Totally agree with you Gil. Costs of all at UBS are a huge factor, poor parking situations and ofcourse they need to keep winning to get more in the seats. Also, for those living in Suffolk, Elmont ain't close at all. Heck for those in Levittown it's still a journey with rush hour traffic. It's unfortunate because UBS is a really beautiful arena. Miss the ole barn days!
I'm with you, Joe. The Old Barn was a great location. The big advantage for UBS is you can take the LIRR there but parking and driving is expensive and the location is not as good as Nassau Coliseum was. Still, Isles fans are very loyal and dedicated. If the team played well and entertaining hockey, the building would be full. Thanks for the comment, JoeIndelicato-l7f. LGI
Gil you hit on all the reasons why attendance is low. Barzal has right to be angry, but NOT at the fans. In case he didn't notice, that building was PACKED on Brent Sutter night because there are so many hard core Isles fans out there who showed up out of respect to Brent and all those great teams he played on. Those same fans are NOT showing up for this team and for the reasons you accurately stated. But let me add one other major factor, a factor that ownership needs to address. It is IMPOSSIBLE getting to this arena. Traffic is horrible. The most convenient parking is off limits to non full season ticket holders. Fans must walk 20 minutes from the Emerald Lot or wait, exposed to the elements, for a shuttle bus. And someone needs to explain to me why the Islanders and NYS spent 10s of millions of dollars upgrading the track and Belmont Park station (75 yards from the arena) and yet no trains use that station!!! It's ridiculous.
The parking situation is definitely a problem. I usually take the LIRR to games but then you still need to either walk or wait for the same bus. If the team wins, the fans will deal with the parking problem, the location and the high cost of attending games. If not, those all become reasons not to go. Thanks for the comment, frogger1952. LGI
Hi Gil! I love Barzie but ya know what’s “Empty”? The doggone NET! We can’t score, we don’t hit, we don’t protect players, we play scared and we’re slow. At least with Trotz we were boring but we won our share. This is not an exciting team. Let’s see-crazy prices, crazy parking, crazy walk, and and a goal maybe 2 per game? Kidding me? Sorry but I miss the Coliseum and the pure excitement tailgating, while grilling, eating and drinking your beverage of choice. Yes we have a new arena and practice facility but they gave us twice as many bars (40) to gouge us-yes it’s business and they have to make their money back but instead of tailgating, we pay the piper. Looking back, I feel we got scammed, it’s how I feel. However, give us a team we can be “Proud of again” and we will show up because the NHL underestimates our fierce loyalty to our past. Gil, this has been an abysmal season. This and next year is time to say goodbye to the older core. Caps want Brock? Ok then overpay! We’re not doing those guys any favors! For the record, Dobson received a very nasty cross check to the chest--we’ve been pushed around and run at all year. Hope the lesson has been learned. Don’t go into another season without muscle and sandpaper. It’s how you win playoff series. Take care Gil!
You're spot on about the prices and the Coliseum. Fans will be inconvenienced or pay top dollar to see a winning team or even an entertaining team that gives hope for the future. The current Isles are neither. In theory, Lou should be able to get a lot of Nelson and Palms and maybe some other players as well. He has to maximize the value of these assets, they will never be higher. Thanks for the comment, Frankie. I'm with you. LGI
I also take the train. You still have a long walk or bus ride to the arena, but it's far better than paying $40 to park. Thanks for the comment, corylennon2964. LGI
Monday's game should've been played at 12:30 or 4:00 pm considering it was a holiday and they were going up against the NCAA Football National Championship.
Makes sense. Not sure when the NHL finalized their schedule and when they announced the date of the college football championship would be played. Still, it would have made sense. Thanks for the comment, nolamauraracing7996. LGI
We are loyal but we are not stupid. I don't have a problem with Barzal being upset but record low temps, inauguration day, National Championship game plus poor play equals less butts in the seats.
All fair points, BigIslanderfan. I don't know if Barzal was complaining or just making an observation. there are legit reasons for fans staying away, the team's inconsistent play being the top reason. Thanks for the comment and LGI
Gil as usual you are spot on about the problems concerning the Arena, and the mess Lou has gotten us into with bad contracts. Nelson has to be traded at the deadline we cannot afford to lose him for nothing. Fans should not be angry at Barzy, they should be mad at Lou. LGI
Spot on Darrell. Lou is the primary cause of the situation that exists. I don't think anybody should be mad at Barzy. He is simply noticing what is obvious. We also don't know the context or what else was said if anything. Thanks for the comment, Darrell. LGI.
He has been solid when he's been in there, the occasional bad game notwithstanding. I hope he can make good on this opportunity. Thanks for the comment, corylennon2964. LGI
They announced this morning no surgery but he's week to week. That means he will likely be out at least until the 4 Nations Tournament. Thanks for the comment, Otto. LGI
Somebody should tell Barzal that the power play is the worst in the NHL, the penalty kill is among the worst in the NHL, the team is in last in the Metro, 15th out of 16th in the East, and only 4 teams in the whole NHL have scored less goals than the Islanders! That's the real bleepin' joke bro! I've been to 2 games this season. Usually by this time of the season I'm around 10 or 11. As George Steinbrenner always said, Winning puts fannies in the seats. If you pro-rate Barzal's stats due to games missed due to injuries, he's only about at a 60 point pace, well off last year's 80 point season, so he's part of the problem and shouldn't be complaining, especially given the salary he's earning now. Not many 60 point players earn what he does so he should probably focus on his game and not the fans.
Hockey games are super expensive - and not just the ticket themselves. The weather has been questionable. The Islanders are on the cusp of bowing out of playoff contention.
Its a terrible product right now. I am glad people in Canada like to waste money to watch bad hockey. Thats their choice. I am not going to spend hard earned money on guys going through the motions.
We don't know the full conversation or the full context, but Barzy shouldn't be complaining, he should be doing something about it. The team needs to be better and that means changing the roster. Winning puts fans in the seats. Even an entertaining team with hope for the future would fill the seats. They don't have either right now. Thanks for the comment, Another_User_Name_. LGI
I think you nailed it there, craigjacobs6249. Effort, spirit, etc is a key to engaging fans. It's expensive to attend a game and fans won't spend a lot of money on a team they don't feel is entertaining, winning or playing with heart. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Too many excuses for the bad attendance at UBS. Buffalo has been bad forever without a good future and has bad weather yet they show up. Many other teams fans do as well good or bad. It’s a LI thing. Barzal is right to complain.
Good 🌄 , Gil, how are you? Injury updates, Noah Dobson took a hit that would cost him the rest Monday 🌙 off. Despite going off the ice under his own power, it doesn't look good, NOT GOOD AT ALL. Yesterday, the Islanders had an event for season ticket holders. Rumor has it that the Capitals are interested in Brock Nelson, but it's just a rumor. Dobson's injury gives Dennis Chulowski a chance to prove himself. Barzy said to a teammate that UBS Arena is empty. IF HE SAID WHAT HE SID TO POKE THE 🐻, LET'S HOPE IT WORKS. HAPPY 🎂, MIKE BOSSY 1957-2022. It's been nearly 3 years since he passed away, and he's still missed. Drafted 15th in the 1st round in 1977, the rap against him was he couldn't play defense, THEY WERE WRONG. Al Arbour put him with Trots, a very smart move putting those 2 kids together for the next 10 years. It was like they were Butch Cassidy (Trots) the slick crafty one, and The Sundance Kid (Boss) because he was the sniper. He joined the 50 50 club in 1981. He could've broken the record, but he passed it to Trots who scored a goal very unselfish move his way of saying Thank you. Marv Albert showed him some ❤ after a 4 goal game against the Capitals when he called him THE 🎩. Now, Saturday while the KC Chiefs and the Houston Texans, I saw Patrick Mahomes, throw a TD pasd to Travis Kelcie while he was in mid air. It put me in mind of Boss scoring the goal in mid air in the Finals against Vancouver in 1982. When he shot the puck, the goalie had no idea where it was, until he looked behind him. The goalies were deathly afraid of the Islanders because of Mike Bossy. He was a Calder Cup 🏆, a Lady Byng 🏆 2 or 3 times, a Conn Smythe 🏆. One more thing, the bad back cost him at least ten more years and 100 -200 more goals to go with it. from you later, Gil, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
I hope Dobson isn't out for too long but I can't say I'm optimistic. Nelson's trade rumors will continue. Lou should be able to get a big return for him and Palms and probably some other players as well. The Bossy goal against Vancouver was incredible. It may be even more impressive when I see it in slow motion. Great memories. Thanks for the comment, Cindy and LGI.
I don't like the way Lou constructed this roster and how long he's kept this group together. The team hasn't won a playoff round in the last 3 seasons and it's highly unlikely they'll win one this year. He keeps doubling down and believing in the core while not getting anything in return for players whose value just keeps going down. Thanks for the comment, SmokingGun55. LGI
If you win, they will come. NY fans don't give a crap about what you think. Just win!!! Its been over 40yrs since Lord Stanley has been hoisted. Frustrating for all!!!! Again, just win!!!!!!

Spot on chrisferrandino9563. Win and fans will come. Even if you just give them hope for the future and hustle and play entertaining hockey, they will come. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Absolutely, frogger1952. The team needs to win or at least play entertaining hockey and give fans hope for the future. Right now, the team isn't doing any of that. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
That would be interesting. Let's see if that comes to fruition. Wonder if the Isles would trade him within the division. Thanks for the comment, LeonExile05. LGI
@ Couldn’t see why they wouldn’t simply because of where they are in the standings. But if that changes by the time the deadline hits then I suppose they trade him somewhere else.
29 rumours to central division out there. stars, jets, mild, all need c help. av's don't like rentals. uhc could look to make moves for playoff run and may want vet help at c like 29. Laffs also interested. And rumours out there about j t. Word is rags had a deal with casucks for j t (chityl, first) then deal was off as van. wanted 13. nj also in on j t. One so-called expert says j t will end up on east coast and says louzer could go forward or backwards so don't count louzer out on j t deal. Louzer had j t interest before. Maybe louzer deals 29 for j t? canes also in on j t. It sounds like j t is the problem in van. petey wants to stay so maybe boeser goes? And flyers/wings played a 3 pt. game tonite, habs, rags w to put isles a few more pts. behind. 7 pts. out of w c with 7 teams to pass. Desperate times for louzer. Top 5 pick/first at stake.
Lots of teams should have interest in 29. The question is will Lou make the deal that maximizes the return or will he even make a deal at all? Knowing Lou, he'll try to sign him to an extension. We'll see. Thanks for the comment, Steven. LGI.
13. No one wants to pay to see this boring stagnant non-playoff caliber shit team. Get louzer to make some deals to bring excitement to isles fans. Give fans some future to look forward to. I'd rather be put to sleep on my couch instead of blowing $200 to do that. The coli had a lot of empty seats during the losing milbury years too. Take the hint louzer.
The parking. The Belmont Garage is where the regular guy wants to park. I need to go on stub hub and pay 70 bucks to park there. The Emerald Lot is a disaster. I may as well walk from Floral Park. The train is a joke. A mile away. And long wait after game. Plus concession prices high and very poor quality compared to MSG. Citifield etc. Add to that a boring team.
💯! Long time Isles fan that now lives in Vegas. Made my 1st visit in December to the SABRES game (of all games) and was so disappointed in the parking situation.
Those are all reasons for lower attendance, MichaelSr-sp5pw. I usually take the train and walk or take the bus when I go. It is not as convenient as the Coliseum was and the location isn't as good, but the building is very nice. The prices for parking and food are way too high. You need a winning team or at least an entertaining team with hope for the future to get fans there regularly. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Trading Dobson would be dumb - 25 year old D-man like him do not grow on tree's, lets appreciate what we have! ..The team must make trades to improve their 2nd/3rd/4th line talent, get younger, plus add depth. One injury and this team is fleeced. Trade these aging players going into FA, to teams starving for play-off success (A-hem...I'm talking to you Maple Loserrs). The Oilers and Jets also come to mind, Avs and Dallas want to win now - even bubble up and coming teams like the Jackets and Le'habitant - they have young talent to separate with to make a play-off push. It's up to Uncle Lou to start fleecing these teams, be the smartest, wiliest man in the room and take advantage of other teams desperate neediness - it's that cavalier! This team gets another gear, faster, younger, they become more exciting and the fans will want to fill the seats. Right now, this team is heading backwards, slow, look tired, and uninterested.
To trade Dobson, I'd need to be blown away by the return. He's a liability on defense but offensively, he has a lot of talent and yes, 70 point per season defensemen don't grow on trees. The next 6-7 months will be critical for the future of this team. There are chances to move on from some vets and Brock, Palms, Lee, Pageau and maybe either Pelech or Pulock but not both, are candidates to move. If they miss this chance, we're in for a long and difficult rebuild rather than a retool. Thanks for the comment, smartenuphumans. LGI
Gm Gil. I hope Dobson's injury is not serious. But, his contributions to one of the worst team in the league means marginal at best. There isn't a player on this team that has earned a roster spot relative to their trade value in the rebuild that will start after blue Lou is gone. I think you are overstating Dobson's value because his numbers would earn him regular ice time on a competitive team. Similarly Mr $9 mil a season , Matt Barzal, isn't playing anywhere near the level of a player with his cap hit. But, thanks to Isles management this is another contract they will not be able to deal with because his trade value would require paying a substantial portion of his salarly. This team is quite a few years from recovering from the criminal mis management of this club
It will take time to recover from the mismanagement we've seen. This offseason may be their last best chance to shorten the time needed to retool/rebuild Will Lou do it and do it right? Not holding my breath. Thanks for the comment, Eric. LGI.

Take the hint louzer.
well said, Steven. I hope ownership listens but I"ll believe it when I see it. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
You're far from alone asstcommish. It's an issue, especially when the weather is freezing cold. Thanks for the comment and LGI
LGI
@LockedOnIslanders yes great point! In for a rebuild not a retool.
LGI.
