    Thank you for this good explanation....now I know what my mechanic was talking about when he told me that it could be the governor and told me to remove the middle line(control line) to check that first.

    Wow great vid. I am from south Africa. Being in the AB business for 30 years. I always swopped out the sd9 air dryers when we were stuck on road side with wabco air dryers. We disconnected the governors valve . It will ensure the heads stay under pressure at all time. My personal feeling is that its better to keep the load on rather than free flow the head valves at purge.

    I have a couple questions. Some over a year ago I installed a reman Cummins compressor. The old comp was wore out. Ever since installing new comp it has pumped oil. Not all the time but most of the time. I have owned this truck for 13 years and it has always had a 3 line dryer. After watching your video I am wondering if this comp I installed should have a 4 line dryer? Also should the discharge line between comp and dryer be as short as possible within reason? Thank you.

    • @fleetproducts
      @fleetproducts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is the compressor on your truck a QE cummins compressor? If so, a QE compressor requires a 4-line dryer. We recommend that the discharge line be 10-12 feet in length with no loops in the line.

  • @robpeters5204

    I was told years ago to always stay clear of that purge valve when under the truck that It could hurt you severely if under it while servicing like greasing or doing other maintenance . Since they could go off at moment. When you least expect it. Is this true?
    Thanks for a great video!

    • @fleetproducts

      If the truck is not running there should be no issues. If the truck is running, the dryer will purge out air and grit from the system.

      Check the supply line going from your compressor to your dryer and make sure there are no low spots and no loops in the line. The line should gradually drop from the compressor to your dryer. If there are any low points, condensation could be building up in the line. If your compressor is pumping oil it will mix with the condensation creating the white soot you speak of..

    Hey well I wish I found your video earlier dealer took 2 days to find out what part number my Air dryer was since it has a 4 th port. I checked my air compressor and yes it had a qe on it. The difference here in Canada price wise is 160 cad for the standard 3 port bendix and the one for the 4 port is a whopping 650 cad dollars. Is there anyway I can change to a 3 port, my air dryer looks ancient and I don't think just changing the filter is enough. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thx

    • @fleetproducts
      @fleetproducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What model and kind of air dryer do you have? Is the truck in a warm shop where no ice or cold is effecting the air brake system?
      #1 - The compressor should only pump 125-130 psi, 150 psi is way too high. Something must be wrong with the governor.
      #2 - Do you hear any leaks anywhere in the truck? If the air tanks are draining that would tell me you have a dryer problem because the check to keep the tanks full is in the dryer. If the compressor is slow, I would change the discharge line from the compressor to the air dyer as it is very likely restricted.

    • @fleetproducts
      @fleetproducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of our dryers require a governor so that the dryer will unload in the unload cycle and then charge in the charge cycle. If you google electric air dryers, there are options available with the electric expello valve to purge the water. Our truck dryers will not work.

      I am commenting in desperation. My wabco dryer on my series 60 in my freightliner will not purge. This is Inspite of changing purge valve twice , changed governor and changed the valve which directs the inbound air just inside where the main hose connects to the dryer. Is it possible that the small air leak on the tube on top of my compressor is preventing purging? Any good advice would be very appreciated. Thank you

      @@robertrinaldi8748 with the engine off grab som fittings that wont leak and put 120 psi on the line from the gov to the compressor and from the dryer to the compressor.
      If they are leaking replace them. Is the gov at the dryer or compressor?
      The big line from the compressor goes first to the dryer. Disconnect it from the dryer.
      You might need an unloader kit in the compressor but fix the leaks first. Use soap in a spray bottle to find leaks. If the gov is on the dryer you can air test that line with the truck running. Soon as the gov kicks on and sends air to the unloader valve in the compressor that long air line becomes pressurised and should bubble if its leaking once the air reaches 120 or wherever your system pressure tops out.

      Are you sure that you have plumbed the governor properly? Take a look at the governor video on our channel for further instruction. Here are a few other things you can check: 1. The check valve between the dryer and first tank may be restricted. 2. If there is an excessive bend in the discharge line, oil turns to carbon in the line and can cause a restriction.. 3. Water freezing between the compressor and the first tank can also cause a restriction. These are a few things that can cause your system to not build air pressure.

  • @jotegg1276

    So I have a Haldex air dyer the problem is.... purge's to long. Purge valve does not purge quickly it is slow and drains off 20-25psi off the primary. New dryer kit, new D-2 governor and new unloader kit on a compressor that is only 3 yrs old . . . why and where should I be checking?

    • @fleetproducts
      @fleetproducts  ปีที่แล้ว

      When the dryer purges, it has to empty all of the air in the dryer and the discharge line coming from the compressor to the dryer. The length of time can vary from truck to truck. However, if the check valve in the dryer is leaking, then the purging will not stop. The air will continue to flow through to the purge valve. Check to make sure it is not leaking. A one-way check valve in the primary air tank is a good idea as well to keep the air system tight.

      If you are running a Cummins/Holset QE or E type compressor, it requires a 4-line AD-9 style dryer. QE or E type compressors must be installed in conjunction with a 4-line dryer so the compressor will not pass oil into the air system. The 4-line dryer maintains pressure in the discharge line while the compressor is unloaded or an e-con valve and check valve must be used in the system.
      If you want to get away from the AD-9 style dryer, you could also install a Turbo 2000 dryer as this has a build in e-con valve internally. We have parts available if needed. Give us a call.

      ?? You think- ClearDrain System? You have nothing to remove moisture from the air.. You still have 100% saturation.. you need physical media to remove moisture and oil. You either super cool the air or desiccant... what hog wash.. Carbon on the reed valves is either soot in the oil above 4.5%.. excessive glycol in the oil above 50ppm or excessive heat at the piston fire deck above 450F . Excessive back pressure from the dryer (above 20 PSI delta P sup to del) will create carbon at the inlet fitting of the dryer.. You guys better go out and do your homework..

      @@nightcrawler1 After further discussion with our technician, he said to take a look at your discharge line going from your compressor to your dryer. This discharge line should be between 10 - 12 feet long and there should be no loops in the line. It should slope downwards to your dryer so that the condensation that is building up can be purged out of the dryer. There is no need to install an alcohol evaporator unless you are in a colder climate.

      I think the air dryer dumps air because its such a convenient place.

      Because he totally ignored the electrical connection to the dryer...

    Probably the stupidest question. If its all mechanical then why is there an electrical plug?

    • @fleetproducts
      @fleetproducts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The plug on the dryer is for the wiring harness.

    • @fleetproducts
      @fleetproducts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would not need it to operate. The wire harness is strictly for heating up the element inside the purge valve so it does not freeze up in cold temperatures.

      Fleet Products Ltd. Ok, thanks. Ideas of a particular compressor to use?

    • @fleetproducts
      @fleetproducts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would all depend on how much CFM you are looking for.

      Fleet Products Ltd. All id require is a small 8 CFM, but more is perfectly fine. Just means i can run multiple air tools at once.
