Mauel Baruecco prowadził wtedy Mistrzowskie Kursy w Castres. Był to wspaniały festiwal na którym wystapiła plejada gwiazd (m in oprócz M. Baruecco wystapił Paco de Lucia bracia Assad i welu innych). Wspaniały czas, wspaniały festiwal i oczywiście znakomity, doskonały Mistrz Baruecco. Pozdrawiam
I meet personally Manuel Barrueco in the 1982,3,4 (not sure) in Boston. He performed a flawless recital at Berklee College of Music. The recital was extraordinary, but Manuel Barrueco is still a greatest humble human being. He speaks Spanish perfectly because his Cuban root. I love you, my brother ! Manuel te felicito de todo corazón. Recibe un gran abrazo, Humberto Bruni
It takes my breath away, for all of us who are guitar aficionados it is a true dream just to believe maybe someday. To all of you who can perform at this level, my eternal respect and admiration!!!
Manuel - you take the cake and all of the cookies too. There is no one like you.* God Bless and keep you practicing. You'll always be number one in the spotlight-the Champ! *The elegance, the musicality, perfected technique, understanding and your own stamp of originality and beauty. It's not easy being the best but someone has to do it.
Had a master class with him in 81, he was about the same age as in this video. His technique was absolute perfection as is his tone. Very polite despite my amateurish attempt at VL étude #1. What I remember most was how loud his playing could be without a hint of harshness. I've never heard his equal.
Barrueco looks like he can play anything. Such a talented musician. This person was blessed with a wonderful karma (and we are all better for it). thanks for uploading.
This upload introduced me to the works of Chick Corea. I can't thank you enough for that. Thank you so much, I'm a richer person now than I was a week ago.
Braaavo, maestro Barruecos!!! What musicianship, what technique! By far, this is my favorite performance of the Rodrigo Concerto Aranjuez. Thanks so much, VCguitar. (Part of the foundation of my enjoyment of this performance is also the camera work, obviously accomplished by a musician with intimate knowledge of Rodrigo's masterpiece.)
Manuel Barrueco will be in Nashville TN to perform with the Nashville Symphony on 10/02/15. World-renowned classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco makes his first-ever appearance at the Schemerhorn on American composer Jonathan Leshnoff’s Guitar Concerto, a Nashville Symphony co-commission that will be recorded live in Laura Turner Concert Hall.
IMHO this is the best performance I have heard of third piece, also the best sound recording. All of the solos are played with amazing virtuosity and feeling.
I was looking for something else and I found this concert. It was a surprise for me to find this brilliant, excellent guitarist. His technique is perfect which it doesn't diminish his quality as performer, his sensibility. Bravo!!!!
One of the best concerts I've ever been to was Manuel and Al DiMeola. Manuel played about 40 minutes, Al played about 40 minutes, then they played another forty minutes or so together! All for a measly 15 dollars to sit ten rows away!
Beautiful and soulful renditions just make you feel such emotions and I you get lose in the music! THIS IS THE STUFF OF DREAMS. Close your eye and just let it carry you away.
I do recall it being a Ruck, his attack was this perfect combo of nail and flesh at the same time which made for a very round tone, not thin at all. I think it also allowed him to play more forcefully when required but I never heard the guitar get "overpowered". The Assad brothers would be at the other end of the spectrum, very quiet but still great technique and interpretation. Manuel just made your jaw drop, what a honor to have experienced that.
Flawless playing. Cannot wait to see Manuel play a solo concert this spring. How did audiences become so uneducated about classical music and start clapping between movements of a concierto.
amazing. so good it nearly hurt. beautifully played, such a master indeed. To the person who ticked dislike....is there no other way in life you can get noticed? its so sad.
scrollandkey He did several mistakes if you want to make listening to this concert about finding errors. Do you really want me to point them out? Is that a great interest of yours?
Like the other musicians in the room, the conductor has a musical score in front of him that shows all notes and rhythms to be played. He looks at it periodically to make sure everything is being played properly.
In music you must understand that the virtuous is not the most important, because... there will always be someone that plays faster, that sing higher (and lower), etc. Manuel Barrueco virtuose is not in the speed he plays, but "how" he plays. You will listen to ALL notes of the music, played on the right time. He is perfect, in this meaning. Because it is not necessary to create when you play (someone's music), but follow the music score. The music is there, the composer' soul is there!!!
I LOVE your definition of "virtuosity." I think it's spot on and even copied it out for when I need encouragement. Having said that, something was brought to my attention that I feel maybe you forgot to mention: connection to the audience. LOTS of guitarists are virtuosos in the sense of your definition, but end up leaving me cold and unsatisfied. Then there are lots of guitarists that aren't that great - even "bad" by your definition that spoke and continue to speak to their listeners.
+Joel Salazar You're right, it;s De Niro! If you check out the poster to the silent film, "West of Zanzibar," you'll find that De Niro was also Lon Chaney.
Muchas gracias.
Hi. I am a professional classical guitar teacher and performer for many years. First: virtuosity is not only speed, but speed+volume+clear articulation+technical control with freedom, and all technical qualities together.Second : yes, speed is not the most important, but to be more correct:it is one of the most important tool of a virtouso's hands. Other comments about Barrueco is correct-I think, although he is not perfect but close to perfect.Performersarerecreatorswithrespecttothecomposers.
It is very interesting how the cadenza of this concerto manages to get most guitar masters very stressed out. Barrueco is no exception. The most unbeliavable faiulres are at 13:42 and 14:58. Barrueco could play this with his feet, however he flunks at the most importart part of the most important piece of music for his instrument as many others do (Pepe Romero, Paco de Lucia, etc). Very interesting.
Just saw your definition of "virtuosity" on a Manuel Barrueco concert. Excellent. Gives me a LOT to think about. Since you're a teacher, I was wondering if you could direct me to any "stand out" classical performers and/or albums I should look into to see examples of "virtuosity" in this beautiful art form. I'm new to classical guitar, but I'm quickly falling in love with the lyricism and "poise" of the instrument played well. Why more people aren't absorbing this beauty is quite beyond me!
With this kind of talented man then who care about mistakes. Let sit back and show some appreciation.

If some of you agree, lend a close ear to Sr Barrueco's recording of several Bach violin works, circa late 90's. Dude's dialed in. Magnifique !!
Hubert Käppel, a german guitar virtuos, is a same excellent quality :)

Wow. A taste of heaven!!!
Do people always fixate on a human error?
Mistakes happen people!
Try playing it as skillful as he does!
The man is a GREAT guitarist!
Charisma : something new on the classical guitar.
Flawless playing. Cannot wait to see Manuel play a solo concert this spring. How did audiences become so uneducated about classical music and start clapping between movements of a concierto.
Manuel Barrueco and the Robert Ruck guitar, the combination that changed classical guitar history!
... Bloody brilliant...
Barrueco siempre tocando absolutamente perfecto

What an outstanding performance!!! Barrueco plays the guitar like the same God of music. The best performance of Aranjuez Concert I ever heard
didn't you hear the mistake at 14:59 ?
nop! I will check it up.
scrollandkey He did several mistakes if you want to make listening to this concert about finding errors. Do you really want me to point them out? Is that a great interest of yours?
ok- I did not see the mistakes whe he played.
I shall better change my mind about the "outstanding concert"
Víctor Julio González No, the point here is to ignore the mistakes and enjoy the playing.
Shreds Leyenda

He has so much talent! Also omg the second song was totally in "School of Rock."

Robert De Niro at 8:27. He seems to play very well.

Thanks

Interesting choice of playing Chick Corea with Rodrigo, Sor and Albeniz.
