    After driving my Volt for a month I'm convinced that it's a total game changer. It performs and handles great, and unlike the Prius it's fun to drive. After a month's worth of driving I used 1 gallon of gas for 900 miles! The fuel savings more than covers my $250/month lease payment.
    This is my first new Chevy (20 yrs ago I bought a used Suburban) and I'm amazed by the engineering that has gone into the Volt.

    Paul - sorry to offend. The lies I am referring to are that the Volt is a bad car , joke , catches fire, only go's 40 miles. The car is very well engineered and fits the commute profile of 80 plus percent of US commuters. I just bought one and it exceeds all my expectations. I can commute all year on 100% electric and with zero range anzioty. It seems like a perfect car for most people

    dude below said the leaf looks better than the Volt LOL
    leaf is butt fucking ugly. the Volt is a cool looking car, front end is great looking.
    Overall Volt is one the best cars you can buy, better than audis, bmw, mercedes, etc
    only car better is the Tesla of course

    Can't wait to drive it. I have to to admit that 10 years ago I didn't want to buy American(though I did), but after having a job that lets me get behind the wheel of every single car on the market and in some cases after they have some miles on them, I limited my likes to mostly American made vehicles. In fact after selling a Mustang with 260,000miles(all original, two clutches though) I decided on a 2010 Malibu. I can assure you GM does in fact give you one of the best cars for the money.

    Great review, The engine doesn't power the wheels it powers the electric motor. Basically it's a gasoline generator. Cool!

    I think some people are missing the point when they compare this car to a Prius. This is an electric car. Electric cars have provide an experience that can't be described in a video. Very few reviews explain the pure linear acceleration. Also much lower Mx costs and issues.

    hi @bradyischamp: The volt doesn't charge back up after it transitions to starting the engine. At that point it operates *sort of* like a normal hybrid, which don't really change the battery charge very much while you're driving around. The car does this because if it charged the battery up with the engine, it would end up with worse fuel economy than if you hadn't and waited to charge off a wall :-) I really like the car too, there's one outside my apartment right now.

  • @fgmnx
    @fgmnx 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    My previous comment got cut short.....suffice it to say, my Volt is a fantastic car, and until you actually drive one , or see one in person before you criticize it, I suggest you take a test drive first...the car is truly amazing and fun to drive.

  • @frostbytey

    best fuel effecient car all around to date... anyone in denial needs to do research. It was Motor Trend's 2011 car of the year for a reason. I could go on for days about a volt. It truely does show you what GM can do if there is motivation.

    I love The Tesla model S, the 85 KW battery received a EPA 280, And that is the largest battery. Now if you drive like Prius you might get 400 miles out of in one charge, but you need the AC off.

    @CDTbossy "Imperial UK gallons are alot smaller than US Gallons, also the EU EPA is alot nicer than the US EPA which is why the Prius only gets 50 mpg in US while the EXACT same car gets 60 MPG in EU."
    Correct, Imperial gallons are smaller, so to get the adjusted US MPG, multiply the UK listed mileage by .83.
    The Cruze diesel is rated at 61.4 mpg highway (extra-urban), is 51.1 mpg US.
    The original UK Prius COMBINED mileage is 72.43 MPG (UK), 60.31 (US).
    The VW Golf with is 67 US MPG.

    Depends on your driving habits. If you loved the drive, find another car you 'would' purchase, and compare the total cost of driving both vehicles over 7 years.
    My full commute is over 120km and I average 2L/100km (charging only at home overnight). Compared to my previous car (2002 Honda Accord v6) I save about 250 dollars a month (including the cost of electric), and the Volt is even more fun to drive.
    People just forget that the price includes 'Gas cost' for 7 years.

  • @lilgman191
    @lilgman191 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @AutoJunkieMan I never heard anyone complain about the Volt performance, Electric motors are superior to gas motors and more efficient. GM could have made it do everything you want in a car, only problem is price. In only 3 years from now the Volt is expected to be up to 7k cheaper get more than double the EV range and better mpg in Extended range mode.

  • @AlRoderick
    @AlRoderick 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @bradyischamp The generator chases the power consumption of the car. It intentionally leaves the battery mostly-empty when you're running on gas. Power made by running the generator is more expensive than energy from the grid, so it only makes what it needs to run and doesn't store very much of it, so you have an empty battery ready to take on a full charge of cheap grid electricity at the other end.

  • @ACEDcomputers
    @ACEDcomputers 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SSparks555
    Yea? and when the EV1 runs out, it slows to a stop. When the volt runs out, it switches to gas meaning you can go for thousands of miles. Also I easily get 60-70 miles to a charge on my volt.

  • @cubeOfat
    @cubeOfat 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @imercana "The 150 horsepower diesel, by contrast has ample torque and very high gearing, meaning strong acceleration and relaxed motorway driving, even with the automatic transmission, which is a good six-speeder. The official fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures are a bit behind those for the latest European diesels, which is consistent with the slightly disappointing “real world” mpg figures recorded by the Cruze's own on-board computer which were typically in the low-to mid-forties."

    @djburke135 Part of the reason the Volt only gets 40 miles is the way that Chevy cycles the battery. They think their approach will lead to the battery lasting longer. They have a very sophisticated battery management system on the Volt. For those people who drive less than 50 miles on most days, which is most people, it won't matter that the Volt can't drive 100 miles on battery power alone.

    Actually you can buy a house (not a tin one ) right now in south Florida for less than $40,000.
    You can buy a house in Detroit for $5,000.
    And the housing market is no where near the bottom yet

  • @VonRenesse
    @VonRenesse 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @finnirazor average cost of energy in US in 2007 was 10.65 cents per KWH, and the Volt hold 16KWH. If you drained the battery every day, that's about $50 a month on electricity...and the average distance that the average North American person drives everyday is approx. 40 miles, which is the range of the battery for the Volt... Where did your figures come from?

  • @NJRenewableEnergy
    @NJRenewableEnergy 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice work. Ignore the haters that are so blinded with politics. Its amazing that its socially acceptable on fox news and internet to bad mouth the american auto industry. Back in the Bush years, they would have called you a terrorist and that you hated this country.And for the tay criers, from 02 to 08 the US subsidized the fossil fuel industry 70.2 Billion. Where was all the complaining then and now? And I didn't add the billions to fight all our wars protecting our oil investment either.

  • @cubeOfat
    @cubeOfat 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    A true game changer would consist of Ford, GM and Volkswagen selling the high MPG vehicles in the US that the UK never stopped enjoying. Try typing in .co.uk instead of .com at the end of your favorite automaker (except for Chrysler, they don't care about fuel economy in any country it seems).
    VW makes a 'Bluemotion' vehicle that is rated at nearly 90 mpg, but no one would want that here, right?

    @Citrusharvester: Thats not completely true. You can easily get the price of this car down to 32,000 just by simply using the program they have set up for it. Secondly, with the Volt, if you are a person whose work commute is only about 10 miles one way. Then you can get by without using gas at all in this car.

  • @cubeOfat
    @cubeOfat 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, that's nice. $32 grand for a hybrid. Why would I pay more for a hybrid?

    I don't understand why it gets so much negative press. I see nothing whatsoever wrong with this car. If there is a beef with GM for other reasons it doesn't mean the Volt is a horrible car. For most people it would average far superior mileage than any Prius (the best selling hybrid on the market) it far exceeds the Prius. If I had a Prius the best I could expect is 50 mpg and the average is probably less. Im getting nearly 400 average mpg and expect it to go much higher.

  • @evolutionj
    @evolutionj 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @AutoJunkieMan Your comment is irrelevant to this video. The hybrids your taking about are the priuses and the insight. they are completely different to the volt hybrid. This car you plug in to an outlet and drive. If you run out of juice, it has a backup gasoline engine. So basically, if you drive about 50 miles a day or less for regular stuff then you will almost never pay for gas.
