Excellent episode and one I have not been privileged to see before. Thank You for sharing! Looking forward to part two and seeing the finished project.
Why aren't these people held accountable for the destruction of the homes they cause. If they were held accountable then maybe so many contractors and workers would stop stealing the money and leaving a mess in the way they do business.. use to a hand shake the person's word was gold. If someone said they could and would do the job, it got done. SMH. I feel so bad for these home owners.😢
The problem is that there are always bad contractors to replace them. These guys can only do a couple projects before they are out of business. They build a shed or a deck and think 'I can reno an entire house'. As a homeowner you can always avoid this by simply asking for a few past reference projects. If a contractor can't give you any, run.
@@jackt6595 References haven't matter in too many cases. At the time of these Holmes experiences, there weren't enough laws that one could attach to and so he works to create a better system for everyone.
One thing that stood out is that for a gut/reconstruction of this scale the bad contractor still put the ductwork in the attic, i can kind of see it when your adding hvac to a house that didnt have it and your leaving the walls and drywall up.
You also have to get the RIGHT 105, they are digitizing several different Holmes shows. Make sure full title matches. This really IS it, same couple (though they don't show until the reveal at the end) /KohLLIMkM9I
I had undersized beams under a flat roof, I ran some calculations and worked out that I could flitch them - quarter inch steel plates each side of the beams. Real cheap. Bolted through on 24” centres, it has two 36” square motorised Velux and you can jump on the roof and it doesn’t even bounce!
should work good, provided the steel 'plates' can be wide enough not to start 'wave' with the wood and that the wood stays at an even temprature so it not 'flexes' because just like roots might work slow but always win out over any stone work , so will wood in the end twist metal into a tangled mess if it 'moves' combining the strengths of 'living' material and 'cold' /dead material is rad but be dam sure to do it right or the dual edged nature of each will fight each other ;) makes me curious though , sounds like your walls hade its frame work better 'scaled' was the roof 'renovated' at some point as i never heard of a professional making good walls but under strength roof beams ?
Seeing that tells me that there is/was something wrong with the laws in that country. I'm from Germany and if it is a contractors fault that property gets moldy and family history, documents get lost etc. the mandatory insurance of the contractor has to pay to fix that.
Heck. I worked 3 seasons in construction as a laborer and 3 years in water and fire damage restoration and still know 100 times more than this contractor did.
Where is part 2? Are the numbers the episodes? This is 104. Than a few days ago I see New Orleans 104? Please tell us how to navigate your videos, Thank you!
38:30 ish 'parch up the bottom of the stone a bit'' or how he put it hmm , that... i like the thought buuuut , since its the fact that dry stone 'sucks' the moisture out of concrete before it gets a chance to 'burn' and thus it never starts to 'grip' in the stone itself just burns as a dry mass between the stones i'd say 'water' the stones a bit instead not soaking wet like he said just like you dont want liquid cement you dont want 'crying' stones either ,but moisten them juuust right and they wont 'steal' the condensation of the cement and instead said cement will just have time to settle with it , 'grip' at the stone and fuse to it as it burns nice and solid , but well thats just my 'layman' understanding of it from the glimpses through the years in ''do everything & proffesional life as x'' in the family when they talked and one 'assisted' ^^ so maby its all the same just being 'american' tv its presented in a crap way as always
do love that they try to salvage material ,but with a brutal eye to if its still quality or not not to mention ''hey give me 30 k for 'custom kitchen cabinent hatches etc'' , when the idiots left the house exposed to rain and not even put in the already payed for doors , garage gates , walls , roof etc not even if half way done yeee , ever heard of scams ? a key thing in those is to milk the target for more cash without delivering whats already payed for :/ regulation regulation regulation! , ensures all contractors are held responsible regardless how many 'company' name changes or 'department' semantics they do , and that the 'small' people victims is supported by society safety net to bring in new professionals if need be
Theres absolutely no way I would give a “contractor “ like Mike 100% control and power of designing MY HOME its my home and I want it done my way not someone who thinks they know what I like
The homeowners were absolutely desperate here. Their house was basically destroyed. Mike comes in and turns it around; labour is free and the homeowners pay for the materials. Even if they don't like the end product, the house becomes saleable again and they can move on. I would allow Mike to do it in a blink of an eye if I were in a similar situation.
@ravenseft I get why Mike took this approach. A lot of money was scammed by the first contractor. Money is tight. Mike can cut material and labor costs with open concept. Partition walls require lumber to frame, drywall, and paint. Plus the labor. I agree it's better to get the house saleable for the homeowners.
Can't wait for part 2 😊
It's on Tubi (it's a free app). At least in Canada 😊 (S01:E05 - Caught in a trap Part 2)
I am so happy Mike and his amazing Work Crew, and the Trades are there to help this couple. I cant wait to see the finished project!!!
Love Martin's hesitation at 33:00 at using the word plumbing to describe what was in the house.

How do I find the rest of this re-build footage? I would have liked to view start to finish on this Holmes video.😢
Unacceptable is a BIG understatement. !
You couldn't ask for the best help you could get with Mike Holmes. Just an encyclopedia of construction information and how to do it right.
ok LONG TIME watcher... best line so far by Holmes... we have the technology, we can do it.
It says 104 but 105 is something different, is there a 104 part 2? Hopefully it's uploaded soon...
105 is part 2. This was split into 2 episodes.

This channel is unbelievable, every time they have a two part episode they never post one after the other!
Looking forward to seeing part two
need part 2!!
34:27...the ripples in the water bottle from the jack hammer...Impact Tremors!!!!!!!!!!
34:27 I love the new GE washer/dryer combo. Save time for me and money since it only uses 110 plug.

That racoon got me😂

O my gosh I need to see part two!!!
need part 2 now lol
Mike , The Song by Elvis is titled '' Suspicious Minds ! ''
How do these thieves get away with it. Where's the justice for the home owner?
Mike told his crew to "Glue and Screw" the flooring and they did not use any glue!
Last time we had to wait weeks for part 2
Heck. I worked 3 seasons in construction as a laborer and 3 years in water and fire damage restoration and still know 100 times more than this contractor did.
If he could bring in someone who could visually draw a map of the floor when it was finished it would be amazing for us visual learners.
Where is part two of 104?
Where is part 2 ?
They should have purchased a ready made home.
The song is called "Suspicious Minds" 😂😂😂

What happened to the rest of the work? What is happening to the second floor? Victoria 🇨🇦
The guy in this ad is a fool. Doesn't he realize that she will say anything to get in office but once she is in watch out
This is a new haws!
Can’t say LVL doesn’t sag. They will if not supported correctly.
Part 2 !!!!
I know someone who has AC in the attic its cool and does not stay on very long
I watched this episode some time ago.
Where's part 2?
Why, oh why put ductwork in again when there are so many better alternatives?
Swimming pool in Canada, bold.
PART 2
What a terrible experience, shame on the contractors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!inexcusable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where's the rest of the episode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who pays for all this work?
production company or combination of production and homeowner
Home owner and production strike a deal on % for materials....All Labor is free !
There’s no Heaven on Earth.
omgoodness - all those ants gives me the heebie jeebies
Hmmm kinda like the bad contractor just up an left. Part 2?????

Wish this show called out the contactor by name. So people knew who there were, and their names and company got ruined
Please tell me you had an exterminator in...
Part 2? I see another video up and it’s not it!

Quit giving scam artist money
At this point I'm surprised home remodeling hasn't been banned for that reason
It like certain contractors hire the wrongs workers without any questions and terms etc
How do you KNOW who is a scam artist and who isn't????
@@Runco990 Simple get the addresses of his last three jobs and go talk to those homeowners.

They DO work with the homeowners behind the scenes. But it's not in the episode for time and story telling reasons.
I'm not a fan of extreme open concept. It feels too much like a barn. I hope the homeowners were consulted. They could raise livestock in there.
@@rayvoorhies7180 trust me its not open concept at all if Mike Holmes is involved he loves building shoeboxes for people to live in
