I bought a 43 inch 4K OLED TV as monitor....the only thing what bothers me is "why did I not buy one earlier?" It's just perfect, the sharpness, the birghtness...just amazing. Office work is top notch, watching videos, movies of couse too and the initial reason why I bought one: photo editing is just a breeze. Everyone who is considering a 4K TV 43inch+ as a monitor and has enough space for it....just do it, you won't regret it
Who currently sells a 43 inch OLED? I sure as hell cant find one that exists currently.
@@josh8oh8 sorry, I meant QLED
@@josh8oh8 Looks like the LG C2 Will have a 42inch option coming out this summer.
I told people this 5 years ago
I am thinking about 55 inch Sony Bravia 4k led tv ..is it good idea or bad?
I've just moved from a triple 32" 2k monitor setup to s single 55" 4k LG OLED - and I'm loving it. From a work space perspective, everything is much cleaner now.
32 for gaming and editing is fine ?
i am single monitor user
It really is an incredible experience having the larger screen real estate
You hit the nail on the head: reassurance that this would work. I want to continue to do word processing and web browsing by with more real estate. For me, I would like two 24” screens in one, so a 48” TV screen seemed smart. I got the idea because it seemed “tv” screens seemed cheaper but promised 4K. My concern was the OLED, QLED, etc. issues that quite frankly confused me. At present I haven’t picked out a monitor yet. But this gives me hope I’m on the right track. Thank you. 😊
Just got the 48in one for doing web dev / audio production / ps5 gaming, thanks for making this to reassure this was a good idea.. Breaking it up into zones is absolutely key, but the default 4 quadrant thing where you can drag a window to each of the 4 corners of the monitor seems to be good enough for me. I have it on my desk right now but I'm planning on mounting it to the wall to get extra height and possibly pull the desk back a little bit futher. Also, I recommend turning on 'dark room mode' to keep the brightness in check, turning on low latency mode of course. I'm still getting a tiny bit of input lag though that I can see as I'm typing this.. not sure if there's anything else I can do about that.
Have been using a 55" Sony (non-OLED) - with a 32" QHD in portrait beside it - since Jan 2000. Other than adding some bias lighting and including "Power Toys" and "Region to share" to enhance my workflow, my biggest problem has been the location of my webcam and speakers....
Great vid. It describes my situation almost exactly and thoroughly convinced me to take the plunge. Currently running a 42" HDTV with a 20" on the side and it's damn near ideal. The only place it falls short is when playing driving games. I just bought a PS5 and plan to play a lot of GT7 and want that view to match the true to life scale as close as possible. Other than that the TV is mostly used as a PC monitor. I rarely watch TV or movies on this thing but I also have the option to sit further back on a couch at the other side of the office. 55" sounds like a pretty ideal option for all scenarios without being too overwhelming at a 3-4ft viewing distance.
Thanks for info. This has helped convince me to buy an OLED for my mac and for gaming. I trade on my computer and currently run 3 monitors. On a side note, I see you were editing a Chris Buck video! I've been watching his channel for years. He's a great guitarist.
Does it work well for trade
@@logu19 I'm waiting for January - LG are supposedly releasing a 43 inch OLED, which should be a good size for trading. It should be perfect. Effectively four windows on one monitor. I currently use a three monitor set-up. The only issue I can foresee is the glossy screen, but that's dependant on lighting of course.
Which software do you use for trading?
Hello, I am looking for a way to convert Living room into an office space and back to a living room space. Your video was a good start. Thanks!
I use the 43” dell, and will not go back to a smaller screen. 55” might be a bit big to see all of it from one position.
55 is a bit large. Consider desk depth and neck pain. 42 is pushing it.
Considering these 2 options right now, 55 inch oled or 43 inch qled at 100cm
You don't have to use all the screen for core activities...
What neck pain? Tilting your head back a bit so you can watch the top part of the screen and moving your head left and right is actually more beneficial for the neck, since we humans have more neck problems when tilting the head forward and not moving our head at all. Also, buy a chair with a headrest if that causes you some discomfort.
Any burn in from the white Windows border present when you shrink the screen to game?
I made the switch last year from Samsung 46 1000R curve to this 55 C3 and never looking back
You are a lucky man. Clearly Cost is no object. Congrats.
I'm considering to purchase a LG 55'' 138 cm QNED UHD 4K Smart TV for the same reason, as monitor. Would you think it is good? I mean not due to size, but quality and refresh rate.
CX 48 here since 2020, best experience so far, OLED FTW!
This is a pretty accurate review on this type of tv/monitor.. I have the 48" oled and I can concur on each point. I have ~15,500 hours on my OLED and no burn in. My next tv/monitor wiill be another OLED TV
I have an LG Oled 55 as well and sit about 3 feet away and I will say that it is excellent for productivity as I also like to keep many of my apps open and in view. I had a PG35vq and it got damaged while moving...... I went form a 200fps screen to a 120 on the Oled and though I am not a competitive game, I can feel the difference.
1 - 4K has more pixels that ultrawide
2 - No DP 1.4 on this and we are at HDMI 2.1 that has limit of 4K @ 120Hz.
As it is an Oled screen the image quality excellent and you can also watch TV :) So far I have had no issues with burn in but it has only been 6 months.
If you like to play FPS games, this might not be the optimal solution for you.
Hello there, quick question if you dont mind. I have the Oled LG 48" C3. But seems like my Logitech X512 plus is glitci, does not work as is should it lags or jumls takes me too long to acurate click into simething, so then I tried another cheap mouse , same issue. After doing research seems like I just have to keep on trying finding the correct HDI port to conect from my PC to TV?
I use a 24" 4K monitor at 100% scaling, dividing it into four 12" 1080p quadrants. It's like having four laptop screens.
I could see myself enjoying a 4K monitor up to 32 inches, but my desk can't handle two of those.
I have a second 24" 4K monitor on the left side of my desk that I only use when my VariDesk is raised, and I am walking on my LifeSpan desk treadmill. I place the same content on each monitor because I tend to be using one or the other, depending on whether I am sitting at the right side of my desk or standing and walking on the left side.
With a 55" TV as a monitor, I would want it to be 8K so I could just use it to replace both 4K monitors and then only raise my keyboard and mouse with a tray instead of raising everything with the VariDesk.
Thank you very much for this quality video, which reinforces my choice. I'm thinking of investing in a Panasonic OLED but I'm still hesitating between 42 and 55 inches. I suppose I'd have less of the "problem in the corners" with a smaller dimension and theoretically... more pixels per inch... is often better... especially at this viewing distance. Thanks again!
Just needed this video - yes was looking around for exactly the same question. Thx man
I love using my LG C1 OLED as a monitor. Games are so much more immersive. I got rid of my old 32" 1440p monitor years ago and switched it for a 4K, 60Hz TV. The C1 was a great update.
im using it as we speak and its awesome! win 11 enables 300% scaling so even 4k is usable now without Hussle.
for 5 years now i have been using a 35"ultrawide with a 27" on top, recently i smached my ultrawide and i now ended up buying a 48" oled just waiting for it to be delivered, im pretty sure i will be satisfied
I use a 55" QLED 4K Samsung curved TV as a monitor. Works great.
What about PPI? Isn't 55 inch going to show more granular pixels compared to a 43 inch 4K for example? I have a 43 inch and the picture is perfect, I don't see separate pixels when standing in front of it on my desk. I know I can just go to the store and see it myself, but I'm lazy xD
I love my 48 inch. Its perfect for my needs
I have the 55" TCL 4kUHD and I am so in love with it. I get 120fps and I have no issues. I am using a rtx 3060 graphics card so yes you will need a powerful GPU
What model TCL do you use? Is it an ips panel?
Hi good video. What settings do You have your LG set to.
I agree. Recently, my 27 acer monitor died. I got a 32in 4K TV as a test and I have really been enjoying the experience.
what was the life span on your acer 27 monitor
How would a mac mini do with a 55"?
Which TV should I choose for the monitor role, LG OLED 48C2 or TCL C765, like TCL C765 with matrix response time in dynamic games?
omg image using blender with 2 or 3 windows, that would be awesome!
i'm buying one tomorrow, i'll update how it feels for me ! :)
49" sounds appealing at first, but it sucks because of the cropped image on 32:9..... I used a 40" LG TV before, and it was wowww the only minus was only the 60Hz mode now I want to sell my G9 49" to but a TV 4K again because most of the games doesn't support Super Ultra Wide so USELESS.
great honest opinion. i did some browsing on latest 2021 tvs, i found the smallest 4K monitor is 43", might be the right size. also samsung Q60A is QLED (instead of OLED), claiming has more resistant to pixel burns. so i'm wondering now, would that be the best choice for pc monitor? i appreciate any opinion.
I've been using a 40" Samsung (~2017 QLED) for home and work (COVID) because the PPI (pixel resolution) at 40-43" is >100, so completely usable and a lot cheaper and prettier then most monitors at the time and price point.
My only reason for upgrading is I've gotten into video/photo color correction (hobby) and OLEDs (C1 or A80J) or ultra bright miniQLEDs (Samsung QN90a/TCL R646/Hissense U8G), offer brighter ( HLG/HDR) options, with greater contrast , but run 48-55".
Great review and thank you for that. Also thank you for a down-to-earth approach without fast camera movement, intruding music and other distractions.
The review is about toddler-age now, so 2 questions springs to mind:
Do you still consider this a good investment and has burn-in been a issue?
Hi thanks for your kind words, funny you should say toddler age as my son was born about a month before this review haha! Yep I’m still really happy with it and as of yet I’ve had no burn in issues, not a thing I would change 😃
@@ChrisWatkinsMedia Thanks for your video, I just found it as I was looking for information before I buy an 55" LG G2 TV. I am very curious about the exact setting you are using, and also how many hours is your TV on on a daily basis. It's very promising, that a 2020 model LG OLED TV is still free from any burn in issues, but I'm sure that it is at least partially due to your settings. This kind of experience would be very helpful for many people as more and more users are buying large, OLED TVs to use as monitor. It' s maybe even worth a short Video too, there's a lack of videos about such specific and long term experiences with OLED TVs and even less Info is available about 55" and B series OLED from LG regarding a usage as a monitor.
What about fonts and text? Im finding that the text is tough to read, like it all needs to sharpen a bit? Any clues?
I think I'll do 42" once Canada's pricing goes down (1500CAD vs 1000CAD in US....)
I'm worried about PPI even tho the size scares me less. 48 doesn't seem bad but I also just read a lot on it
how did you managed to work with 80~ (ppi? an 24" HD is about 93 ppi) do you see the pixels in this short distance ? thank you
HI Chris, what about the reflection off the TV screen as opposed to monitors which are all matt or anti-glare. So far I have not seen a TV which has matt display as the colours are less bright or vibrant. Rgds.
Yeah reflections are an issue. I work mainly in the dark so I don’t find it a problem but when I have my blinds up it is very noticeable.
Id love to see this now, with an 8K based model!
Anyone try or thoughts please.
I did that same damage to a Dell UltraSharp 43 4K just last week. Still gutted.
I've used 42" , 48", and 55" oled as pc monitors over the last 10 years. For me the perfect size was 48".
I use a 50" qled. It's great, but these big screens badly need a curve. The 55" Ark is the only real option out there now.
Other than playing minecraft I use a controller for every game but the power toys app is exactly what I needed to know about before I go fully into this. My tv of choice is going to be the q70a for its price and quality.
Thats awesome. I did tried hooking up my PC to my LG oled 48" C3. But my mouse is glitchi, jumps arounds or is not working properly. I been doing some research and seems like I need to change it to an HDI port that has more HZ? Ilm try alm my 4 HDI ports today see wich ome works best.
Might need to change your HDMI wire. I was only getting 30hz with my ONN branded HDMI. Switched to a 4k HDMI cable and unlocked 60hz on my mac.
My friend please help, I've recently bought a 52 inch TV and I've adjusted every setting both on PC and the TV and it will not fit the screen at all
thanks for this, you gave me a wonderful idea, I shall use it as a ultrawide monitor
And is burn-in a problem with this monitor?
great video, thx! I am considering 55 inch oled TV - and will go for it. cheers!
I don't see a difference between multiple big monitors and multiple big windows. Grats OLED 4k is sooo amazing to game on.
What TV is he using ? I can't find where he tells us, C3? G3?
I'm still using a 1080p Samsung TV for Davinchi resolve without issues 😊👍
Resist the urge as long as you can, once you try 4K it will be there to stay 😊
@@ChrisWatkinsMedia ha, well my gpu can handle it so that's no issue, it's actually deskspace in my cottage which is the real issue! Plus I'm happy to still film in 1080 so thankfully don't have a pressing need! 😊
Exactly what I was looking for!
How do people avoid burn in using it as a monitor?
Thanks, Chris, for the very educational video!...IMHO-more efficient with 55" TV than three 27" monitors!
Why not 77”?
Why does HD suck on this? Does the upscaler suck?
I have a BX 55 and it won't stay full screened playing games. Keeps popping out. Any suggestions?
I'm thinking about replacing my 34 inches curved LG monitor with the Dell 55 4K First time viewing your channel, and I subscribed. Thanks for doing the video sure this will help me decide.
did you?! what is experience?
Which t if wall mounted 6 feet away?
What is your desk?
Have tried to connect my windows computer to my LG OLED TV. All I get is the desktop background and audio. For instance when I play this video on my TV the audio comes from the TV while the video is displayed on the monitor. The only thing on the TV is the background, menu bar, and audio. No desktop icons, no apps on the menu bar just the Windows menu. I can select the menu Windows Logo and it shows the menu but, when an app is selected it runs on the computer but, the audio come from the TV while the video plays on the computer monitor. this is my second attempt to make this work, to no avail. has anyone else experienced this and found a fix?
OH FFS!!! I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!!!! SAME ELECTRIQ 49!! So.... Got an 86" for my living room now, and will use the old TV. I actually have 2 computers and a KVM switch to keep jumping betweent Linux and Mac and WIndows.
How do you connect from MacBook/laptop to the 4K 55 inch TV?
Usb c -> hdmi
does this work well on Mac as well?
Yes if I have enough distance between it, so the question should be do you wanna upgrade to a 55" monitor and deeper desk.
i am having a problem with light dimming. do you have that problem? what cable do you use ?
It’s something to do with the energy saving settings, I’m away at the moment but can let you know exactly when I’m back
@@ChrisWatkinsMedia i have it turned off but still :/
i do alot of multitasking. this was the best option till the NEW samsung Arc was out this year...
i own a neo g9..but looks like the Arc solves alot of viewing angle issue like u said at the end of the video
I am considering this Tv as a monitor and main use for photo/video editing. Removing three monitors to just one screen will tidy up the desk plus less real-estate. Do you color calibrate or is it fine as is? I own a datacolor Spider X calibrator if I should need to calibrate it. Like how your videos are done and informative.
Thanks for the comment, they are super colour accurate out of the box but I is probably still worth calibrating. Photo and video editing is an absolute joy on this tv especially paired with fancy zones.
Great video, thanks. But you didn't mention why you go the 55" instead of the 48" or did I just miss it?
I might not have mentioned it, I like the 55 because I wanted to replicate he amount screen real estate I already had.also the 48 was actually more expensive the time of filming. They are the only reasons really, glad youliked the video ;)
@@ChrisWatkinsMedia I'm in between the 48inch and the 55inch C1. So if given the choice right now would you still get the 55inch? Can it be more ideal than a 48 in some ways?
@@alphamonkey56 it depends on the depth of your desk. Mine is 60cm and I kind of wish I was just slightly further away… if I were to do it again I would probably go for the 48
@Chris Watkins Media I use the 55 for main, and I have a 600mm deep desktop, so I actually cut 200mm off of a spare top and put that between the wall and other top. 600mm is just too close, and I find I sometimes get a little nauseas playing fast-paced shooters.
Any thoughts on using a LG B2 vs C2 as Monitor?
can you a source for your wallpapers please? thx
Would 65" be a bridge too far? It's like 4 x 32" monitors
Personally I wouldn’t go bigger than a 55 inch
What about text clarity for office work?
Spot on!
Okay you just convinced me to try this out. I do have a question though. Why are your windows color not just black? Wouldn't that remove the white bar when gaming in windowed mode ( 5:57 )
Thank you for making this video. I am in a similar situation, where my ultra-wide 49" monitor went out. The price of an OLED 48 & 55" tv makes it hard to justify the price of the newer higher end ultra-wides like the 49" Samsung AG900 Neo G9 at $1799. I can get a 48" Sony OLED 120hz with at least 1 HDMI 2.1 for $950. I was on the fence between a 48" and 55". I could accommodate either size but when you mentioned full screen gaming, that was one of my biggest concerns. I only sit 25-29" away from the screen and I don't like gaming in windowed mode. You have helped me decide on going with a 48" is probably a better fit for me.
Thanks for the video. What would you say about 65" TV, but with longer sitting distance? My idea is to have a single screen instead of TV + Monitor
Same here. How far do you think you should sit?
I was using my 55 inch LG C1 OLED TV as a monitor for a month before fear of burn in scared me into a INNOCN 4K Mini LED TV that really gives me close to the same image without the fear of display destroying burn in. I don’t recommend using an OLED display unless its designed to be a monitor that keeps all objects on the display moving to prevent burn in.
an lg c1 literally has that option
I been using LG 65NU70 for 2 years.. 65 inch !!
Triple monitor setup currently but definitely would like to test
Thanks for the info verry useful
What’s the width of your desk? Thinking of grabbing one but not sure if my current desk (24in wide) will not be wide enough for it, at least comfortably. Thanks!
Hi Chris, just wondering if you still feel the same 1 year later, as i plan to buy this tv for all pc purposes including editing, COD Warzone, other gaming, general pc usage also. I have an I7 with RTX 3080ti video card setup. I value your video and thoughts, along with anyone else's opionions who have the same tv. Thanks!
Here I have a Lg 8k 75 in with a rtx4060 and wow , you can see so many windows
Hi ; i switched from a 32 inch monitor to the Lg C2 42 inch i was scared it Wohlfahrt be to big but no, best choice i mad but now im thinking to switch to a 55 inch Might be to big hmm i sit 3,5 feet away
I have an LG G1 that's sitting in my upstairs closet collecting dust and I'm really considering using it as a monitor BUT I have a Sony A7Siii camera over the center of my 27" monitor and I'm worried I wouldn't be able to get my camera where I want it.
32 for gaming and editing is fine ?
i am single monitor user
did you get any burn yet?
But how to use it without cpu ???
Is it possible to install windows os or mac os on tv ???
LOL
Ok this might be the smartest thing I've ever thought of........ So i recently got in to pcs but I've realized that a whole desk for a 27 inch monitor and a pc simply not fit In my room so i thought why don't I get a bed table with wireless equipment for the pc and use it on my bed and I believe 120hz is enough for gaming I also bought the LG c1 55 so what do you all think smart idea or no......
what about Philips Momentum 559M1ryv 55
ok 55 will be my next upgrade instead of the planned 42
If work is what your doing on the monitor then why not just buy a 55" desktop monitor instead of compromising? The big desktop monitors exist. Even a conference monitor would match the native color gamuts like sRGB and Adobe RGB better than a television?
What is the distance from your eyes to the TV 55"? And what dimensions does your desk have? I am interested in the LG C1 48" with a desk of 200x96cm
My eyes are about 90cm from the screen and my desk is 60cm deep. I was worried it wasn't going to work but all seems fine :)
@@ChrisWatkinsMedia Thanks for the information! The LG Oled TV stand takes about 25cm on the desk in the deep of the 96cm wide Desk of mine. And my eyes could be 90cm away from the screen too. The only thing, I read about burn-in in the first 2 years and shortly after 2 years of using or later from customers. Thats the only thing, which looks maybe it isnt longstanding specially using it as a monitor instead as a TV only. For my only for office, reasearch, music listening and Movies/ Series.
@@ChrisWatkinsMedia What about the automatic brightness limiter (ABL) from LG to protect the Oled screen? I have read that the color white is shown as grey. Maybe I would be fine with it, but I also read that it goes high and low on the white color everytime and first its brightness white than it needs seconds to low the brightness and change to grey. How is it, how fast from white to grey and noticable? And is it switching a lot from white to grey? Only through browsing and word?
Great video
Would you recommend the 48” or 55” would there be a difference? I wanna use on my ps5,pc
I want answers, I am tempted for 55 inch and I am worried it would be overkill for PC Desktop setup ...
@@vijayaprabu6669 I got the 55 it comes Saturday I’ll let ya know
@@vijayaprabu6669 too late but i kinda want to answer. I have been using 55' for almost 5 years. It is not overkilled. It was kinda weird from 32' to 55' at first, but once you got used to it, you can't ever go back. Tried to use my mom's PC with 24' monitor because I needed to install win 11 for her, and I hated the small screen lol
I build a computer desk 6 feet long, 2 feet deep, with a cabinet on the back. I'm trying to find out how tall the monitor will be?
29 inch with the stand.
I'm currently thinking about getting a 48" LG C1 and putting portrait 27" monitors left and right since it should be exactly the same height, but I also think I'm crazy
Oooooo I like your style!!! On two arms angled towards you would be stunning! 😬😬😬
Criss hi
I consider to buy LG OLED C2 48/55 inch TV as PC monitor TOO.
And like you, I need larg screen, displaying simultaneously open documents, to work on their textual content.
I ask you if 48 or 55 inch OLED, will give me the crispness and sharpness of text, in regular phont size, using the TV with the same distance as I would use regular PC monitor, say 24/32 inch. It is just very hard to perform the test in a shop technically.
I would appreciate if you share with me your experience in this textual direction, helping me to take the decision. And on the same line, would 55 inch be too gross pixels to yield the sharpness and crispness of the letters, without straining my nose and eyes too much to "decypher" the text with two pairs of glasses...
Thanx for your advice (in Addvance)
Geri Reshef, israel
Hi Geri, yes as long as you use the correct HDMI port then text would be just as clear as on a pc monitor. I made the mistake of using the wrong HDMI port the first time i plugged mine in and I thought I had made a huge mistake. It is honestly perfect and I dont think it would matter which size you went for I think they would both be very similar.
yeah its hard to use anything other than my 55in 144hz monitor
