- drivencarreviews.com/ Unless you've been isolated in a yurt distilling organic fuel for your bio-diesel hybrid, it's been tough to miss the hype of the Chevrolet Volt. The extended range electric vehicle is now available in select markets. Tom Voelk takes a look to see if it's worth getting amped up over.

a red volt with chrome rims is just absolutely stunning
The best video I've seen about the Volt yet.
When I test drove my VOLT, all I could say was DUDE! Now that I have driven it 9 months... DUDE! You're a fool if you don't go test drive one at the CHEVY dealer for FREE!!!
Driven it all over even up big bear lake 8500 feet up mountains for snowboarding in winter runs perfect best car for every condition build solid to run forever and costs nothing to run charges anywhere you have an outlet for free in California with grocery stores libraries or free chargers
The Volt is a version of the Cruze, at least they both use the same platform. Also please remember the Volt qualifies for a credit because it is alternative powered vehicle, just like any other alternative powered vehicle.
An awesome car! Got mine in October and so far it is handling the ice and snow of a Toronto winter just fine... Love the instant heat of an electric car, even of the battery does lose 30 % of its range at -20 , its worth it!
Thanks to the Battery its a heavy car with a low center of gravity so it is better than most sedans. Putting snow tires on it does mean that you loss the tire presure readings unless you want to buy extra sensors for the second set of tires.
The only annoying thing is that in really cold weather the engine does fire up every few minutes to keep the ICE warm and ready for use. The colder it gets the more often this happens and the longer it lasts ( up to 30 seconds in the 2012 model).
No issues, although I did look at having the plastic under guard removed, I decided to keep it in end as it appears to be fairly flexible.
does the gas engine only power the motor or can it also charge the batteries?
Mountain mode and driving it in L mode, actually recharges the batteries
Too bad they shut it down instead of the Bolt :/
So you didn't slide all over the place in the winter? I live in the Rocky Mountain region so not sure if I should get it or not. Have you gone on a long road trip in it yer? If so, how did it handle? How many MPG did you get on your trip? Thanks so much!
All somebody has to do is modify one of these cars with a generator head to a rear wheel so the battery is charging constantly, not just when you brake. It only takes 4 horse power to run the generator head to sufficiently charge this battery full time, there is no need for fuel at all or home charging. Big oil scrapped this project years ago because of this fact.
did you get through the Feb 8th snow storm this year alright?
I'm thinking of getting it but because of it's low ground clearance, i'm scared it'll get stuck and scrapped. :\
Getting mine next week, a 2012. Yay!
I love it. I love it. I got my second one. A MY2014. Gave the first one to my sis. She's at 0,8 l / 100km (roughly 250mpg), I'm at 204mpg. I wouldn't want it anyway different.
@@manoman0 How is your Volt experience thus far?
A pity they don't use the EV to bring out more of that torque to the wheels.
Is there a pollution difference burning 35 mpg in the Volt vs burning 35 mpg in another car? The Volt gets 35 mpg when the gasoline generator kicks in.
@dkkght46 Well, I will tell you one thing...I want to buy this car, and I won't have to buy $40 in gas all the time. I do admit $35-40K is a lot, but that's why you go to college. To make a million more dollars on average than a non college grad. Anyways, the point is, I want this car...it's awesome.
THAT part!
@46Mongoose are you serious? perpetual motion devices are physically impossible.
what happens when you're idleing?
Nice
32.3mpg!?!?!? Wtf. I like how you skip that part really quick.
@dkkght46 The tech is their, it's just price that's an issue.
@dkkght46 My point is this car is freakin' awesome, and you don't know what you are talking about. What is your problem with the Volt, anyway?
GM should have built a Chevy Volt version of the Chevrolet Cruze. Price would have only been $27,500. No need for Government "Income Tax" Credit.
2nd gen Volt solved this issue
8:50 Really? The GM Environment guy said, “…fascination with climate change”?
No way, it's a petrol powered car, mainly. And the interior of the 2012 model is - I'm nice now - absolutely aweful.
Seems I love EVs now :)))hahahah
For the money I rather get a Prius
I don't lik that you cab only fit 4 people.
In America, a BS degree means Bull Shit degree.
people with bad taste drive prius's so i guess you have bad taste
