    The one place this company goes wrong is with Tutorial missions, or more specifically, the lack of. They really should put some time into a mission map to teach you the basics rather than just going "There's the game, bye"

      I did all my chores for the day, sat down to play Planet Coaster for the first time, clicked the Beginner scenario, got dumped in a small Pirate park and the game said "Okay, do the things."
      Erm......what things?
      "DO I NEED TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING!?"
      Could you explain *something*?
      "UUUUGGGHHHH here's the camera and move controls, now LEAVE ME ALONE!"
      I got so frustrated just trying to make a path work properly and having no idea how I was meant to accomplish the tasks it had given me I just quit the game. I felt reminded of my younger days renting a video game, finding it was rubbish and feeling my weekend was ruined. REALLY bad first impression this game gives.
      At least Planet Zoo seems to have tutorials to it.

    Another great tutorial. Even though I've been playing for a couple hundred hours, you always include a few tips I've missed along the way.
    Something you didn't mention in the terrain part of this video is that the textures actually have a 3D effect on the ground surface which increases with brush intensity or the duration of time the brush is over a spot of ground. For instance, the rock textures actually create lumps and cracks in the ground surface, some of the others build up underbrush, leaf litter, and even wildflowers.

    • @Geekism
      @Geekism  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wow, I didn't really realise the terrain brush was so nuanced ( I haven't really used it much, but people keep asking me to go over it :D) I can totally see why 'all brushes in all biomes' isn't a viable option now!

    • @TheBullethead
      @TheBullethead 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Geekism It really surprised me, too, but I find it quite useful. For instance, instead of piling up many dozens of boulder scenery objects, you can get most of the way to there with strenuous application of the texture brush. Then just need a few boulders, mostly to span gaps between dirt and paths.
      On another subject, thanks for the overview of work rosters,which I'd never figured out before. But once playing with them after watching this, I discovered that you don't need to use an entertainment point as a boundary between rosters. Any single bit of natural scenery (a bush, a rock, etc) beside the path will work. Sadly, neither benches nor bins, which really SHOULD count, are selectable when making rosters, but individual bushes are.

    I grew up playing and mastering Roller Coaster Tycoon when I was a kid, so to see this game and now actually playing it, is such a blast! I did remember alot of what I used in RCT to this game and def helped out a good chunk, but there was still alot of new things to pick up and use here.

    Thanks for the instructive video.
    On 14.55 you said you don't quite understood the difference between Push and Chizel.
    To explain the difference for Push and Chizel:
    Push will make a bulge like hole while Chisel push terrain back and cut it off. Causing to instead of a circle bulge hole to make sorta like a square hole. Side note: Crtl will not invert the Chisel. Only works with Push and Pull
    I often use it to create caves.

    How about cue lenghts? Determining how long the queue should be without knowing that the attraction you're building will be popular or not...

    • @Giondi
      @Giondi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually just try and estimate it by looking at the Fear stat. Look at your park's demographics, if you have more family groups your gentle rides will be more popular, more intense rides will be more popular with teens and adults. There isn't much downside to having slightly too long queues so make them a bit longer than you think you'll need and leave some space to expand them if you have to.

    Is there a way for the game to renember stuff or a place we can give feedback? I been working on the scenarios lately and it fustrates me when i try to decorate my park. I choose sort by a theme, place some stuff and exit the meny. Then i go to another place a little after and i have to select the filter each time i open the menu. Its very fustrating. And when i try to build a queue path it seems to default to the fastpass standard way pattern rater than renember the previous normal queue type i selected.
    One question more on the video though, you mentioned terrain. In one of the scenarios you could go on a ride underground and there was massive caves with tentacles and a kraken monster. How does one make those underground grottos working underground?
    And one more unrelated question. Is there a way to hide the planks that is holding up a wooden rollercoaster? I tried to build a massive one and all the wood holding up the coaster was cluttering up the screen to a point where it was almost impossible to build due to lack of vision. I know this was a feature in the old rollercoaster games and since this is the same team, i was hoping this is still an option or will become one.

    • @JoriDiculous
      @JoriDiculous 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You build the terrain around what ever you want to be in a cave, tunnel, hilltop etc. At least that is what i found least frustrating.
      You can delete support on the coasters. Its some option in the build (right side of screen) menu if im not mistaken.
      Yes, the game really should remember options and filters when you build/edit. Its so annoying to re-apply them. Especially since you need to go in and out of menus all the time.

    • @Geekism
      @Geekism  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jori has pretty much answered your questions :) Thanks Jori! But yeah, caves are just made with time and patience with the terrain tool. There's no 'hide supports' graphical option, but you can select a peice in the coaster build and change whether it's supports are shown. And yeah, it really should remember where youa re when you come out of build mode, hopefully they'll add that in the future :)

    This information really helps man. I'd love it if you made a tutorial for starting off in challenge mode. I've only made one challenge mode park so far but it didn't turn out so well. I think i made it too ambitious to begin with because i had like 5 shops, a toilet and 2 rides but i was l losing almost a grand a month. I keep wondering what i'm doing wrong.
    Is there a good way to balance out your profit-losses? I assumed more shops would mean more profit but i seem to be losing a lot more than people are spending. Is there a way to entice people to spend money at shops?

    • @Giondi
      @Giondi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have more than one of a shop type (food, drink, or souvenir) they compete with each other. If people go to Chief Beef they won't be hungry any more so they won't go to Pizza Pen, for example. Making a "food court" area loses you money in this game, especially at the beginning since there aren't many people in the park.
      Put shops close to the exits of your rides. Rides make people happy, and happy people spend more. You'll see people get off your rides and run right to your hat shop or whatever.

    I have downloaded and paid for the game and two add on packs via steam. Trying to get to grips with the game is a challenge in itself, however the ***** steam interface is unbelievably clunky and not intuitive at all for example it says my 2 DLC packs are in my library but they are not !!! Also if I download a small park and go to open it I get a message to either continue loading without the additional items or continue and download … that option hangs the computer … I have spent more time on messing with steam than playing the game and am starting to think I should have purchased from the App Store (Mac) I realise my post is off topic but do you use steam … I have raised a ticket with support but I feel that now they have had my money very quickly they are not that bothered sorting out new user issues. Apologies for the rant but listening to an English voice is preferable to an accent from across the Atlantic 😢

    What is the point of putting an entertainer in your park? As in how do the create revenue for your park? It seems to me that they just reduce your profits by having a wage you need to pay.

    The staff Problem is: They get staffed with 80 pay, and in my case they almost instantly quit jobs, unless I set that to around 200 or so. for workers on max level it's around 300-350... And for mechanics, I do the same as in RCT2, for each big coaster it needs a dedicated mechanic... Who ideally needs to sit in the station. Like with the top rated Steam workshop coaster, which runs around 5 minutes of realworld-minutes.

    Thanks, this was so helpful! I was getting really confused on which value to change (min or max. time) but this helped.

    You were slightly incorrect, janitors like raises of $20, so $120, $140, $160, $180, and $200 at max level.

    That's a great video. But I need help with vendors... My vendors just go on a break and close the shops. How do I make sure the shops are always open? Can anyone give me some tips please?

      Mrufka xyz you go to park management and go to hire staff click vendor and place the vendors where there needs to be vendors and then they should work
