. Kits run around 120$-180$ Just look up FASS fuel sump kit for a good starter place
If you are going to camp a few times a year, vintage is a great option, if you’re going to travel across America, then vintage is NOT for you, you can believe us, or you can see the reality of your situation from the side of the road. “This isn’t even that old” it’s more than 30 years old, it’s old. I love your channel, I hate to be critical, but this has become adamantly obvious to everyone but you guys, sorry and good luck.
Sorry to say this but agree with Rod here, and it’s no hate and I also wish you well and luck but you are riding a lot of bad luck here with poor equipment. It’s doing you both a disservice as creators.
What do you think about travel Beans a lot of money to spend and no mouse proofing? Love your opinion. If not now then later when u have same problem. Love U Both💕💗💕💗💕💗
I am glad your mechanical problem was simple to fix. I love Ford trucks. I think you made a wise decision. I have a gasoline powered truck. I had under a quarter of a tank and parked it on an incline. The next day it wouldn't start. The gas had actually gone to the other end of the tank and the sending unit couldn't pick it up. I had to put 5 gallons in it before it would start. So don't worry. You guys are not the first to suffer this problem. Safe travels 🙂
Another Michigan viewer here! Love that my people are taking good care of you! That rig is sweet and has loads of life to give your dreams. It’ll take a learning curve and some breaking in so just hang in there! I live just below the dunes, glad to see they made the cut. Keep on truckin’
There should be baffles inside the tank to prevent the fuel sloshing round too much. Theoretically, you should be able to drive on any terrain or gradient, and not have such a problem. Your fuel tank would be way lower than half full when your fuel warning light comes on, which is when you would normally fill up. If there was water in the tank, then that may have caused you to break down.
Their F250 has two fuel tanks. The RV weight pushes the rear of the truck down at an angle a few degrees. If they are using the rear tank and it gets to a 1/4 tank the pump may suck up air instead of fuel. They should use the rear/aft tank first then switch to the fwd/front tank, that would avoid any possible fuel pump cavitation in the rear tank.
The Zapp family has been traveling the world in a 1928 Graham-Paige Model 612 for over 20 years, now. They started out as a couple, and now have 4 kids... This is peanuts compared to what they've been through, and they wouldn't change a thing. Trust me, years from now you'll look back and be proud of your resilience and strength, probably remembering them more than which park/beach/state you visited! Carry on...! 👍👍👍
One thing I noticed is you stopped making videos about traveling and started making videos about vehicles. Remodeling vehicles, buying vehicles, tours of vehicles, vehicle camping spots, problems with vehicles... We miss you traveling!
That’s a sweet truck, something else that may have happened is that it may have picked up sediment or debris from the bottom of the tank, I’ve had that happen to a lot of vehicles both gas and diesel that had metal fuel tanks, in particular a firebird l once owned dragged so much detritus up from the bottom of the tank it caused trouble all way up the lines into the carburettor, had to clean out the whole lot. Hang in there guys, these things are sent to try us God bless you from the north west of England Jay 🙏🏻
Learn where your water blead off valve is in front on top its a yellow valve I had a Ford exactly like yours AND LOVED IT I MISS IT TERRIBLY anyway learn where that valve is so you can blead the water yourself periodically and keep BOTH tanks full 😊 I'm jealous of your beautiful truck you can keep the camper lol did I mention I love thoes trucks keep the dirty side down amd drive safe
I love your truck. My father had ford trucks including a super cab my whole life. So your truck makes me think of my wonderful Dad and I thank you for that.
Common problem with these trucks is having to open the valve below the fuel filter and drain out any water in the fuel. Then, prime the filter bowl ten times, each time until the pump turns off.
YES! I drive a diesel truck/RAM and we have this same valve. One of the first things we did was learn how to drain the water out through that valve. Also the Diesel Kleen fuel additive. We keep a bottle of it in the truck at all times and every time we fill up, we add a bottle. The reason Diesel's have problems with water in the fuel is because the engines produce water when hot fuel from the injectors is returned to the fuel tank; this produces water from condensation, which settles under the fuel. We bought our truck to pull a cattle trailer and a flat bed to help us out on the farm and we baby it more than we do anything else. It's irritating.
Wow, it's the old if it wasn't for bad luck we would have no luck at all. That being said remember that which does not kill us makes is stronger. Viewers offering aid must be incredibly validating as we all really care and wish you well on your endless adventure.
Oh, man! I can't believe something broke again. That Laura wasn't me, but I would absolutely stop and see if I could help if I ever ran across you two on the side of the road. I'm so glad someone did! And thank goodness for that mechanic. The lake and dunes looked amazing. Looking forward to seeing what's next!

A lot of tourists mistake Sleeping bear dunes being in Traverse City. However they are actually a span from Empire to Glen Arbor. I live in Suttons Bay. Definitely a great place to live! Surrounded by Dunes, Trails, Woods, Water I love everything about it. My family are also Cherry farmers which is the big thing here in Lower Northern Michigan. Safe travels for you, I hope you get to see the Taquamenon Falls up north-that is a must see!
Welcome to Michigan! The first time i was at Sleeping Bear Dunes I was shocked at how high and steep they were! You have to be there to fully appreciate that
I wouldn't blame the age of the vehicle or user error, these things happen and you now know to not let the fuel tank get below half full. I just watched Alex and Emma's video and they are going from point A-B as fast as possible because they have a place to stay booked. The Endless Beans trip will happen eventually 😁
Yes, I think you're cursed. My wife and I follow three other TH-cam travelers, those are Kara and Nate, Flying the Nest and Danger and Stacey. All three did the van/RV thing during Covid and all three are now traveling internationally. We'd love to see you two traveling the world again.
Never! 😝 What fun is life if you don't have a breakdown every now and then? But it wasn't really the age of the truck, it was mostly our inexperience with diesels.
Please please put a security cage on your catalytic converter. You are going everywhere in the US and some places are notorious for those thefts. Get it done before you end up stranded for a long time. Love you guys

Mechanical pump.....
It's very nice to see that you have really wonderful people watching your videos.
These lessons are learned the hard way, but we all benefit.
Awesome video
Thanks for showing the bad along with the good. That's why I really enjoy this channel. Love you both.
I love that you are in Michigan!!! I'm a Michigander!!! So fun that you keep running into viewers. 💕
You guys are due some good luck! I have faith the rest of your travels will be great!!🤞💖
Thank you for being delightful to watch.
Welcome to Michigan! You will love the Upper Peninsula (once you get there). It is just beautiful up there.
It's easier than dropping both tanks.
endless, read the above post and act on it.
We have a 2022 motorhome, and broke down on a busy highway. Tow truck didn't get there till almost midnight.
Glad you were still able to make it to our little piece of paradise at the Dunes!
You can't beat the Traverse City area in the Summer! 😎
Safe Travels!
It’s so cool to me to watch you guys explore where I grew up. Also my husband says you should think about naming your truck Magnus!
I'm glad you got everything worked out with the truck I was thinking here we go again. That was really nice of the 2 subscribers that stopped and the mechanic that helped you out.
If the battery keeps running low then you might want to get your glow plugs checked.
Perhaps also get some fuel additive for diesel vehicles to add to the fuel to remove any carbon build-up
Endless, read the above post or need more repairs!
I am so glad the truck was able to be fixed. DO NOT give up! We all learn something every day! You are doing great and so much fun to watch!
The truck is only 24 years old, what can go wrong?

I mean older vehicles are going to need small things regardless but, newer diesels are a total headache and break just as often if not more.
First rule of RV towing. Never let your tanks get below 1/4 . In old trucks they may have "sluge" that can be pulled into the fuel system. This is a major repair on a diesel truck. You were lucky.
DO NOT BUY NEW!! What fun is that? Y'all got this! And thank you for helping to inspire folks to travel and camp and love vintage things.
Kits run around 120$-180$
Just look up FASS fuel sump kit for a good starter place
30 years aint that old lmao
What do you think about travel Beans a lot of money to spend and no mouse proofing? Love your opinion. If not now then later when u have same problem. Love U Both💕💗💕💗💕💗
I agree with Rod.
@@2crayz it’s older than them probably. Maybe they’re in denial that they’re getting older lol
I had a 7.3 my problem with the fuel was the fuel “pickup foot” fell off causing it to run out of fuel early. Might be the issue
Viewer from Michigan and I am loving that you and the Beans are seeing Michigan
Those engines will run a long time, but require specific maintenance, and being old, some things will be worn out. But, the engine won't likely blow
Encouraging words Noah! Have a great day.
@@cliffordkinnear9705 There you go 👍
The Zapp family has been traveling the world in a 1928 Graham-Paige Model 612 for over 20 years, now.
You guys were so lucky to find a mechanic at that time of day! Just so you know I like your current setup. Good luck on the rest of your journey!
Hang in there guys, these things are sent to try us
God bless you from the north west of England
Jay 🙏🏻
Learn where your water blead off valve is in front on top its a yellow valve I had a Ford exactly like yours AND LOVED IT I MISS IT TERRIBLY anyway learn where that valve is so you can blead the water yourself periodically and keep BOTH tanks full 😊 I'm jealous of your beautiful truck you can keep the camper lol did I mention I love thoes trucks keep the dirty side down amd drive safe
So happy all is well! Stay positive, ignore negative people and have fun!
I can hardly bear to watch I feel so bad for you guys. Such kind , genuine people. So sorry for your run of bad luck. Hang in there!
Glad your always seem so upbeat when you break down a lot of people would be moaning thanks for sharing enjoying your videos
My rule is, when upgrading always get better quality and more efficient parts.

Can't wait to see your next adventure, safe travels to you both! Vinnie is a great name for your truck.
Cadillac is my hometown. I wish you guys were able to visit under better circumstances, but I'm glad you found good hospitality.
You guys reinforce my conviction of never owning a vehicle, EVER. Hope you love my home State of Michigan y'all
Haha, we can see that. 🤣 They're a lot of fun though...when they work! So far we're absolutely loving Michigan!!
@@Theendlessadventure According to the map you showed, you came right through my town of Kalkaska to get over to 75 to head to the Bridge. Matter of fact, you would've had to pass my house! Dang! Would've hosted the pair of you for a meal. Enjoy the rest of your time in our beautiful state!
Harvest just finished in August now its Orchard cleanup time! My husband and I are traveling to South Carolina, Georgia in 2 weeks! We are super excited, have never traveled more than 8-9 hrs away. Safe travels for you, I hope you get to see the Taquamenon Falls up north-that is a must see!
It being a diesel I'd keep a spare fuel filter in the truck at all times, if it feels like you're losing horsepower that is probably the culprit.
Endless, read the above post and act on it.
SO LUCKY that someone was able to come out! lifesaver!! hopefully smooth sailing from here!
Yes, I think you're cursed. My wife and I follow three other TH-cam travelers, those are Kara and Nate, Flying the Nest and Danger and Stacey. All three did the van/RV thing during Covid and all three are now traveling internationally. We'd love to see you two traveling the world again.
OBS 7.3!!❤❤❤ never sell it!! What a beauty!! They don’t call them “the million mile motor” for nothing.
Stop buying vintage 5h17…
I think that might have something to do with it.
Facts
A monkey would of learnt by now. Thick as mince 😆
Never! 😝 What fun is life if you don't have a breakdown every now and then? But it wasn't really the age of the truck, it was mostly our inexperience with diesels.
I love Endless Adventures but true!
I love that yall are now literally living my dream! Don't ditch the OBS no matter what. Stay safe
Please please put a security cage on your catalytic converter. You are going everywhere in the US and some places are notorious for those thefts. Get it done before you end up stranded for a long time. Love you guys
Catalytic converter on a 7.3? Hahaha
This truck doesn't have a catalytic converter, so no worries there 👍
Lol
@@Theendlessadventure great just know they are on a lot of vehicles. Glad all the car needs got a laugh. Now if they would like me to quiz them on world geography and history maybe I can have a chuckle 🤭
