George if you are fishing for pike you should try fish on a rainy day or after a day of rain they feed very well on misrable days and they mostly feed during morning or evening just leting you know to be even more successful

Another great video George, Pike switch on and off more than any other fish we have in our waters, this is due to a number of factors and too numerous to explain via msg but this is more than likely the main contributing reason for those blank days. Pike have large sensory pores on their head, jaw and lateral line so a big factor is a sudden weather change, pike more so than most like constant steady conditions and will feed well during this time. A sharp change in weather and barometric pressure will put them hard on the bottom, jack pike included. Now you still can catch and Its at this time when you have to tune into their aggressive nature and make them take without actually feeding, sinking lines, different styles of flies etc. But thats a whole different chapter lol.
Good luck and hope this helps a bit mate 👍

There is French fly angler who wrote a book about pike on the fly .
It’s called « la pêche du brochet à la mouche » and the name of the angler is Jacky Roehrig. He is considered by a lot of us as an expert.
His book, even in French, gives many examples of fly patterns and where to find pike and which are the best conditions.
You could order it from your favorite platform 😉
    Thank you for sharing George
    Keep it up bro

Hi George there is no clear answer when and what pike bite best, all this is a trial and error method, it is known that pike are more active in autumn because they are preparing for spawning, pike do not like fast water like salmonids but this does not mean that sometimes they are not there, pike almost always follow whitefish, it is known that fish in colder months move in the river to calmer and deeper sections of rivers, so-called wintering grounds, pike follows them. there are days when pike eat almost all day and sometimes it is the so-called feeding window, they are active for 30 minutes and that's it. it is known that large flies have long been great baits, their color depends largely on the color of the water, the time of day or the food they are most eager to feed on. Pike is a predator fish like trout almost never miss injury fish is mean easy food. Enjoying your pike fishing is so exciting ☺️ 😊

    Another great video..
Would a 7 weight rod suffice for pike?
    Might give it a go.

Sad to say that I killed a lot of pike when I was in my teens in the 1980s. It was the done thing. When I learned the errors of my way, it didn’t take long to explain to my father, that pike were an essential presence for a healthy ecosystem. Or rather, their removal was detrimental to the ecosystem.
Fly fished for them a lot between 1997 and 2005, when I was given a copy of Alan Hanna’s Flyfishing for Big Pike Video. But I lost interest and focused on sea trout and brown trout.
I catch Jacks occasionally when using streamers, but no longer something I target. Same for a lot of other species; Sea Bass included. Tight Lines

We all learn as we go along, or at least most do.
