    Fantastic. Super.
Can you afford to live in it?
    NO.
Pretty much sums up our society right now.

John's videos are always very powerful. Shame he didn't do a video on Sanders aimed at a US audience. great journalism.

"Rent control" and "citizens income". These are not new ideas.
Rent control has been in place in New York for over 70 years, and it has led to a housing shortage and some of the highest rents of any city in the world.
And the only solution to the welfare mess we are in now would be a program like the negative income tax, which never penalises people for getting a better job, making more money, and climbing out of welfare dependence.

There was a great write up in Private Eye regarding the huge Housing Benefit bill, it said that when Housing Benefit was created the government was told that unless social housing was built at a high rate & rent controls were forced on private land lords the cost of Housing Benefit would be unaffordable in the long term.

You've got a first and a second choice. You could still put Sadiq Khan in at number two if you find him preferable to Zac.

I do think that with modern technology it should now be possible to govern without the need for politicians.
Surely the job of politicians was to represent their communities and to present their feedback to parliament
but I get the impression that many of them aren't even born in those communities and are mostly busy with
    other things.
With things like twitter we can cut out the middle man but would still rely on a body of civil servants who
would basically do the bidding of the people. Internet technologies came about largely by voluntary inputs
with to IETF (www.ietf.org/) it was open to all including companies.

    • @dancingfishfilms
      @dancingfishfilms 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Interesting idea. As you say, the job of politicians is to represent the views of their people in parliament. However, on a lot of issues, ordinary people may feel they don't know enough to form a view. Ask your gran whether she supports the Bank of England and Financial Services bill. Ordinary folk don't have the expertise or the time to research all topics. MPs, on the other hand, have a responsibility to do so.
When we elect an MP, we (supposedly) choose the one trust to make decisions for us on things that we don't fully understand. If, as you suggest, we moved to a online poll based system we'd lose this benefit.

That's what civil servants would be there for; maintaining expertise and informing. Guess what even politicians can't and don't know everything even they rely in advisers or do the bidding of the party or their funders. They are not needed and can't be trusted.
Finer point like grannies knowing about fiscal policy is a red herring. Those who want to be involved can be involved if they want, and be heard. It's the same way the Internet developed. There were even teenagers providing valuable input on some aspects. What I'm suggesting is not forced on people, those who feel they are capable will come forward and give their inputs themselves.
There are people already working to cut out the middleman democracy.earth/

This needs an updated video to reflect changes like tax on working people going to work ULEZ Rising cost of living rising housing cost ageing population in certain areas
Lack of jobs for local people but bring in from overseas Train our own and something at the top of Londoners list Labour support for more young men from Albania to work in Drug and Crime Gang Industry which then fuels crime knifing shootings in London and Labour cheers more coming daily.

Take off my hat to this young lady ... London is broken as is the whole of the UK . Lets hope in the next election we can clear the rat filled swamp at Westminster and give a new political party a chance.
