You know what blows my mind that someone who made this 50 years ago had no idea that some TH-camr is going to unbox this and upload this on a thing called the Internet.
This takes me back to 1975 when my wife and I bought 10 cases of C-rations. At $1 a case we couldn't go wrong. My wife was pregnant so she got all the canned fruit. I got all the unfiltered and menthol cigarettes. The Turkey and noodles, Chicken with noodles, and tuna with noodles all tasted and looked the same. The beef and gravy had a layer of fat on top about 1/4-inch thick. There was a beef with noodles that we would mix with the beef and noodles for dinner. I got the beans and weiners, beans with meatballs, and spaghetti with meatballs for lunch. There were some chocolate covered cookies that tasted pretty good. There were some that tasted like soap. There was also pound cake, fruitcake, and orange cake. Whenever we were playing wargames we were issued C-rations. I'd collect the fruitcake from the guys that didn't like them. I'd take them home and go to work. A piece of cheesecloth soaked with about an ounce of liquor, put it in a tin, then in the fridge for 6 weeks. That made them highly edible. Thanks for bringing back some good memories.
My dad said not to pour off the oil in the peanut butter or canned cheese. You light it and use it to either start your fire or like sterno to cook your main course. Try it!
Chicken and noodles! Yep! And Pall Malls too?? The peaches literally turned my stomach when you opened them! I had a stroke about seven years ago and lost my memory function from about junior high on. I know that I was in the Corps and served in Nam because it's on my DD214. But there's only a few memories that are still there. Now that I've seen your vids I have a clear picture of sitting on a sandbag and eating. I also remember coming back from ops and getting disarmed at the wire and receiving a bottle of Chevas Regal. Still don't remember any of the four times I got shot. That's good.
I know you've probably hear this hundreds of times but have you ever thought of going to a hypnotherapist so you could make an attempt to reclaim some lost memories? There are so many different methods that work to bring back some of what you lost :) I would suggest doing some digging online to see if you could find something that you might want to try. Hope you're doing ok and thank you for keeping us safe!
I was in Vietnam in 1966-1967.We were in Long Binh did no see too many C rats but we found another use for the peanut butter, mixed with insect repellant made a good long burning fuel then we could heat up the noodles which were not too bad.Another ration that I liked was the ham and eggs take them out of the can slice, heat up used a little tabsco sauce not too bad.

Holes were punched along the bottom from the side with a "can opener" and then holes punched upward on the open end for tines to hole the can that was being heated. You're in danger of being shot, being blown up by mortar fire, or blown up or impaled by a trap in an illegal war that we started based on lies and half truths so we can have more influence in South East Asia. That being said we've stopped packing cigarettes in your MREs, because they're bad for your health.
I find that I like to eat while watching these. I might get one of these rations for display purposes and to check out myself. My grandfather (who passed recently in March) had a draft card for the war but wasn't selected to go to 'Nam. I wish i could have discovered your videos sooner, as he would have loved watching.
You've inspired me to get on Ebay and buy some Vietnam era C-rats, because I have to try these cigarettes and find out how much better smokes used to be back then.

Same. I quit sometime ago, and all I can say about modern cigs is that it tastes like crap. I did smoke the pipe, which had a significantly better taste. But, I would kill to have a retro cigarette if it's as good as Steve says it is. Alas, you can't import cigs into Canada.
When I was a kid in High School, my father was stationed at Ft. Riley, KS. I used to find old ration cans like that in the woods. Even old M1 Garand clips in the creek beds. One day I found a Peanut butter can that looked just like the one depicted in this video. I ate it’s contents always believing I was a weirdo. Now at age 38, I know I’m not alone. Love your channel. You're in danger of being shot, being blown up by mortar fire, or blown up or impaled by a trap in an illegal war that we started based on lies and half truths so we can have more influence in South East Asia. That being said we've stopped packing cigarettes in your MREs, because they're bad for your health.
+Joshua Mainly to stop the spread of communism rather than just more influence.
I Got that Nope.avi Yeah, but what I said isn't exactly wrong either.
The way you say nice is awesome.
No hiss on the p’nut butter can? Hiss status report, soldier!
I love how he seems to stop for a second and consider eating the inky black mush that was once peaches. Only Steve lol.
I freaking love the relaxing voice... even the descriptions are relaxing
These videos are a freaking advertisement for the cigarette companies. I want to smoke so bad when I see those classic cig packages.
no they aren't lmao but same they look so good
A MAN'S cigarette!
Lord, I would kill for one of those Pall Malls.
dtouey yeah right...I want to try one of those good ‘ol smokes. I roll my own but this sounds like it tastes regal
Proper smokes!!
fuckin same, and ive quit smoking, lmao!
Would you kill some charlies?
73-75 we always got cigarettes. Chicken and noodles was one of my favorites. Big fan of Zappa too.
man i bet those cigarettes were amazing, nothing like the ones made today
TY for your service...USN 1973-77
I find that I like to eat while watching these. I might get one of these rations for display purposes and to check out myself. My grandfather (who passed recently in March) had a draft card for the war but wasn't selected to go to 'Nam. I wish i could have discovered your videos sooner, as he would have loved watching.
You've inspired me to get on Ebay and buy some Vietnam era C-rats, because I have to try these cigarettes and find out how much better smokes used to be back then.
80s Winstons smelled like raisins and tasted peppery.
Weren't that bad; got use to them actually. Traded my cigarettes for fruit cocktail most of the time. Vietnam Cu Chi 1966-67.
what was life like back then? i was born in 2002 and im 20 now. people talk about the 1960s and it's almost like it was a different world. how was life different then?
@@bilbo_gamers6417 I'd say it was a simpler time and you looked forward to more; whereas today everyone has already done everything at an early age with nothing, or little, to look forward to. Take care
AH man those peaches sure were looking funky. But those smokes sure looked good.
Dude these vids are awesome keep up the good work.
Oh also, always wondered, how long does it take you to open a can usually?
The round Mound! My favorite was the vanilla one though.
No surgeon general warning, definitely a classic! That was great
5:38 Frank Zappa looks jealous while lookin at you
the peaches look like the blood of saten
lmao
That's the stuff they used in Constantine when Satan pulls the cancer out of Keanu Reeves chest D:
+Space Bud95 love that movie...
and then he throws steve buscemi in the wood chipper
What is saten?
that peach juice reminded me of sploosh from holes
My dad who is a proud Vietnam vet will thank you for this one. Peaches and ham n eggs were his favorites.
I've enjoyed your videos after stumbling across them a year or so ago. Keep it up man!
man what i'd do to try one of these super old cigarettes! i dont smoke anymore either but dayum they must taste amazing...
Same. I quit sometime ago, and all I can say about modern cigs is that it tastes like crap. I did smoke the pipe, which had a significantly better taste. But, I would kill to have a retro cigarette if it's as good as Steve says it is. Alas, you can't import cigs into Canada.
+Samuel Anwar Try a cigar. The more expensive ones (but still somewhat reasonable) taste great.
+Samuel Anwar try rolling your own cigs with good tobaco, the taste is so much different
Not always true. As long as they stay airtight
Still have a pack of camel sealed from 1965 from my grandfather.
"Cant turn back the clock but can smoke a 50 year old cigarette"
Black coffee is the best.
I find this fascinating
To watch ya video I mean
When I was a kid in High School, my father was stationed at Ft. Riley, KS. I used to find old ration cans like that in the woods. Even old M1 Garand clips in the creek beds. One day I found a Peanut butter can that looked just like the one depicted in this video. I ate it’s contents always believing I was a weirdo. Now at age 38, I know I’m not alone. Love your channel. The chicken and Noodle MRE is my absolute favorite. Later in life I was a Paratrooper in the 82nd and it was a great day if I got the chicken noodle MRE.
That can opener can cross-contaminate if not washed between cans. Funny seeing you open every can without washing the outsides of the cans.
Cool Video You Got Really Lucky From A 50 Year Old C-Ration.
Scientist should use your efforts and experience to learn better methods to preserve foods for ever so your family tree can continue eating old mres
Steve has eaten a lot of very questionable things, but I can’t believe he even thought about eating those “peaches” lol
"peaches" 😂😂😂👍
"no surgeon general warning... Definitely a Classic! these are gonna be good..." haha my favorite line
I just finished Philip Caputo's "Rumor of War" (great book, btw), it includes some vivid descriptions of C-Rations in the field. Apparently the peaches were the most popular item.
Phil Caputo was a teacher of mine in gradeschool in the 80s.
