Mate recently found this channel have spent a lot of hours watching back about a year up to last years silage. I’m a part time farmer and still find every video so entertaining. My 16 month old son hasn’t got much interest watching tv with me but doesn’t move a muscle when your videos are on. Thanks to everyone for their hard work. The respect and love you and your stock show for each other is great to see , farmers over here are not like that at all. If Neptune was over her he probably would have killed 3 people by now 😅 and rightly so . Heidi puts literally every human I know to shame!! Can’t say enough good things about you guys and your attitudes . I hope to one day come visit and maybe my son and I give you a hand for a few hours. 💪🏼 Anyway much respect ✊

Thats so true. However there are those who truly think food starts out in the store. I had to bring 3 girls from school to show them my uncles dairy just to get the facts across to them. After seeing the cows get milked and all, they still were skeptical. It took giving them a cup of milk out of the tank to bring the point home! Watching the light dawn on their faces was priceless!

"Heidi, Ben, Father, and me/myself" would actually be correct in this instance. ; )
Easy trick is to take everyone else out of the sentence. If you'd say I when you're alone, say I with other people; if you'd say me alone, say me with other people.
If you'd say, "X are doing the thing." Alone you'd say "I am doing the thing" so when you add people "Heidi, Ben, Father, and I are doing the thing"
If you'd say "We've got X doing the thing." Alone you'd say "We've got [just] me/myself doing the thing." when you add people, "We've got Heidi, Ben, Father, and me/myself doing the thing."
Don't actually care, just noticed the meme of this frustrating you through a few videos and thought I'd share this trick.

We conditioned ours to food by beating on a big plastic bucket just before feed time, every day. So when we beat the bucket they follow us anywhere. They got addicted to the corn feed.
Another thing that happened recently is the dogs we adopted decided on their own to help the farmhand to round out the cattle! We were actually surprised that they are even helping (we initially got the dogs because a pack of stray dogs roaming our area had attacked one of our calves in July, killing him, so we got the two neutered female dogs to kind of inhibit the approach of other dogs into our land).
Só now the farmhand goes ahead beating the bucket the cows following in the middle and the two dogs right behind barking. Quite a sight whenever we rotate pastures, about to once a month...

I actually enjoy watching cows or sheep going down the road.
I wait patiently as it is all transcending and just relax and enjoy seeing the animals, and as for horses passing, I actually park my lorry up, switch off the engine and sit there watching them passing so the lorry, or engine noise isn't alarming them, and then I move on when they pass.
The only annoying thing about the cows or sheep going down the road which I can complain about is when I am not the first car so I don't have the full view. I think you should dish out tickets for the front row 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

In my 32 years of cows, it never ceased to amaze me how people couldn't work out sorting or moving cattle- even guys been with cows for several years they'd always get in the wrong places, out of line, rushing, you name it! You shouting at the team reminded me about it. There's a knack to being able to sort cows- I could sort 1 out of a group of 10/12 with patience and body positioning etc. Good ole days before my hips n knees let me down

I recently learnt about Keyline Ploughs. Like a knife which cuts into the ground, but with a 'bulb' on the bottom. It doesn't much disturb the top, but lifts the soil up from below - 400 to 600 mm below ground. I believe it helps with drainage and improves the depth of soils. Usually used on sloping ground to slow water run off, so not sure how good it would be on your level land. Have you ever considered trying this for your land, Tom?

So Heidi, Ben, Father and I are moving cows... (Much more complicated than this of course, but hopefully this helps.)

Especially difficult when your grazing and silaging planning is not only dictated by the weather but also the state of the local drainage ditches which are beyond your control. I miss dairy farming a lot, including some of the challenges. But I definitely would not miss the challenges you face trying to work around fields which are flooded 50% of the year. I salute your hard work and also for honestly videoing it for us all to see. Keep up the great work 💪👏🐄

Have you ever moved cows on a narrow fenced road when Fire brigade, Ambulance and Police is on a emergency call and tries to go by, Tom? I have and that gave us a new county record in speed cow shuffling! Haha Ps. Now we have made some underpass culverts with communal subsidies and "cow road" beside car road.

I lived in Ireland for a few years and I loved driving around and waiting for the cows or sheep to pass on the road!
They were always just interested in what they were doing and always seemed happy- sometimes we all need to slow down and wait for the cows to cross the road!

I was watching some studies done in Australia with willow trees and how they can be used both to stregthen boggy reed beds and restore woodland areas, surely if some was planted around or within that weir the rate of rainfall reaching the waterbody around the farm would deminish? Treees treeees treeees🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌲🌳🌲

At least you don't have impatient drivers pushing past you and trying to drive up the road against the direction the cows are going. Last time I helped drive cattle on my uncle's farm we had about 120 head coming down the road and a driver of a Porche who didn't want to wait for them to pass. When he tried to drive through the heard they spooked and started to run and kick. By the time the heard passed the Porche was covered in dents and muck. Thousands in damage to the car.

Love your videos. On this "episode", I couldn't help but think how much interest you could add to your videos if you used dogs to round up and drive your livestock. Thumbs up from the West Coast of Canada.

Just a quick (potentially dumb) question. Given that there are horses on your farm, why are they not used to "drive" your cattle from one field to another? Why walk, rather than ride? Terrific videos, love your productions. Thanks for all the work.
