Fun fact: the style in which the gospels were written is the exact same as other biographies of the time (i.e. focusing on certain parts of an individuals life and glossing over others, rather than giving equal parts to every section of that persons life).

It should be noted that, while having two or three children with the same name would have been quite normal in a Greco-Roman household, it was very uncommon in Jewish households. You can easily have two Agrippinas in the same family because the Roman parents would have called the elder Agrippina and the younger Agrippinilla. The same can't be done with Jewish children.

@@andrewsuryali8540 it was even worse then that in the Roman tradition; Where men had at least prenomen as Marcus, Gaius of Sextus, the woman did not even had prenomen of their own, all daughters were named as being daughters of such and such gens.
A professor Latin once told the practise of name children among the Roman farmer pretty basic: After the first three sons they just started counting, Sextus just means the 6th one.
Ceasar belonged to the gens Julia so his daughter was called (a) Julia, he had a few aunts on his fathers side also called Julia. When there were three daughters in a household of the Julian family they would be Julia Major, Julia Minor and Julia Tertia.
The names of the Agrippina was actual Vipsania as they came from Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa. Agrippa was a nickname as Ceasar actually was too.

It’s apparent that details mattered very much to the Jews and those who wrote the Bible. Luke, a Greek physician, was exceptionally detailed oriented. In Hebrew (apparently) each name in the genealogy of Christ has a meaning and when read in order tells the story of Christ’s coming and the Good News. Just like the numbers, it all has a deeper meaning

Jews didn't even exist when the Torah and prophets were written, so what would detail supposedly mattering to them have to do with anything related to the bible?
The bible records the words of ISRAELITE prophets, and was written by ISRAELITE scribes.
      "Who are Israelites;
      To whom pertaineth the adoption,
      And the glory,
      And the covenants,
And the giving of the law,
      And the service of God,
      And the promises;
      Whose are the fathers,
And of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen." Rom 9:4-5
"Strictly speaking, it is incorrect to call an ancient Israelite a Jew, or to call a contemporary Jew an Israelite or Hebrew." -The Jewish Almanac, 1980, p.3
There were Israelites in the Kingdom of Judaea, and Israelites of the Kingdom of Israel. Those in Judaea were called JUDAEANS, not "Jews" as the Jewish Almanac attests.
It's difficult to believe that supposedly "Spirit Filled Christians" could be so easily duped with such a simple Bait & Switch ploy. (Replacing Judaeans with Jews)

No. There are step by step instructions on how to treat ALL, not just "some" who "might agree with you." "Narrative" is close-mindedness. It allows for human "grays" while GOD IS black & white. YOUR REASONS for ANY action won't matter. The intent of every present moment flows into each one after affecting more than yourself. Even when you think you are alone & no one sees. A murderer affects more than themselves & their victim, correct? A thief passes the cost on to everyone else. A liar spreads disharmony & harm to those who hear & to those their lie is about. An apathetic person is the worst. Seeing harm to another & not offering help is apathy. The ONLY REAL instructions: treat OTHERS as they WANT to be treated. Open your home to someone who NEEDS a hand up, BUT they MUST want to rise from their position & HELP THEMSELVES to where you are showing them. Feed someone outside a store or buy them a bottle of water. Kindness. Intent. Living as Jesus did. No matter HIS intent, how much LOVE did it take to THINK His GOD had abandoned Him & STAYED UPON THE CROSS for ALL SIN, in His belief? Would YOU do that? I would take it from Him IF I could. See more than what others teach you. Even me. THINK for yourself.

In my own family(!) we have 3(!) different spellings for our last name, because it was translated from German into Polish back into German centuries ago, and my ancestors themselves weren't too sure about the spelling anymore, and my grandma only got the name from her husband, my grandpa, who wasn't around to set the record straight when his sons and daughters were getting married, so 3 different variations of the name stuck and spread. It's funny, because it's a very unique last name, so you can always tell we are all related, but at the same time it really throws off the officials when there are 3 separate spellings of what is clearly meant to be the same surname, yet nobody can decide which of the 3 is the one true one. So if this can happen in less than 70 years, imagine how confusing things will get in a couple centuries time!

Given that behavior, I highly doubt he's deliberately deceiving people. I think he's doing a pretty decent job, or as decent a job as most people could do.

@@mowvu I mean, it might not mean much coming from me, someone who isn't religious, but it doesn't seem hard to believe in one thing and see that there's plenty of people in the past who believed in various different things. Similarly, I believe in modern-day science to explain the world around me while accepting that it's flawed and incomplete in many ways, and I don't find it hard to reconcile this with the fact that many people of the past to had their own forms of science that I disagree with. For example, the Greeks have the belief that all things in the world are made of classical elements: earth, water, air, fire, and aether. This was their form of science. I don't agree with their science or the science of many other older civilizations, but the fact that many other civilizations having a form of science as a construct to explain the world around them doesn't make me believe modern science less.
Heck, an average religious person would probably agree that not everything they believe in is correct, yet it's not strange to hold strong to your current beliefs. For example, you probably find it unlikely for ALL of what you think is true to be true (because you believe countless things to be true, so it's likely at least some of them will be wrong), yet you'll still believe each of your individual beliefs to be true, like that the Earth is round or that the world is made of atoms, because that's what you grew up learning and understanding while finding the most intuitively reasonable. And if you found proof that one of your beliefs is incorrect (say a scientific study you believed in turned out to simply be wrong), would that make you no longer believe in all your other beliefs? No, you'd likely find some explanation/rationalization as to why you were wrong (perhaps that specific scientist or experiment was bad, or some systemic issue causes bad studies like these to arise), then change that one belief (and perhaps closely related beliefs and similarly derived beliefs), then keep your remaining ones untouched. Human beings are varied/diverse creatures, so it's not strange for us to believe wildly different things such that should a specific incorrect belief prove to be fatal (e.g. berries that look like this are safe to eat), not everyone dies for believing in the same thing.

    • @robertbethel6074

@@mowvu What? That doesn’t make any sense to me. Archeology has done nothing but back up and confirm the Bible. Many biblical people and places have been found through archeology. Archeologists even refer to the Bible when they are excavating any area the Bible refers to. As for the bones of animals that lived millions of years ago, we just use our best guess as to their age with carbon dating but while it’s a tool used to determine age it’s not the only tool and it’s far from being perfect and at times wildly inaccurate. We’ve found dinosaur bones with soft tissue which according to science lasts much less than 1M years. We’ve carbon dated dinosaur bones to only a few thousand years old. There have been recent known living animals that passed away and we carbon dated them and got crazy results like 30,000 years old. It’s just science using their best guess and science is always changing. I would put all my eggs into that one basket just because a rock with uranium decay dates to 14.6 Billion years.

I am 70 YO now. I believe in Christ as my Savior. That is what I was taught. I don't believe "THE ONLY WAY TO GO TO HRAVEN IS TO BELIEVE IN CHRIST ONLY."

He sent Mohammad for that area of the country. And the Hindu God's for India and that area. The Native Americans believe in the Creator. The father of everything. (Many are Catholic , with NA traditions worked in.)
Many religions have the same creation stories. The same standards to live by. It is "Evil" teachers of any religion who pevert their OWN holy readings. This only makes sense to me. There are good holy people of all religions. So, I think there will be all different religions and people going to "Heaven."
If you have "No church affliation, the church ID reccomend ID a group called "Friends." Sometimes they are called 2X2's. They might be hard to find as they don't believe in spending money on "Churches." The preachers go from area to area preaching to the group in that area. But as a Muslim, we must believe in all scriptures or biblical examples, such as the Torah, the Bible, and the Psalms. But I understand the Torah and the Bible. This has long been one of my favorite channels, but this video elevates my view even further. This is so masterfully done, even from a historical perspective alone, but from a religious viewpoint, it is incredibly respectful for having been made by a non-Christian-and I was particularly excited to hear you included us Eastern Orthodox! Here in the West we usually get left out, or just lumped in with the Roman Catholics, LOL.
One additional point I would add to your later discussion about the numerology of the genealogies is that 14 is the gematria/numerological value of David (DVD). Since St. Matthew was writing to a primarily Jewish audience, his Gospel focuses on how Christ is the fulfillment of the Jewish Messianic prophecies, a king of the line of Judah (Gen. 49:10) and of the line of David (2 Sam. 7:12-13). Arranging his genealogy this way is just another reference to the Scriptures the Jews of his time would have known well.

@@greatvidznaga3183 I see where you're coming from, and I used to feel the same as you, but the more I read Scripture and understand the historical context of Scripture, the more it becomes clear that the Bible *does* give Mary preeminence (not to elevate her to equality with God, which neither Orthodox nor Roman Catholics do). She rightly deserves this honor because she is the Mother of God.
I think you'd agree that Jesus is King, so I won't touch on that, but we must then consider who is Queen. Well, that's Mary, of course! In the Old Testament, the Queen of Israel was not the king's wife, but his mother. Note how Michal, David's first wife, is never described as queen, nor Abigail, a later wife. His only wife to receive the title of Queen is Bathsheba, the mother of King Solomon. In 1 Kings 1:15-31, we see Bathsheba intercede on Solomon's behalf to obtain the throne; in the following chapter, Solomon's half-brother Adonijah appeals to Bathsheba to intercede to the king for him, and in 2:17 he says to her, "Please speak to King Solomon, for he will not refuse you." In verse 20, Solomon says, "Ask it, my mother, for I will not refuse you." And in verse 19, we see she has a throne at his right hand. The gebirah, the Hebrew queen-mother, is the right hand of the king and is the chief intercessor to him. Jesus was incarnate in a Jewish context, and He knew this. He is the fulfillment of the Old Testament. Thus, we can safely conclude that Mary is the Queen Mother of our Lord and King Jesus Christ, and in turn, the chief intercessor to Him for us. (This doesn't mean we can't approach Him directly! We certainly can :) But what king refuses His mother?)
In Luke 1:28, the Archangel Gabriel appears to Mary and calls her "highly favored" and "blessed among women." This is certainly high praise from an angel! Her older cousin Elizabeth echoes this praise in verse 42; in Jewish culture, it was custom for the younger to honor the elder, NOT the other way around, so clearly Elizabeth recognizes an elevation of her young cousin Mary. In her song of praise, Mary says, "He has put down the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly," referring to herself. The Greek "exalt" is hypsoō, which carries royal connotations. Further, in verse 35, Gabriel says, "the power of the Highest will overshadow you"; the Greek used here is an inflection of episkiazō, which is the same word used to describe the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit on the Ark of the Covenant in Exodus 40:35 (Greek Septuagint). It is clear from this chapter alone that Mary is deserving of praise! (NOT worship, which is reserved for God alone!)
Christians have given the Virgin Mary, the Theotokos (Greek for God-bearer), honor since the very founding of the Church! Her position of honor is 100% biblical. I hope this is helpful!! Please let me know if you have any more questions! :)

Solomon was the king, but Nathan was the eldest son and earns the Prima Genature. In this theory, these are indeed separate lines of succession, and they converge at the end. As we’ve seen in many other royal charts, these things can happen. In particular, Jewish traditions included adoption of childen by relatives after a parent died, and so one child may indeed have two fathers if you follow the genealogy.

That can be taken 2 ways.... one is via actual biologically thru Mary & Joseph (although remember there was no consummation between Mary & Joseph) perhaps by claiming Jesus as his son in that time period & culture Jesus would be considered Joseph's son. I actually agree with your assumption at the end about Matthew and Luke. I was raised in a catholic school and something that we were always told is that the Bible, particularly the historical or topics not relating to specifically Jesus (for example Genesis) were to be taken as stories or lessons.

All Denominations, I tell you the Truth. Satan hated all our Father’s Creations & in particular, Us, so he came for me knowing if I lost the faith we were all gone, written in the Covenant of the Ark our Father gave us of which all left outside the Ark regret. When our Father presents me with something it usually means it’s for us all as it is with our Coat of Many Colours which sometimes you can see when the sun shines through the rain & a beautiful sight it is. When the Creator Isaac gave my Birth Right to Satan-Jacob later called Israel He gave him dominion over all on my Footstool & out of the flesh he slithered from one to another recruiting those that Stumbled & took much pleasure rearranging our scriptures. For thousands of years people have been born into Satanic madness which over time has intensified. All deceived, some desiring, relishing sin. I am Aaron of Judah, High Priest under our Father, guardian of the Ark & Judah is our Father’s Law. I am Moses, there were no stones to smash, it simply means the Law was broken. Our Father’s Law is engraved in the Rock of Ages, my soul & it was always Satan that was Blind. Everlasting peace, love & goodwill to all filled with the love of our Father await the faithful in the Promised Land, not war. When our Father said to me Ezekiel Son of Man I send you to the children of Israel I arrived on the 1st July, 1951, hair cut, blindfolded, gagged with no memory of before & no ability to think for myself. Our Father put Satan in my flesh & for 17 years examined my desires. Having left me, to stay a little longer he needed to get inside a flesh with the host accepting him for what he was. Trapped, he was dealt with in 1985 as I regained my Birth Right. Now, through our Father’s power my desire rules the Footstool. I bring people’s truth out in them, warn of the consequences of sin & call on sinners to repent. Satan’s desires compelled him to kill, deceive & brag which to him was all a “piss take” in the most grossly perverted of manners for he knew whatever the outcome between him & me he was always a dead man. Strangest of all, our Father’s Creation Mankind turned against the Creator, how do you fathom that. Satan called that on earth which is in the Heavens. Jerusalem is a beautiful place in the Heavens while here on earth it’s namesake should be the very place where peace, love & goodwill to all should flourish from yet how long has it been a war zone & he changed the name of it’s country to his own, Blasphemy-Israel. Scientists said they could not understand how so much radiation emits from the Black Hole but no light. Boys & girls, I give you my Word of Honour which it is to be our Father’s Messenger, His Word for all our sakes. Inside THEE CAVE is Thee Sea of Fire where rejects perish into Eternal Death Judgement Day. The Father saith, “Because you have forsaken My Law, I will melt you.” Satan knew where he was deceitfully leading those that abide with his Satanic scriptures from the Cave. Three times, 1 for each challenge Satan denied me before that cock crowed while here he used the true faith with rotten administrators to sin in my name. Santa is an anagram of Satan where he tries to indoctrinate the youngest into his ways on the very day people celebrate my birthday although I was born a long time before & not from woman. That Bastard had a field day turning brother against brother now come together with me for the love of our Father. Muslim, Jew, I admire your strength in faith very much but despise your faith for righteousness sake. Everyone put your strength of faith in me & you are home & dry for evermore filled with the love of our Father. Tempus Fugit boys & girls. CHRIST.

To me, the differing end bits between Matthew and Luke can just as easily be explained as BOTH being legitimate as neither being legitimate (and most likely both being some combination of the two). Sure, we think of them as just following the strictly patriarchal line, but if you allow for any deviation from that at all you can get a totally different set of names, yet still arrive at a common ancestor later. As a sort of parallel example, if you look at MY family tree, there are a couple of oddities that could lead to exactly this sort of thing. In one case, a man from a more distant part of the country arrived and married a woman whose family owned land, in a situation where even as a daughter she ultimately inherited said land. Since people in that time and place often had farm names functioning as surnames, and she had familial land and he didn’t, the family name went with the woman, not the man - otherwise unusual. In another instance, widespread famine led people to take various desperate measures. A couple left their young child with relatives and set off in search of food elsewhere, and never returned. You can easily see how a genealogy would list that child’s “parents” as the people who raised him and were known to future generations rather than his biological parents who vanished from the record early on. And, yes, because of the way math works, you can follow at least 15 different branches of the family tree and ultimately work your way back to the same one guy - the only one moderately famous enough that people kept track of extra generations to note how they were related to him while other branches peter out into obscurity.
So, it certainly doesn’t seem like at all of a leap to me to say that Luke just took a different turn at some debatable/confusing junctions than Matthew did, with both tossing in some symbolically important bits for good measure along the way.
