So you got rid of the ceramic resistor but now have one online right at the alt? What is the purpose of the resistor? I have the ceramic one also and only get about 6v to the alt on that wire. Alt does not charge, even if I raise rpm over 2000
A resistor is supposed to lower the voltage, but I'm not sure that it should take it all the way down to 6v. I would use a wire to jump the battery stud on the alternator to the exciter wire terminal on the alternator and see if it will charge. If not then your alternator is probably bad. The alternator pigtail with the diode and resistor is much less prone to failure than the old ceramic resistors.

Do you have the part # used on the alternator?
The number for the alternator or the number for the pigtail?
