    i've been collecting these for about a year now., i have bout 100 batteries. i have lots of 550mAh, A ton of 650mAh and loads of 1500 mAh, i've made my own 18v battery using 3x1500mAh making 4500mAh per cell. then x5, i use it on my old 80s boombox, it takes 10 dcell batteries, but i checked the voltage from the transformer to the main board and it read 20v, so 18v doesn't harm it, for charging the batteries i did use a laptop charger and it worked but i've since realised it can harm the cells so i've linked 5 usb boards to each cell to be safe and to make sure they live a happy prolonged life :-) i hate that people are throwing them away, i know i've collected a lot, but that must be tiny fraction of the ones that are not saved.

      It is hard to walk past them, when they are laying in the street, especially when you can equate them to £1 coins 😁🥇🪙I probably have more than I will ever use, and I still pick them up when I see them, although I do ignore the ones that have been squashed flat 🤣

      @@thatyoutubeguy7583 The Little Charger Boards i use are TP4056, they are kind of like a BMS-ish, i mean when they get low i just plug the usb cable in, a red led lights up, and when they are charged it changes to blue, and as for actually using them raw without a BMS, its not that bad, they don't get hot while in use because the boombox isn't very greedy, batteries will mainly get hot when they are driven hard, if they were used with something like a drill, that might get them toasty, but my boombox was made in around 1983, the batteries that were out then were very low mAh, so these home made ones run it easily. as for finding them, i don't see them anymore, i see maybe 1 a fortnight, i think supermarkets and shops have started placing bins there for people to dispose of them properly.

      My boombox uses 12V (actually has a D cell battery compartment) and I just made 3S battery with ballancing BMS ... For charging, I actually use the rectified voltage from the transformer built inside the boombox.. ..works like a charm for 5 years already .

      Yes, it would be good to make use of the other components. One suggestion was to use the heater element and vapouriser for a model train steam or model car exhaust. I do remember seeing a video on the car exhaust idea. Bigclivedotcom looked at the electronics with his usual reverse engineer detail.

    It is better to charge each cell individually before connecting them in paralel. Your charger is not able too see voltage in each cell.

    • @GrandadsOtherChannel
      @GrandadsOtherChannel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You are right, but can you measure the difference? As you can see, this works fine. If you were planning to use them in series rather than parallel, then you really do need to include balance leads for the individual cells. In parallel, they balance themselves. When we are just looking at small capacity cells like this all nominally the same value, we are not talking large currents, but if you are interested in charging much larger packs in parallel, you might like to read this article oscarliang.com/parallel-charging-multiple-lipo/

  • @blakey271able

    Parallel charging is fine but the batteries voltage should be within 1/10th oa a volt before you connect them together so say between 3 4v - 3.5v ect because the lowest battery will drain power from the highest battery after they've been connected together you should be fine charging and discharging

      @@GrandadsOtherChannel I meant no disrespect it is awesome to see people putting these things to use as I do finding so many on the street. I fly rc Drones and planes and do build a few battery packs I mainly meant my comment for any newbies trying the same and Oscar liang does make the same statement regarding voltage matching but yes of course with these little 500mah batteries it would most likely be OK but if one was drastically lower then the others you could at the very least damage the pack you are trying to make. So for anyone trying this I do believe a healthy lithium battery voltage is between 3v and 4.2v and I personally would discard a 2v battery as tested using a multimeter. Once again I apologise I enjoyed the video and am currently building a pack for a 5v led strip in the wardrobe I even have those same charging modules. Great video and I genuinely mean no disrespect

      @Alberto Speed normal electronics applies. Batteries in parallel the capacity is added, voltage divides. Batteries in series, capacity divides, voltage adds. So two 4v 500mAh Batteries in parallel gives 4v 1000mAh. Two 4v 500mAh batteries in series give 8v 500mAh.

      The trouble with asking for advice from "a guy on TH-cam" is you never know if they are right or wrong. And the problem with answering people's queries is I never know what level of understanding you have. For example, do you intend to put the "2pcs" in series or parallel? What is their current rating? What type of batteries are they? How do you intend to power the circuit? That is why I suggest it is better to read the specification. The TP4056 is just the chip, so the specification will vary depending on what circuit board the chip is fitted to. Some boards include overcharge protection and over-discharge protection. Most boards default to a 1A charge rate. Some boards require a resistor to be changed to match the charging current required. Some boards have adjustable potentiometers. The list goes on 😁@@AliAhmed-ls2uo
