I think I have heard all versions of this song and my opinion is that this live version is his best one, he have ever sung, because his voice come to advantage. I also think it is the best song he have ever recorded in his solo career. I like him very much cause this song is full of emotions. ( I hope I have not done any mistakes, because I cant speak english very well)
This really should've been included as part of the SCREAM FOR ME BRAZIL live CD!! I love the studio version from THE CHEMICAL WEDDING CD but this live version is the best version!! 🤘🤘
Its based upon the poem "And did Those Feet in Ancient Time" by William Blake. My interpretation is building a true kingdom of God in the down trodden and industrialized England. A long time ago, Jerusalem was synonymous with "Kingdom of Heaven" so its like hes talking about turning England into a Kingdom of Heaven.
from the frozen waters, the king will rise again with two suns in the skyyyyyyYYYYY i shall not cease from mental flight nor shall my sword sleep in my hand 'til we have built jerusalem in england's green in pleasant land LET IT RAIN! God bless you bruce! one of the best from TCW. his solo stuff is VERY underrated.
This track is amazing live, thanks for posting it. I wish we'd get a Tyranny of Souls tour! Bruce has said he'd love to do one but never got a chance after the album came out. Of course, it'd _have_ to be called... Touranny of Souls. :-D
Yeah, I know! It caused a lot of problems for me. You know, when people start treating you like a criminal, or devil worshiper & that's what they expect you to be, then I started believing I was a bad person & it actually caused me to act out in negative ways bcause that's how all the metal people acted. I am happy to see that now, people treat music as that, it's music/art, not evil! Acceptance of music has changed & I am glad, cause it made my life hell back then, it was so stupid! RockOn
Thank you for posting this wonderful live version of a brilliant song. When William Blake wrote his original poem, he was referring in specific detail to an historical event. There's a lot more about this on the Eternal Idol site, and Bruce's song is mentioned in the book "The Missing Years of Jesus."
well, it actually was, not that they were telling you to go worship the devil, bt their songs were about evil & they played that up in their demeanor on stage & in their music. I guess you had to be there back then, , things are different now, we were a messed up generation back then. & I love this song, I want to download this..
Só de imaginar que estava na fila da loja woodstock (ainda existe?) para comprar um ingresso para esse show já valeu a lembrança. Em algum lugar devo ter a relíquia do ticket desse show "extra" na qual essa bela canção foi tocada...
This could of fit onto a cd of scream for me brazil, but i think because if you add it onto scream for me brazil itll be 76 minutes long it could get rid of some quality. Thats kinda why Metallica did that for hardwired to self destruct (also maybe cos maiden did a double album year before that)
Very nice response. I agree with you totally. That's how I try to explain it as well. I really don't believe that Iron Maiden promoted evil in anyway; most of their songs refer to literature anyway, so when they sing about things that refer to evil, they are simply refering to the Bible as literature. That's personally how I see it.
yeah I know,, I was just trying to talk/express, about what the old days were like. Everyone was in such panic about heavy metal music & today, it is no big deal, they even put the songs on a video game, but we (me) were continuously attacked for listening to Maiden, Metallica, Ozzy, etc.. it's just funny how today, ozzy is on a reality TV show, but back then, they made us burn his albums & protest outside record stores & concerts, about going to hell etc... just funny how things changed..
hes not done with his solo career. maiden has been super busy. dance of death tour 03-04 early days tour 05 amolad tour 06-07 Somewhere back in time tour 08-09 they havent really stopped for 5 years. and in the mist of that bruce released tyranny in 05 but with no tour. can you blame him?
I think it's a good band, i am a believer but that doesn't offend me, cause it's music and only that, while you create and not to cling to everything they say , I love their music! are the best in the world, but not offend me (: do not combine music with religion ...
ummm...eddie is still around you know and they havent really changed and this is solo dickinson not maiden so i cant really see the connection i would also recoomend the killing floor it is from the same album :)
I know where you are comming from, and what you are seeing. The songs you are refering too were more biblical, and apocalyptic. The songs speeking of the Devil in essence, were more of warnings of what he embodies, rather than glorifying him. So, those songs were more about stories of people faltreing, and the wrongs that come of those failures, rather than actually being about Satan. The songs were about people, and what different lives go through.
@stusixtyone Sure helped me. :) I'm a believer in the theory of the Israelite origins of the Celts and Saxons. Didn't know it's the unofficial anthem of England.
I think I have heard all versions of this song and my opinion is that this live version is his best one, he have ever sung, because his voice come to advantage. I also think it is the best song he have ever recorded in his solo career. I like him very much cause this song is full of emotions.

A long time ago, Jerusalem was synonymous with "Kingdom of Heaven" so its like hes talking about turning England into a Kingdom of Heaven.
Bradley McDaniel satanic Mills.
It’s a very very famous poem, several layers of themes and meaning and myth. England’s national anthem, so to speak
One of the best songs ever made :)))))

I've been writing a song recently and I realized that the chords were the same as in here. THIS IS SO PERFECT SONG!
Yeah, I know! It caused a lot of problems for me. haha oh shit right, Can't believe I typo'd that haha.
This is from The Chemical Romance. One of the best songs on the album for sure. The other song I liked was The Book of Thel.
Wedding *
@fungfurs make sure that C_N-O Sharon knows that!
I think it's a good band, i am a believer but that doesn't offend me, cause it's music and only that, while you create and not to cling to everything they say , I love their music! are the best in the world, but not offend me (: do not combine music with religion ...

They were NEVER all about the devil, for Gods sake.
i think roadrunner did a list of rock vocalists and bruce was #2 but robert plant was 1
A great song. But studio version is better.
That is a metaphor for the atomic bomb, and how we play G_d with it. It is not an anti God lyric
yeah right
envy

It's good but , Emerson Lake & Palmer really give it more....of everything
