Over the last three seasons, the Islanders have had almost identical point totals after 49 games, within a couple points at most! That bodes pretty well for their chances of making the playoffs this year, as long as they finish relatively strong as in the other two instances.
This year, there are a lot of teams bunched up right now in the race for the two wild cards. It won't be easy but it is doable. I hope we see them continue to play consistently well. Thanks for the comment, LionZebra. LGI
@ True, more teams in it so far this year, though last year, it was also a race to the finish between at least three or four teams. Regardless, the isles control their own destiny, especially if they keep playing like recently, and stop losing at home to teams like the Flyers or taking a drubbing from the likes of the Sabers!
That Romanov trade looks better with every passing day and he's young. The Isles from last and early this year would have ended up in OT after blowing the 3=2 lead in the last minute.
Earlier this year, you're right, they would have likely blown the lead. Romanov had a great game. I like what he brings to the lineup. Thanks for the comment, anticenshorshipsociety1063. LGI
Great to see Isles playing good team hockey ! We have seen teams get hot at the right time in the past and make a run . Hope the break doesn't interfere with turnaround! LGI !
We'll see Robert. It's good to see them playing better. My fear is that even if they make the playoffs, it's one round and out again. The big picture still needs to be addressed. Thanks for the comment, Robert. LGI.
Wow, what a great effort! Sorokin was superb, and Holmstrom played great as well. Lehkonen's goal was comical-I was a big fan of his when he was with the Habs and was disappointed when they let him go. Overall, a fantastic team effort by the Islanders last night. You're right, Gil-it really does seem like the Islanders always make a late playoff push.LGI
That goal was amazing to see. Sorokin was the difference maker in this game and I love the goal Holmstrom scored, a real goal scorers goal. Thanks for the comment, Darrell. Let's see if they can keep this going. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Gm Gil. Against a better team who most certainly outplayed them, the Isles capitalized on opportunities and got fantastic goal tending. The margin is razor thin.
This team is showing so much heart... and as a lifelong fan, it's all I really ask for. But I can't help but think, imagine this team with 1) a sniper. Imagine Barzy having a goal scorer on his line, I mean a real sniper. Wow. 2) An offensive defenseman. Someone who can really quarterback the power play. Yes, it's great that we are winning. But what's the end result here? We're not good enough to win a Cup, and that should be the ultimate goal here. I'm so frustrated with us being satisfied with making the playoffs, but ultimately, not being good enough to win a Stanley Cup.
They are showing heart, and it's great to see. I hope they can keep it going. I agree with you on the big picture. We'll see how this plays out. I'm not confident in Lou doing the right thing. Thanks for the comment, Lino. LGI.
I was at the game last night, somehow took a wrong turn before entering Emerald and ended up inside the parking lot without paying. The newcomers played well, they should fill the void till Dobson comes back, and frankly Dobson is not that huge of a void. Too many heroes of the game last night 10, 14, goal by 27 and how about the pass to 14, 28 a goal and a huge hit in the 1st. Overall Isles put up an effort they and the fans can be proud of
They did play well and the fans should be proud. They will need to sustain this strong play the rest of the season to make the playoffs. Dobson is not much of a void defensively. Thanks for the comment, spanky9753. LGI
I wish I was more optimistic about Islanders chances of making the playoffs. However, not the number of points out but the fact that they have to jump over 5 teams. Overall super happy about Sorokins very strong game on this run He looks like one of the best Goalies in the game
I realize it won't be easy to jump 5 teams and stay ahead of 7. They will need to play well consistently for the rest of the season to make it and be a little lucky. Sorokin has played well. I'm concerned he will get worn down if Hogberg or Varlamov don't return soon. Thanks for the comment, alexyaybar. LGI.
That was an outstanding season. I'd love to see him play that way for the rest of the season. Won't be easy if they wear him out before Varly or Hogberg get healthy again. Thanks for the comment, MrAschiff. LGI.
I like holstrom I really think he's just gonna keep getting better but yes they're def starting to play as team Gil so they've restored hope for me at least
Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? The Islanders won again their 5th straight, and after a rocky start on their to their homestand, they ended it successfully. Ilya Sorokin had a solid game with 30 saves. The Islanders got a break when the Avalanche had a goal taken away. Instead of blowing the lead in the 3rd period, THEY HELD ON TO IT. Simon Holmstrom did a 180 and scored his goal, and Anders Lee scored. Alexander Romanov was solid. 🐐, DEFENSIVE BREAKDOWN THAT LED TO JACK DRURY'S GOAL. Hero, COMMUNITY EFFORT ALL AROUND, INCLUDING THE PK. They're 4 points out of a playoff spot. The 2 new Islanders, Tony D'Angelo and Scott Perunovich, are more offensive minded, and they can play smart hockey. D'Angelo had a helper, and Perunovich had 2 shots. Hopefully, if D'Angelo can get along with his new teammates, he'll be fine. As for Perunovich, don't let his size fool you. Patrick Roy reinserted Maxim Tsyplakov back in the lineup. Let this line change stand for now, Patrick Roy will change it. The Bridgeport Islanders didn't do well. Is Henrik Tikkonen Ilsa Tikkonen's son? HAPPY 🎂, BILLY HARRIS. The very first player the Islanders drafted in 1972, which makes him an original Islander. He played on the LILCO Line with Jethro and Trots. I hope there were no hard feelings when he went Hollywood. He scored a hat trick in a win against Hartford. Hear from you later, Gil. I'm ⌚️ Game 6 of the 1975 Semifinals between the Islanders and The mean spirited Stanley Cup Champion Flyers. This game and Game 4 started a 50 year old curse that the Flyers have a hard ⏲️ breaking whenever they come to LI. Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS. I almost forgot that Billy Harris was also an Ironman until he got traded.
That Game 6 was great. I didn't like Game 7, but Game 6 was great. Billy Harris had a really good career with the Isles but just missed out on the Cup run. Thanks for the comment, Cindy. LGI.
Wow that was a Statement !!! The Av’s and Carolina make a Massive Trade, and the Irony We beat the Hurricanes and then the Av’s Sorokin Top Shelf, WTF has happened to Lee lol, maybe the Whole Team can spend the Summer with Adam Oats , hopefully they just keep this Momentum, thanks Gil, LGI 💪🏼🏁🏁🏁🏁
Yeah, the Isles should hire Adam Oates full time. Lee has played well this year and I'm happy to see it. We'll see if they can consistently play well. Thanks for the comment, Raymond. LGI.
It’s important to me that Barzal stays on the same line as Horvat. Anders Lee is hitting his stride and his apple to Horvat should solidify his place on that 1st line. Duclair can always go back to the top line but thankfully Islanders really do have great depth.
There is more depth now that everyone is healthy. It's good to see. I agree, Barzy and Bo are best paired on the same line. Thanks for the comment, johnc3526. LGI
No matter What happens regarding the playoffs Nelson and Palms must be traded. Lou could pick up Saad on waivers today and Trade Nelson to the Wild! I love Nelson but he will head to free agency and I don’t want another JT. Tony will be cheaper to sign than Dobson! Trade Dobson to Preds for their 1 st rd pick! Devils have interest in Palms. Make that happen! None of these deals would have any effect on a possible playoff spot. Great as Always Gil! Just some ideas 💡! We need to set up for the future! Trading Nelson, Palms, and Dobson would help acquire pics or prospects.
I agree they still need to move on from Nelson and Palmieri, but will they? Tough to trust Lou. I hope DeAngelo behaves off the ice. If he does and he plays well, then they can keep him. Thanks for the comment, Otto and LGI.
This is the problem with the muddy middle. They aren't good enough to contend and aren't bad enough to be a lottery team. Can they play well consistently for the rest of the season? We'll see. They usually make a run at some point, when everybody is saying it's time to break up the team. Thanks for the comment, MrAschiff. LGI
Gil,we’ve seen this before. Anytime the old boys get a few days off they always have a strong effort. Beating another team who’s played three games in four nights. I don’t care how many we win in a row, Nelson and palms need to be traded. I would trade jgp as well. Of course senile Lou could have unloaded him last deadline but chose not to. I’m already concerned about Sorokin playing to much after the back surgery. Having varly getting hurt every season is a real problem. That’s what happens when the 82 year old Gm gives out ntc and four year deals to a 36 year old BACKUP!
Robert, I am also concerned about Sorokin getting worn down if Varly or Hogberg don't return soon. The big picture hasn't changed. This team would not be able to win in the playoffs if they even get there. It's good to see them playing better, but they still need to move on from these vets. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
we are making playoffs...no more anti Lou negativity on this channel. he constructed a very good squad, brought in an amazing coach. we just got absolutely murdered with injuries this season.. let's go islanders
@@foleydvm lol sure keep telling yourself that. I wouldn’t suggest holding your breath. F senile Lou. Over 20 years and your savior has won nothing. Let me know where I should send the money for the billboard? Injuries? They played horrible when they were all healthy. SMH Saint Patrick the savior is a cheerleader. A joke as a coach just like another hall of famer was gretzky. Keep those orange and blue blinders on. Drive for 5. Lmfao
Still won't be easy to get in. They need to sustain this strong play for the rest of the season and hope none of the other 7 teams in the race play better. Consistency is the key. Let's see if they can do it. Thanks for the comment, foleydvm. LGI
30 GOOD, AV GOALIE NOT is the theme. And what's with isles winning 5 in a row? Is roy some kind of a magician that suddenly made isles good? Or perhaps this streak is in part because of injuries and guys stepping it up as teams overlook Isles? Or could it be tied to the pk which has been almost perfect thru homestand (still 32nd ranked pk)? I said if isles clean pk up that would result in more w's. And don't be fooled-the playoff route is still difficult and this w streak can't cloud what has to be done by louzer. And louzer should give his old buddy guerin a call. Mild put kaprizov on ir and is probably out at least a month. Guerin may want a 29 type up front right about now. Better hurry up louzer before jt or petey end up on mild and take away another potential trade spot. And isles got hot riding the end of a long homestand and could very easily go cold hitting the road for a few. tb, cats who isles haven't played yet wont be easy games. Hard to believe isles swept up avs this season-score 11-4. Isles move to 4 pts. out of w c with 6 teams to pass. And rags, habs both lost. I guess you can kiss that top 5 lottery pick good-bye. Scary to think what a hot isles team going into the 4 nation fk off break would do to louzers mind during the break? With time to burn louzer could contemplate how isles are a contender in his mind once again and do nothing or make a b s trade with first once again.
To make the playoffs, they will need to play this way consistently. They always go on a run when they're about to be broken up and either they just make or just miss the playoffs. Let's see what happens this year. Thanks for the comment, Steven and LGI.
This is the turn around the Islanders needed. Let's see what happens. Thanks Gil!!
