In fact, many of the soldiers who participated in Christmas truce had to be repositioned because they didn't want to kill their new friends. That is why the generals made sure the truce doesn't happen again. Beautiful song, next I recommend No Bullets Fly (animated story video) and En Livstid I Krig (live in Gothenburg). Oh, as others already said, turning down the volume on our Goddess Floor is a big no-no 😁Other than that great reaction, hope for more 😀
I saw a story where two people were standing in a line at a coffee shop and one had a Sabaton shirt. They got to talking re this song and it turns out their grandparents exchanged photos, which had been passed down, and the kids in the coffee shop had each others grandfathers photo
I just saw live like 3 weeks ago and Christmas Truce was on the setlist, it was like one of two or 3 songs where the audience became pretty quiet /for a metal audience, and you see a lot of emotions in everyone's eyes. With a mainly German audience, it definitely hit the feels. We also got Christmas-colored confetti which was a lot of fun tho :)
You mentioned how Sabaton's concept for songs were military history. One time during an interview they were asked why they choose this. They said "why make up our own songs when there's already badass stories throughout history?"
I saw Sabaton live with my brother last month and they played this as their closing song... There was not a dry eye in the building. Every time I listen to this track, it never fails to get a tear. As with a lot of Sabatons music, it just hits different!
Love the reaction. And of course love Sabaton. Saw them live in 2006 when they were touring as the openign act with Lordi, Finnish metal/heavy hard rock I guess, won the Eurovision song contest. And ever since, I've been a fan. They made a whole album of a specific time when Sweden was a Great Power in Europe. But what makes this more epic than just being songs about my country's history is that they don't glorify it. They don't make the Swedes out to be great heroes or always right. In fact, they are brutally honest in their songs, about war crimes commited even by the Caroleans, the swedish elite soldiers, that was at that time during the 1700 one of if not the greatest soldiers. Of course, Sweden never had many people to begin with, but I'd say if you can have 20.000 men and still win against an army of 90.000, you've gotta be both smart and really good. So how about checking out one of their Carolus Rex songs. One of my favorites is "Gott Mit Uns", where you get the (at that time of Sabaton) the guitarrists sing live, but in the studio I think at least the first verse is sang by the music producer. Awesome song, and portrays the badass Caroleans mindset. P.S. There is a swedish and english version. Both are awesome. Some swedish songs are different than english versions lyric wise, so both songs are good to listen to.
As you stopped 5:40 the one crawling out of the German Trench is Hannes, the Drummer, and also the Husband of Floor, the Frontwoman of Nightwish. You see, you didnt strawl Far from your Start in Euro Metal;) Like @Jennifer Miller commented, she sang the end Credits Song. They really did enhance their Productions and Web Appearance in the Last Decade, along with really not over the Top but professional produced Songs, and for me they truely Shine at the Concerts, giving it all for the Audience. Very happy This one also did get you! Stay healthy NWA Bavaria North, Germany.
By the way, thiese guys do a great show live, as well. Saw them in October 2022 at the Ryman in Nashville, and in St. Louis the year before. They parked a tank onstage at the Ryman...
Floor's husband Hannes is the guy who gets injured by the grenade at the beginning. Floor closes out the credits with some beautiful vocalization. They had no choice. The officers were committed to prosecute the offensive per their orders. If you refused to fight you would face court martial and possible execution.
Also, the words carved into the cross, "Lest we forget," was a plea by many veterans to never repeat this series of tragedies by remembering what happened. Modern events show what we learned...
This video IMHO is one of the most important music videos ever made. It should be compulsory viewing for everyone. It would make it much harder for the warmongering *ssholes on all sides to play their bloody games.
The soldiers at that war didn’t have much choice then to follow orders, if not they got shot for treason. This event happened on a lot of places along the line but never again. The generals was really worried about the morale so it got stopped. But yes, this song is truly a masterpiece as the video. For me personally I get amazed by the effort and time this guys put down on every video they release. If I was a teacher in history I play one Sabaton song every week plus the history from Sabatons History site. The kids would love it an learn and remember. And a mother thing that hit me as I watch the reactions from all over the world is how different the knowledge is from Europe and the US.
There is a movie from the early 2000s called Joyuex Noel, which is a fictional story but based on this event. It's a great movie in my opinion and really conveys the story this song tells
3:52 Yep it would have a Christmas feel, it's the "Carol of the Bells"; uses the original melody from "Shchedryk," written by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1914.
What an AMAZING 🌟CHRISTMAS🌟 song by SABATON. The lyrics and the MUSIC the Video.. unbelievable! All Band Members play a Role. Power of love, for bring one of the biggeste song ever to new top 3 versions (maybe best version )
Great reaction!!! Sabaton has alot of songs about important historical events. The most reacted to are probably the ones you did and all the animated videos (No bullets fly, Night witches and Red baron. You should really do all of them because they are amazing) They also have alot of songs without the video. But the are equally important. They have 2* albums about the Swedish great power. They are from Sweden and what i mean with 2* is that they did the songs both in Swedish and English. The Swedish versions have lyric videos (Unofficial) on youtube. Easy to find. They are the best version of the album. Such as Lejonet från Norden and Carolus Rex. You should def look them up.
Sabaton has also a great History channel on YT with lot of info, photo's and real footage of the events they sing about. Very interesting! And if I may give you a tip...always watch video's till the end of the credits (if they run it) because I think that everyone who participated in making a video deserves their credit. And sometimes there a surprises to be found, as you already learned from others in the comments haha. And I concur with "No Bullets Fly", the animated!! video. Very emotional!
Christmas Truce... is most beautiful moment in our history and one of the most terrible one. I break my heart.. there were just yunge people so far away of their loving ones..
It's important to note this mainly happened between British The ones in the Brown uniforms and German troops some French soldiers guys wearing Blue and Red did take part but for obvious reasons the majority didn't same for the Belgians would you celebrate with your invader and while Indian troops didn't understand what Christmas was it reminded them of their holiday called Diwali sorry if butchered that which was enough for them to mingle with the Germans this happened all the way up an down the British lines though one British regiment did respond to Germany singing with Machine gun fire so not all participated but for the most part the peace held for several day in some cases a week. But as one TH-camr said it was the symptoms of a young by the end of 1915 the majority of the troops who took part had either Ben moved to different fronts or killed troops on both sides had experienced poison gas, rolling bombardments etcetera so there was really no connection or willingness to do it again. Extra history I think hes called has a good video on this very topics.
if you study the histoy of the 1914 Christmas truce it'll tell you that the men involved were either moved to a different part of the line (it was an unofficial truce and only a relatively small portion of troops took part), or they were threatened with death (and sometimes actually killed by their co) or imprisonment. they literally did not have a choice but to fight a day later
Piano melody at the beginning is Carol Of The Bells, played backwards. Overall song nelody...is a waltz! It was the slow burning success of this song that garnered the band millions of new fans around the world, sending them into headlining, arena sell out tours! Sabaton writes anthemic sing-alongs, and you really do learn stuff! Lets face it...not many ppl have time to learn some history...but time for a great song? Yes! Sabaton has a hidden secret weapon...lead guitarist, Tommy Johansson! He heads his own band, Majestica and has a YT channel where he uploads a new and insanely epic power metal cover of already great songs, every Fri! Often referred to as "the male Floor"... you've GOT to hear Tommy sing! Please reactbto his cover of Steelheart's She's Gone....you will ve blown away!!
I like to pair Christmas Truce with Majestica's A Christmas Carol, with a little Thomas Paine mixed in. Christmas Truce tells the story of people who were smarter than the generals and kings, who told them that the August 1914 war would be over by Christmas 1914. That's what SHOULD have happened. The Christmas Truce was the sanest reaction to the insanity of war. Tommy Johansson, playing the French soldier, also made A Christmas Carol with his other band, Majestica. The Charles Dickens classic ends with Scrooge living Christmas in his heart everyday: Peace on Earth and Goodwill to All. That's what Christmas really means. As for Thomas Paine, he wrote the January 1776 pamphlet Common Sense, which helped convince the colonists that they needed to break away from the monarchy system. "In the early ages of the world, according to the scripture chronology, there were no kings; the consequence of which was there were no wars; it is the pride of kings which throws mankind into confusion." I'm reading The Guns of August, about the beginning of WWI, and that's a great example of the pride of kings causing millions of people to be maimed, terrorized, killed. Queen Victoria married off her children to "royalty" in Europe to secure peace. But, as the way to Hell is paved with good intentions, her grandchildren squabbled, and started the slaughter of WW1. Really, war doesn't have to be inevitable. And anyone who is starting one should be locked in the Douaumont Ossuary with their opponent(s), each given a flintlock pistol with one shot, and left there. Nice reaction, and yes, many thanks to Sabaton for keeping this story alive.
And you have not discover tommy johansson yet. Tommy are "only the drummer and instrument player in sabaton, his voice are up there with the best in the worid, Queen, Elton John, is among the best in the worid, his range and talent are out of this world.
If you really want to go down the Sabaton rabbit-hole, I would recommend these: (These are all from the Sabaton Channel, and they never block videos so it's safe to use) [live at Woodstock 2012]: Ghost Division, 40:1 and Uprising [Great Tour Live Videos]: En Livstied I Krig (make sure to turn subtitles on), Red Baron, Swedish Pagans, Primo Victoria, Fields of Verdun, Devil Dogs & Angels Calling [Lyric videos]: Attack of the dead men, The Final Solution, In Flanders Fields, 82nd All the way, Sparta, Shiroyama, Cliffs Of Gallipolli and The lost betallion [Music Video's]: Steel Commanders, Defence of Moscow, Livgardet (make sure to turn subtitles on), Fields of Verdun, Rourke's Drift, Screaming Eagles, Uprising, The Future Of Warfare (Building Blocks Video) & Seven Pillars of wisdom [Animated History Video's]: Night Witches and No Bullets Fly (not animated music video's, the animated history/story video's) [Covers]: Kingdom Come [Offical video] and I'm sure people told you but in case, Sabaton have another channel (Sabaton History Channel) where they do a deep dive into the history behind the songs with Indy Nidell.
After this happened the Russians tried to start a truce on the eastern front on Easter. The issue was that Easter is on different days in the Russian and the German calendars so it never happened.😢
Absolutely some Trans Siberian Orchestra Carol of the Bells vibes in there. Interestingly, Carol of the Bells is based on a Ukrainian folk song, Shchedryk. Hopefully, this year, 110 years after the Christmas Truce, we can be done with our current Ukraine adventure and not need another holiday truce.

I concur and watch in HIGH volume to the very end!
Agree 💯 % No Bullets Fly is so fantastic ❤

hey Marina
I was there in Gothenburg and I can only agree.
FYI…the lead singer of Nightwish sang those end credits. She is married to the Sabaton drummer.
Floorgasm :)

NWA Bavaria North, Germany.
You will like The Hakka. It is a short video based on a true story when New Zealand troops and Germans united to play football. Amazing.
They indeed have their own History Channel where they get deep into the history about each song they release. www.youtube.com/@SabatonHistory
Nightwish Army Northern Germany greets the Sabaton family.
bro..nightwish and sabton are a big family
they are more historically accurate in their videos than most movies.
There's also an "Animated Story Video" version of this with narration about the event bracketing the song and animated scenes playing throughout.
By the way, thiese guys do a great show live, as well. Saw them in October 2022 at the Ryman in Nashville, and in St. Louis the year before. They parked a tank onstage at the Ryman...

You screwed up! The end credits music was sung by Floor Jansen of nightwish! The song is great but her vocals make it impactful!
I didn’t know at the time! That’s my bad!
Also, the words carved into the cross, "Lest we forget," was a plea by many veterans to never repeat this series of tragedies by remembering what happened. Modern events show what we learned...
Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who do study history are doomed to stand by and watch on as others repeat it.
They didn t go back killing their new friends , they shoot high ,,, and were shifted out to other places later on

If you really want to go down the Sabaton rabbit-hole, I would recommend these:
(These are all from the Sabaton Channel, and they never block videos so it's safe to use)
[live at Woodstock 2012]: Ghost Division, 40:1 and Uprising
[Great Tour Live Videos]: En Livstied I Krig (make sure to turn subtitles on), Red Baron, Swedish Pagans, Primo Victoria, Fields of Verdun, Devil Dogs & Angels Calling
[Lyric videos]: Attack of the dead men, The Final Solution, In Flanders Fields, 82nd All the way, Sparta, Shiroyama, Cliffs Of Gallipolli and The lost betallion
[Music Video's]: Steel Commanders, Defence of Moscow, Livgardet (make sure to turn subtitles on), Fields of Verdun, Rourke's Drift, Screaming Eagles, Uprising, The Future Of Warfare (Building Blocks Video) & Seven Pillars of wisdom
[Animated History Video's]: Night Witches and No Bullets Fly (not animated music video's, the animated history/story video's)
[Covers]: Kingdom Come [Offical video]
and I'm sure people told you but in case, Sabaton have another channel (Sabaton History Channel) where they do a deep dive into the history behind the songs with Indy Nidell.
Hannes Van Dahl's wife is Floor Jansen from Nightwish and she's singing during the closing credits. Ya missed it.

I’d recommend the songs inmate 4859, night witches and fields of verdun
I despise christmas and any other holiday, this is the only Christmas themed song allowed here.
The start of the music reminded me so much of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
I like to refer to Sabaton as 'Valor Metal'
