ghd Platinum+ vs. The NEW ghd Chronos! What's The Difference Between The Flat Iron Straighteners? 🧐

We are backkkk, following on from last weeks video where I showed you the brand new ghd Chronos styler and demonstrated a straight and a curl - we are now putting it to the test and showing you the comparison between the Chronos and the ghd Platinum+ which WAS ghd's top of the range styler (that is, until Chronos came out!)
Here are my key takeaways:
- Chronos does give a bit more shine (85% vs. naturally air dried hair, whereas Platinum+ gives 75% more shine vs. naturally air dried hair)
- The curls are bouncier, more rounded and defined whereas Platinum+ curls are noticeably a bit looser and with a more straight-ish end
- The curls with Chronos are incredibly consistent from root to tip, now compared to Platinum+I, notice some of the roots of the Platinum+ side were a bit more elongated/dragged out
- You can take larger sections with ease with Chronos
- 10 min sleep mode with Chronos vs. 30 min sleep mode with Platinum+
Summary:
Both fantastic stylers. As you may know, Platinum+ was my go-to hair straightener and now Chronos as just beaten that so I'm sure I will be using Chronos mainly now. I think Chronos is the styler for you if you want the top of the range hair straightener, if you have the budget to spend (it does retail at £289) if you curl or wave with straighteners and if you are hair obsessed like me!
Some of you to be honest, might not even see a noticeable difference between the 2 and that's OK! Because let's face it - Platinum+ is amazing! And I do have a keen hairstylist eye 👀😉 So if you have recently only just bought the Platinum+ then please do not fret - it is still very much a highly rated styler.

Great review! Just bought platinum + back in Dec and Chronos came out 😢 the curls definition on Chronos definitely looks better, bouncier and long lasting! Thinking of getting it now 😊

you're welcome! I actually don't have a corrale, I did try it when it first came out and I really didn't rate it tbh. I found the 'gripping plates' as I think they call them, really pulled on my hair and quite a few strands of hair came out and were on the plates. So I think if I were to compare them then the chronos would blow the corrale out of the water. It might be worth testing corrale out again though to see if anything has changed...
Is the outer casing hot to touch ? As I realised that you’re placing ur fingers over it when curling ur hair to have a better grip 😊
No, the outside casing on both doesn’t really get hot to touch at all. Both platinum+ and the chronos contain heat insulators inside the casing (apparently a material which is also in astronauts space suits!) so this stops the outside getting too hot to touch x
And what's about the diference with the original ghd? I tested platinum+ against the original ghd and for me, original gave me more definition (I think It is because of the size of the styler, original is smallest than platinum+) and also more duration. What do you think about this comparision?
hello! yes plate width, original is the narrowest (marginally) so this would explain defined curls. Original is the 'entry point' styler in the ghd portfolio whereas chronos is now 'top of the range' in the portfolio. There is a big difference in the shine of the hair and the glide through of the hair (this is down to the coating on the plates) original is definitely a stiffer glide I'd say. Chronos is much more intelligent technology with many more layers of tech if you will undermeath the plates. I may do a chronos vs original video but there will for sure be a more noticeable difference x
Is ghd chronos the best one in the market ?
What if you just want a sleek look. Which is better ? X
They are veryyyy close if doing a side by side sleek/straight look. Chronos does have a bit more shine. Platinum+ was always the go-to for more difficult to style hair and all hair types etc. and it still is! But if you do want the best of the best and those sleek results to really last then I’d opt for the chronos. But I do think a side by side is veryyyy similar in my personal opinion. Hope that helps to somewhat answer! x
This is a stupid comparison.
Depending on your dominant hand, that side is not going to turn out as nice as the other side b/c of the side of the hand that is holding the straightener. It doesn't take a 'stylist's eye' to figure that one out.

Wow thanks for your passionate feedback. As a stylist of almost 15 years, I am ambidextrous and I use both hands to style both sides of my head, whether this is on myself or on a client. I teach using both hands to achieve the best symmetry. If it would make you happy and make you feel that my honest review is ‘less biased’ then I will do my next comparison with the newer styler in my left hand. Have a great day 😊
