The amount of work on this 421 has been astounding! You’re time and effort has paid off exceptionally. Really never imagined you could have turned this one around to look so good!
The Massey Ferguson charcoal grey looks different to what i was painting the tractors at a dealer ship in Australia , Agco paint . Here it had more of a brown shade .Could be just the camera and light .The colour of the old 3000 series Massey . That colour combo looks great the red of the wheels looks like a Fendt red tractor wheel colour .
First of all, thank you for awesome videos! I love Unimog videos. Could you make a video showing how to check the Unimog before buying, check the main components and how to test it? Thank you!
Well, i like the ides. but the thing is, it it would actually be really hard, if not impossible to put that in one video, because there are so many different models and types of unimog, and also many different typs of engines, tranmissions and other equipment. So all i could be saying in a "Over-all video" would just be about things, that you would look for on any old truck. But thanks for the idea. ill see if i can think of somthing :) And also, Thanks for watching!
Really enjoying your videos, particularly the Mog ones. Something I'm sure you'd love to have in your collection but unfortunately won't barn find or get cheap is one of our Australian Bushmasters. I gather Ukraine military who got quite a few of them from us are really impressed with them.
Thanks a lot! And yes! i would love to have a Bushmaster! or even just the chance to drive one. :) unfortunately, i have never even seen one in real life. But they do look like very capable vehicles :)
This is certainly exciting. Been looking forward to this for a while. She's coming together very nicely. I do the same thing with the torque wrench. Double click and then go back and recheck everything again.
Thanks a lot! And yeah, it's become a habit. i do see it now and then, that you get a "false click" and then it takes a bit more, to get another click :)
I wanna say thank you for this video. It inspired my to also buy a Unimog and make a project out of it. I have a 1985 unimog 416 with 110hp and I’m slowly getting it ready for paint. I’m impressed with your work, good luck and keep this content going😎
I know your struggles. Working on my 421 is also going slowly. I'm still working on repainting the frame and axles etc, but had to break it down into even smaller bits. It got to the point where I had took off even the gearbox holding tube from the frame. The did it with just a brush and a roll. Doesn't have too look extra nice, as you say it's a working truck. Can't wait to get to the point you're already at. From then it's a bit more interesting work with redoing all the brakes and hoses etc. However, I'm haunted by the view of having to tackle the cab. That's going to be a lot of sanding, welding and painting again. Nevertheless: it's worth the while. I also want to add a little pedantry: It's not just the engines in modern Mercedes Benz trucks that are green. Even back then when your Unimog was build the truck engines were green, i.e. in the 406/403 Unimogs. However: The 422 doesn't have a truck engine. It's a car/light/medium? Duty engine hence it's black and silver. Which I would love my engine to be, but someone already painted it black and did a terrible job at it too.
Oh wow, that is Very extensive! I'm just glad i didn't have to go that far, with this one. But yeah, it's a ton of work to get to this point. but then, it all just get's more fun and satisfying aswell :) But just like you, i'm not really looking forward to doing the rust work in the cab. So i'm hoping that once everything else is more or less done, that will help motivate the cab repairs. haha :) And yeah, you are absulutely right about the engine colour. :) i don't really know why i said "newer" i really meant to say "Bigger" as i was trying to refer to my 416 'mog. that also has the bigger OM352. in that green colour :)
I would do the same it looks awesome for the frame that is sick!!!...I came from aircraft I would love to see that as aircraft paint is sooo durable there is also the self healing paint for that application but messy all in all fantastic luv it!!
👍👌👏 Oh WOW, simply fantastic! Great job. Congrats! Everything looks really good. I guess the green colour works well for the cabin too!? Is the common water tap on the air tank for draining purpose? Is a water tap really air tight respectively kind of pressure proof? Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health.
Thanks a lot! Your positive comments are always appreciated :) And as for the tap on the air tank, im thinking it was used for draining. or maybe it was just what they had, that would fit the hole. and somehow it works, and is actually air tight XD But no, it's really not rated for that kind of pressure, so it can actually be a bit dangerus. and it will be removed. But i just left it in, to block off the hole, while painting :)
looks fabulous. Good Choice on colours. I've done the same job so appreciate the amount of work in it. Have you started to patch the cab yet? Now that will be a lot of work. Really looking forward to seeing it finished. fantastic wee truck.
Thanks a lot! And no, i haven't started working on the cab yet. I hoping that if i get all the other stuff done, and looking nice, that it will then help motivate the cab project. haha :)
just amazing at your skill and content..was wondering if you could give us a synopsis of what influenced your interest in these iconic vehicles..and who taught you in your early ages? family members with a combo of self taught i would guess..am also inpressed with your fluency in the english language..keep up the great content and style of your videos..
Thanks a lot. i always appreciate your positive comments! And yeah, i might just do a kind of Q/A thing, at some point. if people are interested in somthing like that :)
An awesome restoration. Would anti-seize copper paste be something to use on the bolts? Rubber band between the fuel tank and the mounts or will the diesel eat the rubber?
Thanks a lot! And yeah, i do use copper paste on all bolts. (or at least where possible) And i actually tried to see if i could get some rubber in between, at the fuel tank. but turned out that there wasn't room for it, as the tank had to sit all the way down on the brackets, for the bolts to be able to fit through the holes. so i settled for a layer of the under-coating slime :)
@@KJOff-Road Thank you. Love your collection and it's nice to see your channel grow. 👍 I _did_ see the spray glue but didn't know if the rubber was something we don't get here in the U.S. I'm thinking .090" (2.25mm) EPDM roofing will work for what I have in mind.
Hah, yes, this should be right on the 421/406 series. :) But you are right. they are upside-down on the 404. and i don't really know why? (it's even the excact same part?)

>>"I`m not a professional, it`s a working truck" >>Goes ahead and paints it so the engine and the frame look like they just rolled out of the factory. Damn, i wish i was THAT kind of a non-professional.
Hahah, Thank you very much :) But i must say, the camera is forgiving. Once you get up close, there are a few spots where the paint has been running a bit, or is a bit too thin. and stuff like that :)
Esbjerg paint can actually tint paint to your desired colour in small batches. I don't know how you can order it, but they have a machine for it. "EFAmetal Maskinemalje fås i langt række ral farver.
Thank you for sharing your time with us all, Gerald, NZ.
Great work! I really like your viděla with unimog!
Very satisfying seeing this beauty come together! Thanks for the video brother.
Хорошая работа
Карамана братан 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I like the highlight of the red dip stick against the green engine
Great choice of colors and professional quality of work, you don't need a professional when you are one
Hello, you had save this unimog, lot of good work! Thank you for this vidéo story.
Enjoying watching this come along. One day I’ll be doing some restoration work to my ‘84 U1700L. Cheers from Aus!
It is interesting to see the inner workings of the suspension and drive train when so much is disassembled. Thanks so much !!!
It is looking fantastic and the colors you chose are perfect, in my opinion! Great job, sir!! Love your channel! 👍
Good job, and fantastic idea to show us the process.
You did an amazing job! I like the Detroit Diesel Green.
Quite a lot of hours. That's an understatement. Just cleaning an old motorbike takes a lot of effort, i can't imagine a whole Unimog.
She's coming along so nicely. Will be amazing! Great work. Thanks for posting.
A trick I learned a long time ago. Super glue the nut and washer together and when you tighten the nut, the glue gives way. Easy temporary hold.
Muito bom. Parabéns.
Solid work, man. Keep on Mogin'!
it's great to see the chassis and engine are clean, good job sir, greetings from Indonesia
Great job, turned out really nice! Nice video again!

If that doesn't look awesome, i wonder why the the word awesome was invented ;) Greets from Luxembourg, keep on building, just love it!
Looking good and coming a long realy well.
You've done a super job, looks stunning!
Very good, you will have in the end mean powerfull machine! You are very precise and keep up the good work!
Great work, yes it all takes much longer than you would guess... it can take awhole day to clean and repair just one small part.
very nice job, can't wait to see the rest
That's looking fantastic!

Is that a Buhanka besides the red Unimog….?
It sure is :)
oh also YOU NEED TO PUT A 1990 ISH INTERNATIONAL DT466 WITH THE ALLISON 1000 series transmission IN THAT FORD OHHH FU@! YA!!!
