@Rob Kuster we have plenty of water and a creek that runs right past our cabin. There was a we’ll just outside the cabin at one point right on the other side of the spot we’re trying to drive one. Just thought that having it inside the cabin would be great! We did extensive research on the property before purchasing. Although I would never tell anyone that buying land sight unseen is a good idea. We got lucky.
It is so important for people to hear all of the things that go with a self reliant lifestyle. If anybody would say to me "I was living the lifestyle" I would correct them and say no I am working the lifestyle. It has been 30 years and we are still working the life style. It is well worth it but it is not easy. Thanks for sharing this.
I said the same thing to my son. Watching this video really opened my eyes to the reality of this lifestyle, which is not a bad thing at all, just put things into perspective.

I appreciate realistic videos like this very much. 🥰 So many people looking for the "easy" life, and think off-grid will be "easier"... it's not! It can actually be much, much harder than the job you leave behind. And although you can "afford" to lose a week of work from a financial standpoint, in other ways you can't afford to be sick at all (who is going to chop the wood or haul the water while you're bed-ridden?) But you're working for yourself, not someone else, so all the labor and rewards from it can be MUCH more satisfying. You really can't beat the feeling of self-reliance, but make no mistake... self-reliance is hard work!! 😊

Very good video, showing that the reality of homesteading or living off-grid is NOT glamorous. In many ways, you're making compromises so that you can live a different lifestyle, often working your butt off to do for yourself, instead of working to make money so you can pay someone else to do those things. I think there can be a different kind of compromise, where you're still a part of society, but not engulfed by it. To be truly off-grid, and thrive while doing so, takes a different level of commitment and perspective than most people have today. I know I'm not cut out for it, but aspects of it are very enticing and interesting.
When I was living in Carrollton, Michigan when growing up my father worked for General Motors and so did my grandfather, and uncle. It was nice living there, but it did get real cold during the Winters, but nice during the warm months. It took getting back in Arkansas to have the opportunity to get into the woods (Country living) and I am back here now and retired from both the Air Force Reserves and the state of Arkansas and loving living the country life.
People who do this off grid living thing need to be told the truth. I'm so glad see this video. I'm tired of trying to rescue people who aren't accustomed to mountain living. I was blessed to have experience living off grid. It's even been hard for me. It's worth the work, but not an easy life.

This is a beautiful idea. I suggest you search your hacks on TH-cam to get some idea making easier ways for water or temporary ways for maintaining . A relative once used a 1500 gal. It's carry drinking water and tank was for other things. It was mostly underground set. After time she finally got regular service. She used treatment for a couple days when needed. Then that same water tank can keep animal care easier when done with home use.

Good to see folks demonstrating the real difficulties (understatement) of this life style; particularly since the vast majority of “off grid living” videos paint a somewhat rosie and one sided view. City life, country life, on grid, off grid; the bottom line is that there ain’t no free lunch.

Very cool! I've been running off of rainwater for a few yrs and it's been much easier and more plentiful than I originally thought. Where I live freezing is only an issue a few months out of the yr and the ground is very rocky. Wells tend to be expensive to dig and not great quality unless you wanna spend big bucks. Loved the reality about the reality of living off grid and I know it just touched the surface. Great video. Cool property and life for the children growing up in that environment.
My dad's cabin at the lake is complete off grid. Had a compost toilet, propane for fridge, stove, hot water tank, lights, had a tube with a filter attached that went into the lake. There was a spring pump down the road, battery for the radio and a wood stove. So we had a taste of if it from spring till fall. It wasn't winterized for winter though
@@9252LIFE it was heaven. If I didn't need medical stuff looked after and all I'd find a nice piece of land here were I live in Manitoba Canada build a nice simple cabin for me and my son similar like my dad's than I'd be happy

it’s exactly like they said . don’t focus on the negative. I love it because the smallest changes seem like HUGE leaps , it’s wonderful! And water , YES !! It’s been almost 5 years for me . I married my husband, and moved to his off grid property..... talk about a shock 😂 But I love it . we have two little ones with another on the way - live in Ontario Canada.
Water,,, Maybe build or buy a large tank, Use the water shed off the roof to fill the tank,,, Could also build a pond since they have clay, Use that for summer showers,
I use "off grid" and "homesteader" in the same sentence! Hahaha! Mid-Michigan has been fun and we have been struggling for the last three years getting our homestead going. But are doing well enough. You guys are living the dream for sure! Keep up the good work!
Spent last couple of nights watching the water pumps in case we flooded...might have been depressing but We slept in shifts, made snax and watched TH-cam videos with the dogs for company. Any disaster can be an adventure.
Great vid Brooke it was nice to hear from someone who's doing it "in the moment" I'm planning to disconnect myself, my electricty, and my water from the grid. Get a couple of solar panels and put up a water catchment system, maybe dig a well later on down the line. I'll keep hooked up till all my systems are in place. Then I'll only have the property tax to contend with and everyone's food. Much love from So.Cal.💟
when going off grid #1 thing i tell EVERY BODY when looking for land is, WATER IS LIFE..... find land with a running stream. water coming up out of the ground stream. no stock tank and no seasonal creek. water is life
It is so nice that the girls have taken so well to that lifestyle. Notice that they actually get outside and do stuff(outside and happy) building forts and things. I have a couple friends who are living similar lifestyles and their children are some of the most well adjusted, happy and respectful kids I know. Good for all of them being willing to give this lifestyle a try. Hope they all continue to develop more knowledge and skills and to prosper as the years go by.
Great video! Nice of you Brooke to share other people’s journey! Best of luck to the family-they are positive-I think they’ll make it😊👍 Rooting for all of you!
Three years off grid and yes running water is the biggest issue. I haul from a natural spring a few miles up the road. Best water ever though. As much as it sucks lugging 45 lbs 6 gallon water tanks it's worth it. Yes, it takes years to get set up to live off grid. Took a whole summer just clearing the land enough to get building. It all doesn't get built all at once. It's a process for sure. It's awesome though. My land surprised me this spring with Morel, Mica Cap, and Pheasant Tail mushrooms!!
Good stuff. Going to go over and subscribe to them. Good down to earth people. It is not really about sacrificing. It is about trading one problem like traffic for another like goats are out.

Old Bushy! 😂
Hi Brooke good to see your safe stay Bless
Welcome to Michigan! I live in the lower central part, in the country.
We were born and raised in Fremont Michigan
What a great video and a beautiful family. Good luck to each and every one of you.
Thank you! Very much appreciated!
Sounds like home!
@@9252LIFE it was heaven. If I didn't need medical stuff looked after and all I'd find a nice piece of land here were I live in Manitoba Canada build a nice simple cabin for me and my son similar like my dad's than I'd be happy
@@alidahall8726 Hello fellow Manitoban!
@@Em-mr6wu hi
Happy to see you out there again. Glad you finally shared that samore with me. that tasted good. I never really liked mushrooms but it didn't taste too bad with steak. Here's to the girl in Woods. By the way where is Maisy🐔😎🌻
What a beautiful family, and...an informative, fun video! Best of luck to them!! 👍
Thank you!
it’s exactly like they said . don’t focus on the negative.
5 years ! Awesome! Has it been easy for you?
so cool!
God Bless the couple with the lovely daughters. They seemed to be a beautiful family. I hope they get the well!
Thank you! Getting ready to try at the well again soon!
Interesting to hear their input on living the off grid life. They really seem to love it and the four girls too! Wish we could've seen the inside.
Thanks for the subscription tip. Those guys seem like naturals for the 47th parallel.
Thanks!
Great video Great seeing & hearing other people living that way Awesome
Are you living off grid?
Thanks 👍
Sure I'll Look . Happy Fun Thank You !
very nice and motivational! we are a couple building a brick tiny house
in the european mountains, thank you for the motivation!!!
I grew up way up in the mountains of Colorado we had water and electricity but our phone was on a party line. Late 70's that was
Water,,, Maybe build or buy a large tank, Use the water shed off the roof to fill the tank,,, Could also build a pond since they have clay, Use that for summer showers,
I use "off grid" and "homesteader" in the same sentence! Hahaha! Mid-Michigan has been fun and we have been struggling for the last three years getting our homestead going. But are doing well enough. You guys are living the dream for sure! Keep up the good work!
I'm about ready to settle down, after being on the move for six years. Some good advice in here about having the right setup. Good luck to all of you.
Thank you!
I so glad that family have you and Dave to teach them😊
we can all learn!
Yes we can 😁
I’m glad too!!
Spent last couple of nights watching the water pumps in case we flooded...might have been depressing but We slept in shifts, made snax and watched TH-cam videos with the dogs for company. Any disaster can be an adventure.
I like the way you think!
Much love from So.Cal.💟
good luck!
Thanks Brooke I'm doing what I can to get happy an be outdoors more, thanks to your inspiration sweetie.
Such a lovely family. I wish you guys the best. 🐐🐶🐐🐶
Thank you! We wish you the best as well! Hope you’re having a great week so far!
Honest , endearing , and wholesome. Thank You !
when going off grid #1 thing i tell EVERY BODY when looking for land is, WATER IS LIFE..... find land with a running stream. water coming up out of the ground stream. no stock tank and no seasonal creek. water is life
Yes it is!
Now there's a girl that KNOWS how to roast a marshmallow!
A marshmallow's never done till you have to blow it out.
lol
Precious family!! I hope they enjoy their new way of life. The children love, obviously. That alone would be worth it. ♥️❣️🌹🌸♥️🌹🌸♥️
❤️
We CANNOT wait to make the move to the UP! Looking at land right now! Nice to meet this awesome family! Cheers C&J
Hope they all continue to develop more knowledge and skills and to prosper as the years go by.
yesss hope so!
Oh these girls learn more and more everyday out here. A lot less distractions out here.
Hi Brooke. Amazing video, love the goats, chickens and the family. Awesome neighbours.
Thanks so much!
Great video!
Nice of you Brooke to share other people’s journey! Best of luck to the family-they are positive-I think they’ll make it😊👍
Rooting for all of you!
It's Girl(s) in the Woods!!! New sub here. Also a fellow Michigander. I have been binging your channel for days now! Love your positive spirit.
Awesome! Thank you!
Good luck to this family. I am sure they will do just fine. They have a large learning curve but they have the right attitude.
Good stuff.
Going to go over and subscribe to them. Good down to earth people.
It is not really about sacrificing. It is about trading one problem like traffic for another like goats are out.
Enjoyed watching this video! All the animals are So Awesome.♥️
The animals definitely keep it interesting out here! 😆
