- After the misery of frozen ground now we face the misery of rain and more rain!!
We were supposed to go out twice in the last seven days but both times had to cancel due to frozen ground but this time despite the rain we decided to go for it, and I’m glad we did!!
HUGE SILVER for Simon!!

I bet you've heard of Time Team, right? You know they're back on supported by Patreon subscribers like me. I think you'd be great as Time Team Detectorist and I'm going to tell them so.
I love time team William. It’s one of the reasons I got into metal detecting. I watch their videos religiously and I don’t think I’ve ever missed a series or episode since it came out !
Same here. For what it's worth I emailed Professor Taylor and invited him to to watch your channel.
@@thescottishdetectoristgold in the moat!!!!
Always wondered where that coin ended up.
Watching Time Team is probably why TH-cam recommended this channel to me in the first place. Now it's easily the channel I get the most excited for when I see a new vid posted!
Wow Simon - whatta winner. Not often you can show up Mr Scottish Detectorist 🥇. Well done lads, you are, as ever a pleasure to follow....❤
Many thanks Suzi. It was a dreich but great day out! And I’ve taught Simon too well!
@@thescottishdetectorist great teacher and receptive student - epic combo 😁
You and Simon are the cheeriest drowned rats I've ever seen, lol. Thanks for another great video, John! Simon's 1/2 crown is stunning.😍
Many thanks. A wet day but simon showing me up made it worth it 😂
Simon is a fun guy! What a star and making Spain proud!
Is this Simons Mum?!? 🤣 only kidding. Yes he’s a top guy.
@@thescottishdetectorist Made me laugh! There is something about him…bet he has a few ladies following him around!
his girlfriend is a fungal
Please continue to use beer measures to value coins. It makes perfect sense.
Many thanks William! Beer is the ultimate commodity for understanding buying power! I’ll drink to that 😉 🍻
Well done to Simon.👏👏
Had 2 cartwheels in same hole last weekend in great condition. Hell of a signal..👨🏾🦯
Well done Jeffrey! Bet that was a banging signal!!! 😮
Brilliant video John. Great to see Simon out again, and what a find!! 😁
Many thanks Leanne. A dreich day but wow 🤩 what a coin
Hello from Ohio John and Simon. That was an awesome find. Love this channel. Good job both of you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Many thanks 😊
What an awesome hunt and Huge silver coin, too. I would have run with that half crown.
Well I hope so 😂 only I don’t find the huge coin 😢
Awesome find Simon and as for you John great job on your finds. I hope all you guys enjoy your Christmas with your family's and have a blessed new year.
Many thanks James and you too!! We’ll be back with a few more videos before Christmas
Congratulations to Simon!
That was an amazing find!
🍺Cheers to you both! What a good time. Take care!
Thanks Maureen. Glad you enjoyed
Thanks for braving the rain. I always enjoy your digs John!
Many thanks! Simon wins the day! Couldn’t happen to a nicer man 👨🏻 don’t tell him I said that 🤐
😂 Gotta Love the Simmon! Well done John! Another great video!!! Laughed my ass off! Highly entertaining and informative!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Ray. There’s only one Simòn…. Thankfully 😂
Excellent Silver for Simon . Well Done 💯👏
Yes I’ve taught him too well 🤣
Good on Simon!! I love when you tell how much beer a coin would fetch in the day. If I could get a pint of bitter ale for a penny, I'd be an alkie!!! LOL
Haha 😂 I know can you imagine being able to buy a pint for a few pence these days 😆
The token last week? John please look at… The token looks like a farthing Token Cambridgeshire 1795 Beehive & Bees Druid ✌️ oh and hello from middle Georgia USA
Many thanks Tammy! I’ll have a look. Much appreciated! Best wishes, John
What a great day of detecting for you and Simon, John. He really was a jammy swine, but you found some beautiful coins yourself. I'm so glad the ground thawed out enough for this dig.
Well done to Simon Double D Domingo finding that very very nice Half Crown …it was in incredible condition and I hate to say it John he definitely out shone you that day …
Hope you didn’t catch a chill getting so wet ..foraging in the mud …
Many thanks Chris. For the reasons you mention he’ll never be in my fields again 😆 only kidding!
Who-hoo! Congratulations Simon!🎉
Thanks Sharlene. Much appreciated
Evening viewing! Happy Christmas mate
Enjoy! Many thanks
I really enjoy your channel John! Happy Detecting!
Much appreciated Laurie. Hope you enjoy the video!
Some lovely finds. Top show son 👏
Many thanks James. Hope you enjoyed
@thescottishdetectorist enjoyed it immensely. Heading up to Aberuthven next Sunday with Detecting Scotland and I can't wait hopefully pull something nice out the ground
Great wet hunt, thanks for the hours you put in john 💪💪💪
Thanks for watching otherwise I wouldn’t put in the hours 😆
Hi John nice to see you still on the fields even with all bad weather u having taken on last day's on Scotland. Today i also have take myself around 6 hours detecting and the only thing i git was a MAJOR bath, once for more than 30 minutes was raining heavy in Peterborough 😢... Big hug from Cambridgeshire.
Hi Arthur. Well at least you got out!! I’m just glad the weather has got mild, so was happy to go out in the rain and Simons coin made it all worth while!!
Happy hunting next time you are out!
@@thescottishdetectorist yes indeed, what nice coin, and that is the perfect example of detecting, Simon was on bad luck mode on last times we was detecting and today's was the man of the day... Olé to Simon today.
Well done Simon 👍👍👍👍
I’ve taught him too well John 😆
@@thescottishdetectorist Aye, nae doubt he’ll be wantin a go wi the XP Deus 2 next ( wi the 13” coil on it ) 😂😂😂😂👍
Eventually the student surpasses the teacher 😄👏 Well done Simon on that big coin and being good company for John on a soggy day👍🇨🇦
Yes Steve. He’s burned 🥵 his bridges!! He’s out ! Gone, forgotten!! 😆
😁@@thescottishdetectorist
Once again, Great finds, Great history lesson, thanks John and Simon
Much appreciated and thanks for watching
Going have to give Simon a new nickname, Sir Nicks a lot
Haha 😂 I’m sure he’s been called worse 🤣
Keeping me going mate grwag job mate and comgrats to simon 👍
Many thanks! Much appreciated
Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend, from this old man in northeast Tennessee. A miserable day of detecting…even with Simon, is better than a day of gardening. Hmmm…glad my wife likes gardening. Great show.
Get you a pint next I'm in the shire.
William
Sounds like a plan 🍻
Simon's pecular find looks like a broken winder off a clock, should be a second hole across from the other. Then there would have been a short shank that pivoted that would have wound the clock.
Aha! That makes sense!! Many thanks 😊
Nice coin a half crown much like our Rigsdaler here in Denmark 14 gram coin and like your one crown at 28 gram ve had the speci daler at same weight 🤗
A whopping big bit of silver! Shame it only buys 2.5 pints 🍺 😂
Nice finds! I’m glad you went out that wet.
Thanks Patty. Many thanks. I’m glad we braved the weather!! And we’ll done for Simòn
Love seeing the both of you.
Many thanks Leslie. If this video does well I might ask him back 😂
Simon for the win, nice find you silly man!
Haha 😂 Simòn wins the day! In the pouring rain ☔️
Simon, you jammy swine! Haha! Are we bitter? Beautiful!👍😁🇨🇦
Haha 😂 I had to do a double look when he came over with it. He’s known for over-exaggeration when it comes to size. I actually thought he was winding me up and it was a jar lid or aluminium can top because of the size of it 😂
Monday mornings are my favourite time to watch your videos. Adding in Simon makes my day as well. Pretty wet over in Scotland 😊 I will send you some sunshine and hot weather from NZ.
Can’t wait! Many thanks 😊
very nice round....amazing finds.....thx for showing
Thanks Peter. Glad you enjoyed. A whopper of a silver!
Is Simon's maybe part of a dagger? Like a middle towards the end bit?
I’ll have a re look and see! Many thanks
2/6 d. Half crown. My pocket money in ‘68. lol. Nice coin Simon.
I hope you didn’t use it to buy two and a half pints of beer 🤣
The Spaniard saves the day! The hero of Detectorville strikes again.
Haha 😂 steady on…. He won’t shut up about those two roman denarii so don’t encourage him further 😆
Kudos for weathering the rain for a few rinds and our entertainment.
Tell me, what era do you find arrow heads over there?
Thanks Marion. I’ve only found one arrowhead ever! But metal arrowheads tend to be medieval and flint ones Neolithic or Bronze Age?
Well done to Simon, good show...
I’ve taught him too well Jim 😂
Well done Simon and john you guys have that many permissions that you just walk field 2 field 😂 👍
Many thanks Stevie. A good day out and shown up by Simòn! It’s funny you say that because today I walked for 1.3 miles in a straight line then back again and it was three different farmers and I had permission for all. Lucky me!
Great coin well done to Simon 😀
Terrible Jane…. Terrible 😢 🤣 only kidding, I’m happy for him
@@thescottishdetectorist 😀😂😂
most of the trees you see in this video have roots that snake around the bones of dead folks in the ground
... that's what I like to think anyway
Haha 😆 as long as I don’t dig one up! 😆
We need to get Simon on again with finds like that!
Simon is forever banned after that performance 😂 only kidding. He’ll be back I’m sure
@@thescottishdetectorist Haha, good on him 😂
Excellent day John! Cheers to Simon! He’s coming along really well.
Proper professional video, superb editing, love the super imposment on coins, proper knowledge......Bunch of Scottish R soles...xxx. England.
Great day for the dynamic duo (except for the soak, of course)
It was worth it for the coin!! Many thanks
Watching you use that old sun tan lotion as a water bottle… 🤣🤣 Please invest in a better one.. 🤣🤣
I tell you it’s a really good coin cleaner! It’s just that Simòn can’t work it 😂
Congratulations Simon, Great find.
Amazing find isn’t it!! 🤩
Nice one Simon! great coin - Simon defnitely won this one!
We’ll let him have his day 😆
flat copper piece was a smashed/flattened rifle cartidge.
Aha! Many thanks 😊
I love the knowledge of history that you share along with your funds. Great videos you have, with enjoyable, educational and exciting content! New subscriber from MS USA. My boyfriend and I are shopping for our first metal detector now! Happy treasure hunting lad!
John, or anyone that might know, did you ever go back and find that American silver dollar you found and lost? Ive been detecting here in the states for more then 30 years and have never found one of those.
He found it a couple of days later.
@@deborahparham3783 outstanding, I've been wondering for quite some time now.
Yes indeed! Took me three attempts but I got it in the end!! 😆 the only coin I’ve ever found lost and found again 😝
Great video as usual……..I think Simon may have missed his calling. That wonderful, unusual deep voice and accent would be great as a voice over, not sure what it’s called….a voice for animated movies like Frozen. Very cool and distinct voice!
Wow what a AWESOME coin Simon CONGRATULATIONS 😊
Wow what a AWESOME coin Simon CONGRATULATIONS 😊
Wow what a AWESOME coin Simon CONGRATULATIONS 😊
Guest personality of the year! Well done Simon!!
There are flint knappers all over the U S. Until guns were introduced to the Americas the North and South American natives used flint for hunting, surgical and other purposes.
So I guess they were neolithic in the 17th century. Very precise astronomers in Mexico but no guns..
Do you find ground temperature makes a difference to depth sensitivity, I'm wondering if you went over hard frozen ground you'd get more hits, obviously digging up would be near impossible but nothing to say you couldn't mark the area for later?
Great video John.
What does it sound like Simon? "wha wha wha wha" 😂 had me laughing😂.
Great find with the half crown Simon, well done 👏
How do I start my day? Watching two very wet handsome and smiling men digging in the mud. You two are something special. Can't get enough. My breakfast would not be the same without you.
Double 'D" Dominguez smahing it this time!! Lovely silver and a good few hours in the field for both of you great video as always John thanks for sharing keep up the hard work mate 👍
Way to go Simon awesome find, great job to you both!
Love it, love it!! John and Simon, what a team😅 I so love all your videos, even the rainy ones!! Awesome on the silver, congrats Simon the Spaniard!😃👍⛏
Biggest one I ever found was actually a bank token, george 3rd silver dollar... its absolutely massive.
Simon's axe looks like an ancient arrow head
He’ll be delighted
That was a great dig gentlemen. Simons silver half crown is beautiful, way to go. Hopefully a bit of drier weather is coming for you soon. Cheers from Texas, and we will see you in the next outing.
so enjoyable
Glad you enjoyed! Many thanks 😊
He's a likeable soul is Simon. Always nice to see him and well done on his Silver. Great stuff john. I hope you're helping out at home 😉
Only discovered your videos a month or so ago but now I 'm hooked I've watched quite a few other videos now BUT I think that your presentation ,knowledge of history and good cheer puts you miles above everyone else I'm English but have lived in the south of France for 44 years but intend on bringing my partner to visit Scotland in the next copuple of years I will look into your second site about guided tours BUT would love to go out with you on a dig for a couple of days my partner is French but she loves metal detecting
Well I think you have taught Simon well. What a lovely big silver for him! Good to see you both out and entertaining us all with your competitiveness 😂. Thanks for persevering in the rain too - I bet your hat was pretty soggy after that 😂
John ‘you beauty’ give your tooth brush a bath! 😁
Haha 😂 yes it’s needing some tlc isn’t it 😆
Nice work! That 1946 Silver is beautiful ‼️
Great video. Always nice to hear your knowledge..
Well done Simon.. what a coin 😊
John ! Thanks for sharing.
Simon, Very nice work, Sir.
Many thanks! I’ve taught him too well 😂
Cor! Two 'n' a tanner! That's more than a months pocket money. Or a birthday present from wealthy grandparents. Judging by the condition it was not long out of the mint.
Thanks for trogging thru the weather...another vid makes my day :) Be well
Nice find Simon , Happy Dayz 😁👍👏
Much appreciated and thanks for watching! Best wishes
Simon's smile is infectious. What a beautiful silver half crown.
Every Dog has his Day ! Its nice to see Simon Found a nice Bone today! Nice Video Thanks !😅
Isn't Simon a cute fella! Well done both of ye. Nice weather for ducks.
That's a stunning silver coin that Simon dug up! Glad that he didn't strike the silver one with the spade!
You've got a opponent in Simon when it comes to challenges John he seems to always find something silver to come back at you with
I have 3 kings from the 1000s of Scotland and a signer of the Magna Carta in my family tree
Congrats Simon! That truly makes up for last dig.
I think Simon’s mystery object is a broken clock winding key
The 1870 Queen Vic penny is very nice looking a great find
Well done Simon, beautiful silver. How did you two meet?
Many thanks! We both trained together back in 2020 as tour guides 😆 those were the days
@@thescottishdetectorist ahhh cool!
Ah bless Simon, so happy for him - and wow he beat you this time ! 😂
Haha 😆 yes a wet but great day! Well done to Simon my protégé!!
@@thescottishdetectorist for sure he has a great teacher 🕺
