From rtings (for C2) "For an optimal PC .... experience and proper chroma 4:4:4 support, it's important to set the input icon to 'PC' for the HDMI port you are using." Input button > Home Dashboard > Edit Inputs > click on the HDMI port icon to the side of the desired input. I'm not a gamer so I haven't used the Game Optimizer settings.
A great hint to get almost retina like text on a Mac, use a USB-C to HDMI cable and set the resolution to 3008x1692, sure it's a little larger than normal, but much clearer. BTW, Activity Monitor says the resolution is 6016x3384 (same resolution as the XDR) but scaled.
Addendum... switching to "PC input" actually made a *considerable* difference! It was especially noticeable on music writing software like Sibelius... So thank you again! Now it will be even easier to work and then quickly go to wasting time on my PS5!
Switching the input to PC mode gives you the opportunity to use the Chroma RGB 4:4:4 120Hz in 4k + reducing the input delay, which greatly, very much affects the positive experience of use. Absolutely must do.
Does the TV keep the PC mode once set up also when unplugging the PC? I ask since I want to use it with a notebook and don't see myself toggle this setting on every time I plug my Notebook into the TV. Thanks for the Help 😉
I was surprised that this (the fact that mouse lag is usually significant) was not mentioned. I bought a Samsung Odessey 55. Mouse lag is significant. In game mode it's much better but then the colours are completely, weirdly over-saturated. (Sending it back)
Just bought a LG C3 48" today as a computer monitor, and I will say I love it... I got a swivel mount coming with install this upcoming week to watch it in bed at night as well... honestly your video really helped my decision making... thank you!
When your graphics card kicks in does it change the color of the TV as if it's going into a different color mode? I have an old Sony that does that and have considered getting the c3. How do fonts look on it?
I use a Caldigit box that acts like a dock for my Macbook Pro. It has a Display Port on the back. I then bought a high quality cable that is Display Port at the source, and HDMI at the screen. By one that supports HDMI 2.1 and 48Gbps. That worked like a champ! Also, great info in this video. Thank you! Loved the hard-coded numbers for switching between inputs.
Just got a LG Oled TV, I came back to this bookmarked video and rewatched on the quick switch inputs and booting up faster tweaks! Highly appreciate this! :)
JUST bought an LG C2 and love it. Just to add to the tips: If you're experiencing flickering or screen tearing w/ an OLED LG TV and use GSYNC, it's unfortunately a hardware issue involving changing gamma curves in VRR. The panel can't change gamma curves fast enough if framerates change quickly w/ GSYNC. The only solution is to turn if off. In the week that I've own mine using it for both work and gaming, it's happened 3 times, curiously only while I was watching YT. I disable it when using the desktop and enable it during games, and from what I've read pairing the LG C2 w/ a 3080 TI makes sure those fast framerate changes don't happen frequently. It's something to consider. Gaming w/o GSYNC isn't a bad experience at all, and assuming you have stable framerates in your system you should be perfectly fine if you can run > 80 FPS regardless.
My main monitor is a 27 inch 1440p ips, you think it's worth it upgrading to a lg c2? I have a 4090 so I was thinking of upgrading monitors since I can drive that resolution and 4k 120 now
@@ashouaxiong1404Absolutely yes. 3080 TI here. Just 4k 60fps is worth it. I would wait though, I got it at Best Buy for $800 for the 42" version. It's way better than the Neo G7 or Neo G8. Didn't buy them, just saw them at the store and didn't think they were good enough value for the cost.
It should be fixed, Pronto. It's a verified feature, and partly why I bought it. If it's not working correctly, then it should be a top priority to fix and it's bullshit that it's not. I paid for a feature that's broken.
I’m not sure if someone has mentioned it till now. But 4k@120hz and 10bit color works with all m1 and above macs using a specific usb c to hdmi adapter and firmware. You need to have a cable matters 8k usb c to hdmi2.1 adapter with vmm7100 chip. Using this also fixes the issue with the input type switching when disconnected. I have a 42 c3 and 14” m1 works awesome now at 120hz and 10bit.
@@JugheadJonesIII It will work on any mac with m1 or above with the adapter, if you have an m2 pro or m3 hdmi 2.1 support is built in so it will just work out the box
@@AbdanSyakuro-jb1qb i have a 160x60 desk but its a bit narrow I would suggest 80cm depth or 70 at least. 60 becomes a bit close so i have to keep the keyboard and mouse on the edge. I will upgrade to a 160x80 soon.
Thank you for this video. Switching the HDMI input mode to PC fixed a massive mouse pointer lag that I was experiencing when connecting my MacBook to my LG 43" TV. Subscribed.
Hey man nice tips for helping out those getting started with LG OLEDs. Just wanted to mention something that took me months to learn for the tip of turning screen off. When you use the TV with game mode (in a PC or Console) the quick settings menu is replaced by a gaming mode settings and you have no access to the turn off screen option anymore. To get it back AND keep the game mode on, you have to go to Settings > All Settings > General > Game Optimizer > Game Dashboard and turn it off. And if you need to go back to the game dashboard, just add a quick settings shortcut for it (has the icon of a gamepad) Now you have the best of both worlds! :)
For disabling the auto-dimming. I have a C3 so I had to enable the hidden menu and do the step mentioned. It works but then I can no longer control brightness from the standard menu and I have to play around with the advance menu and it doesn't seem to play well ... I've just reset it to standard ... disabled "eco mode" and set to PC / gaming mode and it's really not that bad ... I prefer that then having a static high brightness that is pretty annoying to change manually.
Thanks, Ahnestly, for the valuable tips!...Just purchased a 55" Sony TV as a PC monitor and will be using a monitor arm on a sit/stand electric desk...
if you've got an m2 pro Mac mini it can do 120 hertz and HDR. I'm using it right now with my c1 and it's amazing. So m2 pro models and later should be good 👍🏾
You get the best of both worlds with using a OLED for a TV and a monitor. The infinite contrast is amazing and burn in is not a big issue anymore as long as you use it wisely.
Cool video. Quite informative and comprehensible. You only made quite a leap at 8:50. Without explaining how or why DHCP and the router has anything to do with auto on/off of the pc to monitor connection...isnt that hdmi, dp or usb-c connection? I guess, I am probably not the only one who doesn't fully grasp that concept. maybe you can explain it better, because you teased an important point, that could make a difference in a buying decesion, at least for me.Thanks for the video.
It's been a real struggle finding a 42" - 48" that's decently affordable. It seems like all the sales target 55" and 65" TVs that would be just... too much for a monitor.
Ouh man this video is awesome. Bought a lg oled a weaks ago and i am very impessed to use it as a monitor on my pc. with this settings you show here its even a better xperience 🤩👍
Thanks a bunch for the video. From everything online you are the only one mentioning the LGTV Companion. Super Much Appreciated!!! Ordered mine a few hours ago 😁!
We just got a big 65 inch 4k LG C3 for the living room now I REALLY want to get either a 42 inch or LG's new 32 inch oled 4k 240hz gaming monitor or both for my room/desk. :)
I'm looking to get a 55" OLED TV to use as a trading computer. As in you can have multiple screens of various sizes on it, but typically 4 screens. A really good use for traders.
I think this is the first trend Ive seen a bunch of people online do that I actually want to take part of. I used my 50 inch tv as a monitor for a bit and it kicked butt. Just had to put two desks together.
The best method of connecting an external monitor to the m1 (M1 Max in my case but even applies to the common m1) is to use one of the thunderbolt 4 ports. I've seen some video demonstrating the use of an adapter + HDMI 2. My advice however is to use a Display Port 1.4 and a DP 1.4->USB C cable (thunderbolt 3 or 4) and that supports 8K. This way, you will have 4K in a 120Hz refresh. In my case, I use a 5K (5120x1440) monitor with 120Hz. I believe it achieves a full 4K and 120Hz resolution even though it is a TV. Attention! The cable is very important and probably the cable that comes with the TV or monitor needs to be updated. When it comes to cables and adapters, sin by the excess: choose something that supports between 5K and 8K with the best refresh rates.
I don’t think this works. TVs don’t have usb c or display port, so you’re talking about going from hdmi 2.1 to DP to tb4. Apple has limited the speeds on their end through weird software limitations, so 4k 120hz is not possible atm
@@Ahnestly have you tried CalDigit TS3 Plus as a docking station configuration? It says 5k display with 60Hz is possible. The main difference is that CalDigit is using Thunderbolt connection, which is very different to normal USB-C connectors.
@@Ahnestly HDMI 2.1 is 48Gbit/s. It exceeds the Thunderbolt 40Gbit/s speed which is why you can't run 4K120 using the TB4 or TB4 ports. This is only an issue on the M1 devices. The M2 devices with an HDMI port come with HDMI 2.1 You can run DP1.4 at 4K120 as it runs it within the Thunderbolt speeds. For M1 devices a TV is not an option for this if you want to get the full refresh rate capable. M2 devices on the other hand can just go HDMI to HDMI and get it. It isn't a software limitation. The M1's with HDMI have the older HDMI 2.0 port installed with the slower bandwidth; it is hardware. Fortunately there are alternatives out that you can run over DP1.4, like the LG Ultra Gear 48in OLED or the Aorus 48in OLED. There are also 42in OLED monitors from KTC, INNOCN, and ASUS. They all us various versions of the LG OLED displays. I believe the KTC and INNOCN use the latest ones you will see on the LG C2 and C3 monitors.
I have a c2 42 and use a custom resolution on it. Basically a 21:9 1600p resolution. This works really well, 5k2k would of course be better, but still it works.
A very detailed presentation. I am not one for always clicking the Thumbs Up (Like) buttons, but you are very knowledgeable and present your information in a logical, easy to understand (common sense) approach. Thank you for a great informational video.
Woah! This means a lot! Thank you so much for the kind words and moreso for taking the time to do something you don't normally do for a stranger like me!!
I used TVs as monitors too, and because I lean back while working, I ditched my 48 and 55inch Samsungs for 2x65 inch, and that allows true use of 4k res without scaling everything! I'll never go back to a small monitor ever again.
thing abt monitoring (audio/video, pics) is that it can present actual media created by owners device, not real life, if theirs bad itll look/sound bad, think this need to be straightened
I use dual 40" TV (regular 1080p) and it works great. Biggest problem with viewing bigger TVs (50" or more) on desk is the angle you are watching when looking at tv's corners. If you are looking at corner content, you are viewing it at 45 degrees and you have to move your whole body to see it well, which makes it useless. My viewing distance is about 1 meter, which gives me plenty of desk space for hardware projects.
I have the 75 inch TV//monitor. My stand is a heater fireplace with built in sound bar I don't use. Playing PlayStation 5 in 4k is epic I have it on the legs. The included legs stood strong in an earthquake
Haha, I used a 55 inch Hisense H9G for my monitor with a Mac mini for over a year now. I notice the Mac mini tends to be a little slower when editing video. Upgrading to Mac Studio for Christmas. For my SetUp I have rolling TV stands with a standing Desk. I think I sit about 3-4 ft away and I love it. I can edit my movies and have a good TV to view video quality
i juist bought a brand new 65 inch 4K Onn TV and CLX gaming computer along with a power supply. around $3000 after all said and done. After a few days of everything working just fine. Now I am setting with a TV with no signal from the PC. CLX Rayzon 9 5900X 12 core and GForce 3060
I've got mine almost touching the wall i cut down the bottom stand and it still sits there rock solid as the monitor has a natural lean forward so the front frame works perfectly
Yes, I have an issue and I hope to find a solution. When I connect my computer to the LG G1 TV, everything works fine except when I play a video, whether it's through movie players or TH-cam. The video is not smooth; it has a ghosting effect as if the frame rate is very low, even though the TV has a 120Hz refresh rate and 4K resolution. This issue does not appear in games, only in videos
Just picked up the C2 42". I sit about 32" away. My desk is 27.5 inches deep. I'm going to buy a 31.5 inch deep desk. (My current desk is like 20 years old). Gonna also hang it off the back a little more. Still getting used to the size.
Bought a lg c2 48in (on sale) and size is great, gaming is great and everything is great. set up lgcompanion to turn off and on with wifi and works great. Was a huge step up from the old plasma 42in that was 15 years. and made sense to use as a monitor also in my case. Burn in isnt an issue if drop a few nits on brightness. (max brightness gaming 8000hr or 3 years if such can cause burn in) Retention can happen but also vanish fast. Oled tech means think the more off and lower brightness the longer it lasts.
@@umunnacharles53721080p is exactly 1/2 as wide and 1/2 as tall as 4K. For a game running in 1080p one pixel will be 4 pixels from the TV so it'll still look great. 1440p not so much cause it won't line up
Thank you so much for all the useful tips mate, the quick access tip @11:40 alone deserves more than one thumb up, also the recommended/referenced viewing distance at the beginning of the video immediately solved my nauseous feeling, just started using my C2 42" today and currently waiting for my HX arm to arrive, I am so glad I found your video here, THE best video about using LG OLED TV as monitor advice out there, thanks again!
I've had my 42" C2 for a little while now. Love the picture. I just finished building my new PC, however, I can't get it to display any picture at all on the C2. It's as if no input is even plugged in. Everything turns on and the fans and RGB on the case, GPU, RAM, and cooler all work fine. Looks great, but no display! I've been trouble shooting for a week now to no avail. I've popped the CMOS and drained the power, tried booting from the integrated graphics, did bios flashback again on the Z690 for 13th gen, all kinds of stuff. Unfortunately, I don't have a single other monitor to test the new build with to see if it will post. My old monitor only has a DVI connection and I don't have a converter. I've heard that some displays won't first post on certain 4k monitors or TVs, and you first need to set up windows, the drivers, and the resolution first. I have no idea why that would be, as it sort of defeats the purpose of using it as a monitor, but I'm hoping I can find a solution soon. I have thousands of dollars worth of stuff just sitting, waiting to be used...every day I can't get it working I start sweating more and more lol
Couple tips: make sure you’re plugged into the graphics card and NOT the motherboard video out. get another 2.1 hdmi cable - I’ve had a ton of cable issues over everything else
@@Ahnestly Thanks. The 2.1 cable works on other devices. What I just discovered is that the system posts when I finally plugged it into a different TV. My guess is that, for some reason, the C2 wants the system to already be set up with windows, drivers, etc before displaying a picture. A week of useless troubleshooting just to have everything work on a different display. Hoping I don't run into problems with the C2 once I get everything set up on my other display.
So what I noticed is that different cables cause different issues. I bought some fancy DisplayPort cable one time and it would never show the display until after the bios screen had passed. Then I use some cheapo plane Jane dp cable, and it showed up right away. It might be worth trying out a different hdmi 2.1 cable!
I bought a Logitech network remote second hand. Now I can send any remote command from my PC. One button on my stream deck turns it on or off. Starting the pc sends a signal to turn tv on. Expanding on that the coming weeks. Many more equipment and possibilities to explore.
Thanks for the video. Being an avid fan of LG OLEDS (Have one in my living room) I was planning to buy the smaller C2 as a monitor. Seeing the challenges you have you def. saved me a lot of headache.
I have a cable that supports 4k 120hz its usb c to hdmi 2.1, maybe you can also try with that cable and the resolution you have to set in macbook settings. I find sometimes if you use mac in clamshell mode the text gets sharper and feels like you are using macbook at a large canvas with no difference
What do you recommend for a MacBook Pro 16 inch M1 Pro? When I tried the Sony oled Bravia to my MacBook Pro I notched a significant lag between my computer and the tv oled , thank you for the wonderful video 😇
Was actually looking for lg tv as monitor just few hours before this video. Either that or I gotta get some curved Alienware. Not many oled options out there
The LG OLEDs are NASTY!!! I love'em so much...and I just watched a national park documentary on it with the kiddos last night and fell in love all over again lol
I'd also recommend turning energy savings off. I've been using mine for over half a year, still love it. I use mine on the hx monitor arm where I put it down for monitor use and since my couch is pretty close to my desk, I then raise it and pull it forward to use as a TV.
Enjoyed your video as you touched some very crucial points which no one else did… like issues with mac.. I am looking to change to a bigger monitor than 32” … either a 40” or 49” ultrawide or OLED TV… primarily office work with one small section used for watching videos. Please suggest
I havent used my new Mac studio with a TV yet, but when I switched between my Samsung and LG tvs with my Mac Mini, the Samsung did seem to be more compatible with the Samsung, same with our Ipads.
Great in-depth video. Do you have more guidance on graphics cards? I have a work-issued laptop and don’t know if it will be sufficient to work with a TV as a monitor.
You can pretty much use any pc/laptop with this, but as noted, if it doesn’t have a graphics card with hdmi 2.1, then you won’t be able to get 120hz. If you’re working at a typical place and not some gaming studio or heavy graphics card usage type company…it may not be the best configuration to use that laptop with this screen
enjoyed your video! really informative and helpful! I have not yet owned a C2 yet but im likely gonna pull the trigger on it on the upcoming black friday! cant wati!
Hey man you were super helpful with this video thank you very much. Seriously. And screw all the trolls with pointless inputs that add no value. Thanks again man!
very useful tips for who are going to buy OLED especially LG, however you mentioned that you have a sony as well. Why don't you make a comparison video for it? I easger to check it if you have a chance. Thanks.
I don’t have a Sony. I said I have LG, which is why I know more LG tips than Sony. From what I saw when I made this video, Sony does not have nearly as much market share in the pc monitor space, so didn’t see many apps for it. Things could have changed bc it’s been like a year!
Looking to enter the Gaming PC world. Three questions, is it possible to use my existing 77in CX utilizing your current steps? I currently have both next gen consoles, media players connected via AVR. Would i have to direct connect to TV or can I connect via AVR via HDMI? What would the minimum configuration requirements be for the gaming pc to run sports games (Madden/2k/etc.) smoothly?
Thanks for the video, great info! I just picked up an LG C4 42”. It is nice and bright but when I play Doom Eternal, it can’t seem to keep up with my movement, it is choppy. I’ve got an i7-13700, 64G ram, and a 4080 Super. It runs great on my 4k 240hz monitor. Is there anything I can do? I love the size and brightness of the TV
i've got a 50" lcd tv with a less than 20" eye distance sitting at the desk because somehow, in 2023, autocad still doesn't anti-alias text and you need to be able to see individual pixels in order to read anything. wall mounts are your freind in getting the screen nice and close.
So I think having one big monitor has its pros and cons, with the biggest con being that it’s harder to “compartmentalize” your work compared to a multi-monitor setup. Even though the screen is huge, it’s still not the same as having, for example, one screen for video editing and another for file management. At 42”, it’s still too big to get a second monitor on your desk, so I would much rather opt to get the biggest single monitor possible, which for me, is 48”. Hope that makes sense! Please use my links :) it helps the channel a LOT!!’
@@Ahnestly It makes perfectly sense! I'm using the C1 at 48 inch as well and I think its perfect. The only problem is that I wish I had a deeper desk but thats not a problem of the tv. Thanks fot the video!

Addendum... switching to "PC input" actually made a *considerable* difference!
@@JiriRose No. PC mode is tied to a port HDMI. I have a PC mode with a PC, and in the Netflix application, for example, some other.
Thank you! Loved the hard-coded numbers for switching between inputs.
my mama would give me the chancla for sitting that close to the tv. Dunno if i should do this i feel the chancla incoming

Just got a LG Oled TV, I came back to this bookmarked video and rewatched on the quick switch inputs and booting up faster tweaks! Highly appreciate this! :)
hope you have a great experience, im planning on getting one myself and have this video on "will need later" playlist
I run 144 fps.
Does gaming at 1080p on the lg c2 still look crisp?
I've had a 48" LC C1 as my main monitor for about a year now and it's been GREAT. Best display I've ever owned. I won't be going back.
audio and monitors are 1 way journey bro
I’m not sure if someone has mentioned it till now. But 4k@120hz and 10bit color works with all m1 and above macs using a specific usb c to hdmi adapter and firmware. You need to have a cable matters 8k usb c to hdmi2.1 adapter with vmm7100 chip. Using this also fixes the issue with the input type switching when disconnected. I have a 42 c3 and 14” m1 works awesome now at 120hz and 10bit.
i am thinking of buying a mac mini just for the sake of using mac ecosystem ( i have alienware laptop) .. will this work on mac mini..???
@@JugheadJonesIII It will work on any mac with m1 or above with the adapter, if you have an m2 pro or m3 hdmi 2.1 support is built in so it will just work out the box
What is your desk setup? I am considering to buy this 42c3 and still confused about the right desk for it
@@AbdanSyakuro-jb1qb i have a 160x60 desk but its a bit narrow I would suggest 80cm depth or 70 at least. 60 becomes a bit close so i have to keep the keyboard and mouse on the edge. I will upgrade to a 160x80 soon.
What firmware are you talking about here? I am trying to make this work😅

Thanks for this video ! I just bought an LG Flex which is basically a C2 with flex and somme tweaks, and your tips worked perfectly !
SICKKK!! Hope you love it!
One of the most useful TH-cam videos I have watched recently. Thanks for all the great tips!
So m2 pro models and later should be good 👍🏾
so mac mini m2 should work fine ..??? i am thinking of buying one..???
You have by far the best channel name I've ever seen. Love it!
You get the best of both worlds with using a OLED for a TV and a monitor. The infinite contrast is amazing and burn in is not a big issue anymore as long as you use it wisely.
can you share some tips to avoid burn in?

LOL I remember going full screen on one of my video's once...I'm still traumatized 😂
That LG Companion app is an OLED saver!!! Thanks so much.
It seems like all the sales target 55" and 65" TVs that would be just... too much for a monitor.
lg A2 oled, 599 at best buy right now
A2 has 60hz refresh rate. I would not recommend if you’re doing more than console gaming

Oh you mean it's good for people who buy high and sell low? That's my middle name!
The M2 devices with an HDMI port come with HDMI 2.1
You can run DP1.4 at 4K120 as it runs it within the Thunderbolt speeds.

You work at a desk with 2 65" monitors? This I need to see! 0.o
be mindful if its for work, prob 1080 is actually the correct choice since many source are 1080, and you certainly dont want to flip an 42" oled

woot woot! Glad it helped!
This is one of the best explanation video I’ve seen. Clear, honest and easy tips.

This issue does not appear in games, only in videos

set up lgcompanion to turn off and on with wifi and works great.
Was a huge step up from the old plasma 42in that was 15 years.
and made sense to use as a monitor also in my case.
Burn in isnt an issue if drop a few nits on brightness.
(max brightness gaming 8000hr or 3 years if such can cause burn in)
Retention can happen but also vanish fast.
Oled tech means think the more off and lower brightness the longer it lasts.
I wanna know how gaming on 1080p looks like on the LG C2, my graphics card isn't powerful enough to push 4k
@@umunnacharles53721080p is exactly 1/2 as wide and 1/2 as tall as 4K. For a game running in 1080p one pixel will be 4 pixels from the TV so it'll still look great. 1440p not so much cause it won't line up

13:00 I feel like I "dodged a bullet" here! Thanks for pointing that out, was about to purchase one of these "monitor/tv" things :/
I believe the latest announced macs have HDMI 2.1 and SHOULD prevent this from happening!

If you’re working at a typical place and not some gaming studio or heavy graphics card usage type company…it may not be the best configuration to use that laptop with this screen

i've got a 50" lcd tv with a less than 20" eye distance sitting at the desk because somehow, in 2023, autocad still doesn't anti-alias text and you need to be able to see individual pixels in order to read anything. wall mounts are your freind in getting the screen nice and close.
