Another change from the books that I really felt undermined a character's entire intrigue(?). What made Barty Crouch Jr interesting as a villain (aside from being Barty Crouch's son) is that the entire book you're really uncertain of whether or not he was actually guilty. Even after it's revealed that he's the imposter, he's portrayed as being so brilliant that he could pass himself off as Mad-Eye Moody even to freaking DUMBLEDORE. Making him an obvious madman in the movies threw all of that out the window.

In the books Karkarov didn't tell Baty's name while he was questioned. Barty denied his guilt and pleaded his father to believe him, while they held one court hearing for four people at once (Barthy, Bellatrix and Lestrange brothers), and that's why Barty as a character is much more interesting there. The reader didn't know was he a Death Eater in the first place or was he falsely charged. Also the reader doesn't know that Barty is alive and works for Voldemort till the end, while in the film Harry sees him in the dream in the very beginning. That ruins all plot line of Barty or at least changes its tone completely. Also he was 18.5 years old at the time of hearing.
