  • G'day, guys! In today's video, I show you a few different variegated plants that have come from Bunnings and another nursery. These variegation mutations happen spontaneously and are considered quite rare and desirable in plants, particularly aroids like Monstera deliciosa and various Philodendrons.
    Connect with me on Instagram - / petevsplant
    ** SPOILER ** The plants include a variegated Philodendron bipinnatifidum (aka Philodendron Hope or now Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum ??) and two variegated Monstera deliciosa. An aurea and a mint variegated Monstera deliciosa.

    A tip for removing the awful soil from the roots of store bought plants- use a chopstick or the back of a paint brush instead of fingers, poking in and around the roots. Makes the process way faster and results in less damage. Then do a rinse to remove rotted roots, remaining soil, etc. Nice content!

    G'day Pete, I use clear waste paper bins from Kmart, use the soldering iron to make holes and cut to whatever size ya want. Kmarts near me all ran out so I bought Quadrant All Round Buckets (10litre) from Reject shop and again using the soldering iron then cut to whatever size you want. All just so I can perve on the roots.

    I actually did ask my local Bunnings in Bathurst and the head person for the Bunnings Garden Centre section said only peat moss because it holds the water as we know so they don’t have to water them all the time 😮. As they normally don’t have the time

    Hello Pete! There is a very nice guide on sport variegated monstera by Tyler Thrasher and how to spot what is a one-time mutation and what not. He is very well know to collect and study these types of mutations in monsteras!
    Your sport variegated plant look pretty stable to me, but the "minty" one might revert as a one-sided big blotch is usually not much represented in the cells of the stem.

    • @petevsplants7516
      @petevsplants7516  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@petevsplants7516 kinda a accidental purchase thinking the majority of them wouldn't grow because I ordered them in -26c in Montana. But now I got gifts for friends and family members. Plus might do some minor experiments with em. Moral of the story I didn't expect them to all grow so as you'd put might make it a game of the survival of the fittest.

    I also don't like these heavy water retentive medium when buying at bunnings or most nurseries. Azos is good stuff too. I use both.
    Pro tip: save a herb bottle/salt shaker and fill them. You have a ready made dispenser when repotting instead if the crazy scoop.
