Definitely go the restomod route, build a truck that you'll enjoy driving and that looks really cool, without killing yourself with tons of work. Make something that "you" think is cool and that puts a smile on your face every time you fire it up! Sounds like a great project. I've always admired the lines of the old Dodge Powerwagons. They just look like a really good, tough, simple and basic truck. Less is more. Keep it simple. Keep it fun. Can't wait to see what you make of it!!!
Another great video. As far as the restoration, I think a cargo bed, maybe with troop benches on each side. At any rate my feeling is if you make the restoration some reasonable project it's more likely to get finished.
Option G : put all the extra bits already restored on, swap the engine for a simple mechanical diesel and swap for a new box and camperize it a little (you already have millions of flatbead xD), keep the original colour and sell the original engine to a purist :p So that you have a somewhat drivable vehicule with a killer look and some history that you can actually use. Otherwise this may end up in a vehicule rolling out 2 days a year. Great video as always ;)
Very cool. This Week With Cars has one of these set up as a recovery truck. You could possibly find that capability useful at times and it most likely would not be very difficult to make from this one. Given it will never be matching numbers and it would take a huge amount of time and money it doesn't seem to me that restoration makes sense.
I know you had a lot of fun with your UAZ before you broke it,so how about looking into this for the Dodge...could be a lot of fun to build and use 🙂 Off-Road Truck Mud Race | Klaperjaht
Hej Kasper. Hilsen Gunner
He is correct: try to restore this PW to original conditions will take a lot of research, time, money, manpower. He is not a a museum. The better option is to get rid of box, make a bed he can use. Something practical and functional. He could use a military trailer to use as a bed. Many people does that with bobbed Deuces.
I really love the Dodge Power Wagon. I think option F with a bed is the right path for it. Make it enjoyable and interesting for you as it's not original. It should have value to you.
Personally i think having some fun with the truck would be better then to trying to restore it 100%, id rather see it drive around then sitting in a corner looking pretty and "original" Also red would make it go fasta XD
Hi my late father drove a later Dodge than the one you have here in UK the newer cab were called LAD cabs as they were used in Leyland,Albion, and of course Dodge respectfully I would love a good resto on not that you would do a bad one, as always regards from Scotland A Happy Christmas to you and you're respectful family 🇬🇧🏴🎥🤶🎅🙏🚚
Guess you could something like this? (lookup "Dodge Power Wagon In a Tow Truck Configuration) And "God Jul og Godt Nytår! til dig :-D And keep it simpel the restoration IMO
If I was making the decision, I'd bolt all the parts you have back on it, get it where it will start reliably, and sell it. I think this one needs more work than it's worth.
I personally would go with the flatbed .... it hasn't cost you anything, AND it's a vehicle you can use/ carry things on And while you're at it, have some fun ... better tyre's and go to a few off-road events like the last one you did Otherwise, i personally think that all you're going to do is put a LOT of time and money into a " non original " vehicle and then end up selling it for less than you put in it !!
I know you restore everything to original and are great at doing so, but I'm going to suggest something to do out of the norm and don't know if you could legally do it there, but if you can what do you think of putting the old fire chiefs cars body onto a unamog frame. It won't be restored but it would be original.
Option F, build it so you will use it! Is this gearbox a borg and warner 4 speed T18 or T18A? The first gear is a low ratio unsinchronosised, in my 1977 jeep cj 5 is the same gearbox build Greetings from müllingen near hannover
I think, like alot of the folks commenting, I'm most excited by option F as you put it, for a variety of reasons that folks have already mentioned. I'll add my own argument in favor of option F though. If you turn this old power wagon in to something you like to drive and can use, like a flatbed, more people will actually see it as there will be less time spent in restoration and more opportunities to actually use the vehicle. That gives more people more opportunities to connect with the military heritage of the vehicle, even if not original, when compared to it sitting at home unused or unrestored. Cheers from Alaska
Because a lot of stuff has been collected for building this ambulance truck I would think about going this way or find someone who wants to go this way and sell it to him or her. Better focus on your other projects.
make it original like a dodge, no chassis swap like some poeple call it to put a classic cabin on a modern car, and change little things to have a cool useful truck (whats a problem with this engine, maybe a diesel swap would be ok). I would make it my daily. put some comfort in it (termical and sound improvements, seat, and so on) but only small changes, nothimg like a digital dash or stuff.
Watch out for the old Primera - IF it is a UK GT ? with the 2.0 diesel it would be a rare one - [Washington built lhd diesel] if not its a scrapper !!!
Option F with a twist - trayback with lockers for tools and recovery gear? The Primera might make a fun tribute to '90s touring car racers. Volvo famously entered the 850 estate in the BTCC (after figuring out that the longer roof gave it a slight aerodynamic advantage over the saloon within the rules of that season), and the Primera saloon did well in the same series a few years later. Maybe fix the rust and paint or vinyl it in a tribute livery?
sell it and reinvest in to your unimogs that thing requires too much work in my opinion. someone who deals with dodges might be in better position to deal with this unfortunate basket case.
I would just wait and sell it to someone who will restore it to any restomod. Stay with the Unimog and the Magirus, don't start a new project. And please don't spoil this historical vehicle with that F-option. That would be the worst.

A bed like the original civilian power wagon truck, or a flat bed would be cool
I think the flatbed idea is the best solution. Less work and more fun! Greets from Luxembourg 🙂
Option F!
Another great video. Love that you’ve found another project before finishing the others. A man after my own heart
from Canada, restomod........really enjoy the show. Merry Christmas, it is 20th of December here.
Off road adventure camping setup. Old school.
Another great video. As far as the restoration, I think a cargo bed, maybe with troop benches on each side. At any rate my feeling is if you make the restoration some reasonable project it's more likely to get finished.
I love the old Chrysler L-Head (flat head) 6-cylinder engines. They were simple and dependable.
should name the Magirus..Mr.McGoo..hilarious character who rises above the bedlam and continues on...loved this cartoon as a wee lad..
Finally a video from a youtuber of culture 😎

Resto-mod to your standards. And have fun with it! Merry Christmas & a Happy and safe New Year.
The resto mod options I think is the coolest and something different
The answer is always FUN. As you said it's already "historically compromised"

The black cable on the starter on the ford 555 is a ground cable..
Get rid of the box, build a bed for it and have fun with it 🙂

Also vintage pw carrys the manuals and instructions badges good luck

Resto-mod is great so it can be put back on the road...
He is correct: try to restore this PW to original conditions will take a lot of research, time, money, manpower.

Many people does that with bobbed Deuces.
Have fun with the Dodge, go the resto-route; make it into a colourful dune-buggy.

Go the fun route

Option F. Open bed/flatbed and a Willock-style swivel frame would be cool.
If I was making the decision, I'd bolt all the parts you have back on it, get it where it will start reliably, and sell it. I think this one needs more work than it's worth.
Repurpose as a pickup truck with removable stake pocket sides and rear.
Is this the new Spin Tires game?
Hi KASPER,I would go resto mod for the Dodge ,Happy holidays for you and your family from Richard in Canada.
Off road outlander camper van for the old truck

The Power Waggons are so common, many are used to drive graduated high schoolers around, so it's not as interesting to me as your other vehicles.

Put it back together and play with it then see what would work best. As David Freiburger would say Don't get it right get it running.
Option F, build it so you will use it!

Keep it, and turn it into a transport. Put a bed on it.
Option 3 would be a great build ya could use and enjoy.

3rd gen hemi swap? ;)
Watch out for the old Primera - IF it is a UK GT ? with the 2.0 diesel it would be a rare one - [Washington built lhd diesel] if not its a scrapper !!!
It sounded like a petrol engine to me. Have another listen when they arrive at the yard
Option F with a twist - trayback with lockers for tools and recovery gear?

I say go in the direction of gearz did with his power wagon and build something like sergeant rock you can find it on TH-cam

There's an idea
If there is a cheap easy way of doing any job take that route first - also - RED PAINT IS CHEAP !!!
I vote for option F, flatbed, bigger tires, upgrade the suspension, maybe someting with more power like a modern turbo diesel
sell it and reinvest in to your unimogs that thing requires too much work in my opinion. someone who deals with dodges might be in better position to deal with this unfortunate basket case.

restore to original piece.
