Hands down best video on older seadoo engine rebuilds on TH-cam! Thanks guys!!
Thank you! Hope it helps
By far the best set of tutorial videos for the 787. Outstanding job.
Thank you so much
I have not seen a better video on rebuilding a seadoo two stroke motor. Great job
Thank you very much!
I am loving the way you do your videos! I wish I had you around to help me rebuild mine. I am determined to do it myself..so here’s a little lady watching all of your videos to figure this out!! Stay tuned and thanks for this very detailed video!
This might be one of the best youtube videos I've ever seen for a rebuild. Thanks
For the areas you don’t want to be blasted, put hot glue. It works great cause it bounces the sand/silica and is really easy to remove
Really cool, I have the same ski, had issues and had a pro builder do mine from the bottom up. Runs awesome !!!
Awesome video, much more in-depth than others on here. This will be very valuable in the very near future. Thank You!
Thank you for the positive feedback, glad this helps you!
I used to manage a SeaDoo dealership. I wish we had a few technicians like you rebuilding things.
Thank you so much for the compliment, much appreciated.
Thank you for these videos.
More informative than a paper manual and using current spec tools and chems, i have a new favorite channel to haunt. Thanks for taking the time.
Do you actively source 787 units on your own or do you have people supplying their cores for you to refurb.
Thanks!
@@michelangeloficarro8347 All the 787 engines are restoration rebuilds. I have a hoarding issue lol
I love the video man it's super HD and incredibly detailed really appreciate thanks.
Thanks!
I paid to get mine professionally built but man this is cool 😎
I’ll recheck the rotary timing, carbs are brand new jetted to stock specs, thank you so much on the reply.
Well done, thanks
Great video!
Thanks!
Great video! Wish you were close, I'd have you do my engine!
Best regards from Poland !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AWESOME!!! Thanks for the support
Great video.
Thanks!
dude, excellent job
Much appreciated!
This gives me so much confidence to do this now thank you!!
Awesome! That’s what we were going for. If you have any questions just ask.
@@TodayWeWrenchOkay so I do have a question haha. I have completely disassembled my engine and looking at the crankshaft it seems my seals (ones you talked about at 2:41) are bad. It looks like they partially melted off or ripped off when I took the crankshaft out. They aren’t completely gone and there is still a good amount of rubber left. Is there a way to replace those seals if they are bad? Or am I SOl and do I need to buy a whole new crankshaft. Thanks!
@@aidenstiles294 Unfortunately you would need to rebuild your entire crankshaft to replace those seals which requires special tools found at a machine shop. You're better off buying a new crank from WSM.
@@TodayWeWrench confidence lost just like that
@@c1anserv lol elaborate
Good job 👍
Thanks 👍
Amazing
Hey, you completely forgot about the o-ring that goes on the end of the crankshaft before the seal…very important…
EXCELLENT THANK YOU
You are welcome!
Hi there. Thanks a lot for the very informative and high quality video! One question: Is there not supoposed to be a metal retainer between the two inner seals? Thank you
Master mechanic wow 😯
Hahaha I don't know about that but thank you.
Your welcome man, very methodical and love the explanation of the gasket sealer on all mating surfaces, timing of the rotary valve etc. Excellent! I am picking up a 95 XP 8 limited. Is there a good place for parts? It looks to need a bar pad and a trim motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Awesome
Great info especially for a newbie like myself. Any recommendations on getting parts for 99 GTX RFI? I have to rebuild the whole thing, everything from the crank to the head, sleeves are destroyed as well. I heard you say OSD but i dont see everything i need. Thanks
Great video. Well explained and no unneeded yammering. A lot of people say to tight jugs after exhaust manifold is on else the manifold might not mate good. Thoughts on that?
I put the manifold on then snug them down just under torque spec so they won’t move. After that I remove the manifold and torque them down fully. I find it in my way while assembling the remainder of the engine. It’s an extra step my way but I find it more comfortable. Short answer, yes use the manifold to align then torque. I included a note in the video for that as it was 3 min I didn’t feel was necessary to include.
Awesome video.. do you build them for customers or your own ski's?
If so were are you located and how much do you charge?
Dealers won't touch these ski's anymore.. thanks and great video...
Where are you guy located?
How do you remove the 787 PTO 4 prong nut? Fantastic video
Hi, I had a question.
So we’ve completely rebuilt our 787 engine for 2002 seadoo gtx rfi, and believe we’re ready to drop the engine in. I was wondering if it’s necessary to add oil to the lower end prior to starting it. I assume you should bleed the oil injection lines but concerned about there not being any oil in the case when it fires up initially. Any advice you can give would go a long way! Great video, very helpful and in depth.
Thanks for the information. The only question I have is how do I check the inner seals on the crank to make sure they are good
You will have to preform the RV pressure test as demonstrated in the video
do you have a more in depth video on how to pressure test the engine?
Thank you! best video well done , question ware do you buy your piston kit ? had bad luck in amazon , please advise thank you.🤠
I get a mis around 6000rpm, similar to impeller cavitation. Also I get 2 beeps but I have to pull the Dess key off every time inorder to start it again. Sometimes it'll only rotate 3 times & quit during startup. The longer I run the ski, the worse it gets. I've replaced almost everything at this point except the coil pack. That's my next thing to change. Any insight would be greatly appreciated
Puedes hacer un.video explicando como hacer un trim.manual.para un sea doo???
Thank you very much. Saved me a lot of worries
Do you plan to make a video on how to replace the seals on the crankshaft and the counterweight? Please - big please -would be great for us
No we will not be covering that. You need a machine shop to do this as the average person will not have the tools to do that type of job.
@@TodayWeWrench Hey, with your help, we're no longer average people!! Thanks again for your support and your work
Nice work
Did you assemble the top-end Dry?
I am planning for rebuilding a 2 stroke engine and contemplating dry assembly (top end).
Do NOT assemble it dry....
At the VERY least, use some of the proper 2 -Stroke oil that you use regularly in your machine.
At what point does a person put new berings in the crank ?
How do you adjust the rave valves for the new pistons or do you just let the machine shop handle it?
Never mind I will wait for the next video.
Great video. I noticed you did not check the ring end gap in the video. Is that something you do but just didn’t film it, or do you skip that part? Thank you.
Ring end gap is done by the company we use to bore our cylinders. Its a good idea to check it but didn't want to muddy the water for people. A good bore shop leaves nothing in question.
What piston and gasket kit is that
Can this procedure be done on a 587 engine?
Do you have any idea if running the engine incorrectly timed, for a very short amount of time can blow out any seals?
My new engine was timed incorrectly to where it would start hard but require throttle to run.
It was only run for 20 seconds before I corrected the issue.
Broke the engine in, spark plug tuned it.
My oil injection is deleted and I have the feed and return just looped together, full of oil.
Initially I thought it was just air pockets that had to work out of the cavity, but I continue to have to add oil to my oil loop and im beginning to think that there cannot be any air pockets and that the motor is actually sipping oil from the rotary cavity.
Any insight?
Im going to fix up a way to "T" into it with a hand pump and see if I can pressure test it while its still fully assembled full of oil..
What's the reliability of these motors? Mines getting rebuilt, its a 99 speedster, both motors are getting rebuilt bottom up and I'm new to the 787s.
Not sure of your experience level, but that acetone will eat through concrete not sure if it’s good on engines.
great video---- need block off plate info -- thanks
We sell them. They are 150 for a set shipped in the Con. US
Hey I’m wondering would it be easier to find tdc before installing the head?
No
Quick question. How am I getting water into my starter can it come from crank case?
That would be pretty impossible. The water only fills the cylinder jugs so you would have to have a massive leak that bleeding into the crank case. If that was the case though the engine would hydrolock in a matter of seconds.
My question why didn’t you powder coat the engine cases and cylinder? If you have raw metal that’s going to corrode if you go into saltwater should have some kind of protectant on there.
Every engine is either painter or powder coated. We would never install a raw aluminum engine in anything let alone a watercraft
I see you use 518 on gasket surfaces AND on bolt threads as a thread locker. Why are you not using 271 or 272?
A great video series! I don't comment on many videos, but I really like your style and explanations...
I followed the instructions but im having backfiring issues I believe I put the flywheel and cup on. Does it have to be TDC and hole aligned tdc
yes the mag cup is flipped 180 sounds like
Was there no seal spacer that was to go on between the 2 inner crank seals ? Just noticed I never had one wasn’t sure if was missed or maybe not all had it
Between the inner crank seals? Are you referring to a 650 engine?
@@TodayWeWrench no the 787
What size piston sleeves and piston do u use
I send all of my cylinders to Full Bore. Visit fullboreonline.com
Can I change one jug without taking the engine out of the ski?
Yes we will do a video of a top end replacement while still in the ski in the near future.
no need gasket?
Help! You dont state how many pounds to torque down the sator house to main engine body.
Tight in a cross pattern as explained in the video. No torque spec but if you don’t trust yourself you can go with 7ftlbs and do the same for the cover.
So i ordered the Mag Housing Crankshaft Seal that you had listed. I dont think its right. Its small. Unless this goes somewhere else not shown in video?
I checked it and its the correct seal. Are you sure you didn't navigate to a different seal?
@@TodayWeWrench Ya your right. Maybe they sent me the wrong one. Good thing it comes in their gasket kit.
Great videos for the 787! I'm rebuilding my 787 for the first time. I have a few questions, can someone please help me out:
1. I applied the Loctite 518 last week. The website says it dries in 4 hours but after 1 week the 518 is still "sticky" to the touch. It never dried/cured. Is this normal?Maybe the one I bought off Amazon is a bad batch.
2. After assembling the engine, it takes a bit of strength to turn the flywheel. Is this normal? The best way I can describe it is the first 300 degree rotaton feels "tense" and the reming 60 degrees of the rotation is "smooth" with minimal effort. In your video when you turn the flywheel at the 17:00 minute mark it appears to be turning with minimal effort.
I appreciate any feedback!
518 drys when the oxygen is taken away. So your case surfaces are nice and sealed. The squeeze out will never dry, wipe it away with some acetone.
It should spin over freely. When you say "Assembly" cylinders and all are on? Are spark plugs in?
Thanks for the feedback! I'll wipe down the excess 518 with acetone.
The cylinders are on and the spark plugs are removed. It's currently assembled exactly how you have it at the 17:20 minute mark in your video. When I fully disassembled the engine the crankshaft and counter balance rotated freely and all the bearings are in great shape. The counter balance is placed on the correct timing mark with the crankshaft. Do you have any suggestions as to why the assembly is tense when I rotate the flywheel?
Thanks!
What would make my 1996 XP 787 back fire?
Rotary timing is off
Hi , i’m spanish ,i need your help to find to parts to rebuild a 787engine .thnks 👍🏻
osdparts.com
Do you have a part number for small Rotary Shaft Case C3 Bearing? The one that sits by the crank.

@@TodayWeWrench How many tubes of 518 did you use for one engine rebuild?
What crankshaft do you recommend?
Competitive Crankshafts, tell him Nick Jarman sent you over
Where do you recommend that I can buy my parts for my jet ski?
Are you looking for OEM stuff or aftermarket?
Does the counter balance assembly get oiled with the rotary shaft or are they completely separate?
It gets oiled through the drain back hole. I believe we showed it in the video
Thanks for the reply. Yes you did show that in the video. That is why I am concerned that I may have made a mistake, I gestimated when I filled the counter balance with oil because I thought it was going to get oil with the rotary shaft anyway. Do I have anything to worry about if I under or over filled the counter balance. This ski(96XP) has been up and running and ridden for a few hours.@@TodayWeWrench
@@davemall1 nope, some dont even put oil in them
I have a xp I would love to have you redo. How can I contact you?
What torque wrench are you all using? My Snap-On broke
Im using Gear Wrench
Do you have a link?
How much enegi ? Form Puerto rico
how many metal particle's did you breath in while using that high grit sander? lmao
did you not use red Loctite on the case bolts???
No you use 518. Red Loctite is totally different than 518. The manual DOES NOT call for red Loctite on anything
just re-read the manuals and caught that. you're right. do you think its necessary for red (217) loctite? i saw a lot of builds that they put red. but also that was for 951...... your video is the best and only 787! thank you! YOUR VISUALS HELP TREMENDOUSLY!
@@garrettgough6658 No use 518 on everything just like the video and you will be golden. I have done many engines this way with great results. This video is per the manual, if you see others using red Loctite its wrong unfortunately.
Do you sell engines ? I need a 787 engine
Damn wish I’d seen your vids about 6 months ago I just rebuilt my 1997 XP and mine turned out good but I didn’t seal stuff like you do now you have me wondering. Runs strong on the hose but when you put it in the water it just doesn’t want to go just putts and I have no idea tried everything. Need someone that knows the old 2stroke seadoos to look at it I’m out of things to try.
That’s one of two things. Rotary timing is off or the carbs need to be rebuilt.
Hey amazing video!
I would like to purchase one of your block of plate kits! I sent an email!!
Thanks! Out of stock on that item. We will have a store soon
Videos look great. I could just being bitchy, but the super shallow depth of field is making the camera focus time more apparent. It’s artistic but sometimes we’re looking at different things than the camera.
Start your own channel and show us how its done then
I cringed when you installed the Pistons without any lubricating oil.
Assembly lube in the cylinders.
