This is wild, I see so many single use vapes littered everywhere. Yes, companies must be involved in these efforts. Thanks for the good word!

if you see used vapes simply discarded on the streets, and you have the tools to do so, disassemble them yourself, throw the plastics/metals etc etc into your general mixed recycling, and salvage the Lithium cell. Those Lithium Cells can have a new lease of life in an electronic appliance, and being single use vapes, these cells have only had one charge cycle applied to them, so they still contain almost full capacity. They can easily be recharged again and again if you salvage them from these devices.

I actually saw something like this in the news not so long ago, and I am not surprised. Every time I see a vape that is intact and not damaged, I pick it up. I then manually disassemble it, throw most of the guts into mixed recycling (taken by the council provided bin collection service), and salvage the Lithium cells.
The smaller ones you find in shops have a capacity of 500/550mAh, which (for the size of the cell) really isn't too bad at all. The larger square ones (usually identifiable by the "3500 puffs" claim) have really generous 1500mAh cells inside, which is well worth having in a portable electronic project.
And of course, you can connect them in series (to provide a higher voltage) or in parallel (to provide more capacity).
Don't delay, strip apart used vapes today!

In Australia there is no where that takes vapes to recycle them. There are places that take batteries so I was thinking of taking the battery out of the vapes if i can learn a safe way to do this. Any advice?

To recover the cell , best to snip the wires or de-solder ( NOT rip apart ! as in video ! ) ... when recharging , it is VERY important not to let the voltage rise above 4.2 Volts , so should you use a USB ( at 5 Volts ) you should incorporate a small regular silicon rectifier diode ( 1N4002 ? ) ( NOT a Shottky diode ! ! ) + 10 Ω resistor in one of the leads to drop the voltage ( the resistor limits the current to a safe value ! ) also the little air sensor can be made into a touch switch ( there are You Tube videos ) , but this is VERY fiddly as the parts are tiny ! ! and NEVER short out a charged cell ! ! ..... Are those considered E-waste?

Hi @j.lietka9406, yes vapes are considered e-waste! And, like anything with a plug, battery or cable, they can be recycled.

Hello. I liked your video. I am very concerned about reusable vapes and think that they should be banned. In the meantime I am converting them into small powerbanks. I am very interested to hear what you do with all of the batteries that you harvest from these vapes. Did you know that a bunch of guys in the Ukraine are using them to produce large power banks for their troops?

The Li-Po cells from these vapes should be re-used (where possible), since they've only had 1 charge cycle (being single use) and as such will contain almost all of their rated capacity. I always manually disassemble the ones I find.
Maybe I should start a vape recycling scheme or something... especially since some vapes contain batteries as large as 1500mAh!
