Great review Jamie. The SL7 is probably the reel with the most GTs ever. Remember they were used as rentals in the Seychelles, spent 270 days a year on the water with minimal cares given.

Surely modern drags are sealed and cork is obsolete?

The problem is that not all sealed drags are created equally (and of course, not all cork drags are created equally. The sealed drag on a Mako is incredible, whereas the sealed drag on a cheap Chinese 12wt will surely let you down.
The fact is there's a lot less that can go wrong with Shilton's setup. It might not be the smoothest, or adjust from no drag to full drag in one turn, but it's reliable and can be cleaned easily. If you look at where you go and catch these kinds of fish, that's a massive plus point.

Jamie here (from the video), sealed drags are great until they break..i had a sealed drag Sage first season in Seychelles, after one GT it was done. I couldn't fix it either, had to ship it back to the USA. Ever since I use cork for anything over a 10wt, I can fix it, and clean it, it is simple, and in all honesty, I have never seen a shilton drag fail, and that after 3 years of watching Shilton rentals being used 7 days a week for 9 months in row on GTS
