The first time I saw Manuel live was in 1981 or 82, when he played this concierto with the Winston Salem Symphony. It was the first time since college that he’d played in front of Aaron Shearer (who had moved the guitar dept from Peabody to NC School of the Arts). The guitar dept, 16 strong, made up most of the front row. Manuel’s performance was beautiful, flawless, magical. The standing ovation took a few minutes before Manuel was encouraged to grace us with an encore, “a short sonata by Paganini.” I saw some looks of disbelief on the faces in the violin section, yet they were the first off their seats when he finished. I am so looking forward to Manuel’s 50th anniversary concert in Baltimore in a few months.

In my opinion the most beautiful piece of music ever written for any instrument - and played by a master.

Sr. Manuel is such a nice gentleman; I saw him in 1996, and after the recital he was so kind to spend another half an hour or so, answering the audience's questions about the music. It was a unique experience!

The most beautiful recording in the world from Aranjuez. Barrueco's sound is and will always be unique. Add to that the exact articulation of each score. I hope to hear Manuel live in Germany soon.

Extraordinary piece of history !. ... Maestro Barrueco always placing the guitar at the highest of levels, where it belongs, and where he belongs !. A bit frustrated though because the film director gave preference to other instruments in parts where the guitar needed to be seen (not only heard), having the role it has as the main actor of this performance.
