This looks like something I want. I started flying RC gliders and then flew full scale. It really helped my RC flying. RC pilots don't usually understand what the rudder is for except maybe on landing and takeoff. When you use the ailerons, there is more drag on the down aileron than the up aileron. This causes the plane to yaw in the opposite direction of the roll so you need to coordinate your turn by applying rudder. If you get just the right mix it will not yaw at all. Real gliders all have a piece of yarn on the canopy to show if your turns are coordinated.
You were stalling with ailerons because the adverse yaw raised the nose and slowed the wing on the inside of your turn.
With your camera setup, you could attach a piece of yarn to the front to figure out coordination. On RC planes I always mix rudder to the ailerons and find the sweet spot where it rolls on its axis. On gliders its usually close to 100%.
The sky is your canvas and you can paint it as you like but usually with gliders you go up as fast as you can and the flying is done without the motor. RC gliders usually try to stay up as long as possible. Full scale pilots usually try to go as far as they can with the record being about 2000km.
Once I got an RC glider I was hooked. I didn't fly anything else much at all. I love the challenge of using natural currents to soar.

It’s more about lift than about drag. Using no rudder when making a turn means that, because you swing it downwards, the wing that is going downwards will get an increase in lift and the other wing a decrease, causing the “hook effect” that you correct using the rudder. Kind regards from a licensed soaring pilot😛
I don't like to mix rudder with ailerons.
First use differential to motivate the reverse yaw, and then yes when you turn you have to usually pitch up and rudder to your direction and usually reverse ailerons to keep it on the good roll angle.
I've had this plane for a couple of years, best bang for buck you can get. I use a 1300 mAh battery mounted right up at the back of the canopy, also lifted the rear of the tailplane a few mm. Normally I get a good 20-30 minutes per battery while looking for thermals. It thermals pretty well for such a cheap glider.
I've had one of the first gen ASW28's now for about 2 years. For an entry level glider it's an excellent investment. It's durable, easy to fly, and the foam wings are easy to repair after a crash. I'd recommend this glider for a first timer.
Does it have a flaps?
I disagree with you. It was my first glider, and the only good point about it is it's durability. But the flying qualities are... Inexistant.
Yeap. I recommend this for a first big glider. It's not expensive and is very nice and stable to fly. I don't use FPV gear, so the tip I'm about to give may not be suitable if anyone buying this glider does. I found that a slower glide with less "sink" can be gained by putting a couple of credit card thicknesses under the back of the tailplane ( horizontal stabilizer). Just cut a couple of half inch squares out of your credit card, loosen the screws on top of the tail and place the squares between the back of the tail and tailplane. Nip 'em down again and you're good to go. I tried three and thought it was too much.
If you want to replace the aluminium wing spars, one of mine got slightly bent, with carbon fibre, you'll have to buy 7mm diameter tube as 8mm doesn't fit!!
Oh yes, you'll need to get another credit card.
I did the same and it makes a difference. Def agree with this mod and moving to CF from the provided aluminum is a smart choice from day 1.
Wow you managed to bend one of the Ali wing spars? Eveni didn't with 3 crashes.
And about the trick with the card is just how bad it is designed and built with a bad longitudinal V.
It's amazing how much we learn from birds and things...we feel so smart but we really have no idea how intricate life is.
Milk jug plastic is the best way to describe a volantex fuselage. I’ve wrecked my trainstar probably over 100 times and it just refuses to die. Even if you lawn dart it, you can just grab the motor and pop the firewall back out
Yeah man. These fuselages are full on beast mode tough.
I run a 4s 2200 battery with a 40 amp esc on my asw28. I removed the wheel and the foam insert so battery can move back for proper CG. It can be very fast, clocked it at 72 mph. This is not a slow plane, it likes to fly 30 to 40 mph and it will stall if flown too slow. It penetrates the wind very well. Also have a Phoenix 2400 which is way slower and better at gliding and thermals.

For RC soaring the geography where you live is amazing! Those huge fields of short grass, and more than that, you have access to it. Where I'm at the fields are full of tall grass, and the land owners are not the least bit interested in letting anyone not employed by them step foot on it.
My go-to glider flaps are a must and I did the 4s mod and 12 inch prop to mine great review keep them coming

It’s interesting hearing you explain how to fly this plane.
The same technique applies to hydrofoiling where it’s almost like you gotta use more “rudder” and twist. And use less heel and toe pressure that would be like an aileron.
I’ve been thinking of making a cheap glider with rc flaps and then use a rc plane to tow the glider up like most gliders do.

The model has been sold for years with the same two design flaws, but they are very easy to correct.
1. Glue 30 g of lead on the end of the fuselage and the vertical stabilizer, which is very easy in the hull without being seen from the outside.
2. The EWD is improper and needs to be raised to place the stabilizer on the back edge with 0.8 to 1 mm thick paper.
3. With a 3S 1500 mAh battery or with 2 3S 1500 mAh batteries connected in parallel, it is now possible to fly without changing the center of gravity. The second battery is simply pushed exactly between the wings, focusing on the upper board, which guarantees a minimum flight time of 25 minutes and almost always with a low thermal of at least 35 minutes - do not worry, the battery will not slip during the flight!
After the correction you will get a superbly flying model that can compete with much more expensive models as it is usually lighter.
The model is also suitable for easy aerobatics and although the surfaces sag unbelievably, I have not yet managed to destroy it in the air. I'm thinking about making the wings shiny, but this is definitely not necessary and colorful so I can see the model better.

The wings should of course not shine! So far I haven't put a layer of fiberglass on the wings. I do not need any unnecessary reinforcement / weight for my flight movements.
I recommend increasing the EWD slightly and not trimming the model front-heavy. This makes it a bit slower and more agile / critical, but more efficient. It will then have the slowest speed with the least sink. Flying even slower is definitely more damaging. If you want to fly faster, you can still do that.
Hay Justin I'm looking at getting this one, I wanted to ask you if you remember if the wings were plug in connector for the servos, I have a Radion pro and it's ready for the trash but I had to plug in the servos and wires were stuff in and a bolt holds the wing on. Thanks for the info and help

Thanks for the video. It's great to see people producing this sort of content. I've watched a number of videos on this model and I've come to some conclusions. At the price, it's not bad. Not good mind you but it flys. The things that bother me are: This model is consistently nose heavy. Slap a bigger battery in it and see where it balances. Even in this video with the FPV equipment hanging off the tail how much nose weight did you have to put in it? Fit and Finish is weak and materials are cheap. How long did it take for your model to basically destroy the canopy? Should anyone have to apply tape to a model to help hold parts on? Should a decent model be flown in a different way because the ailerons are so ineffective? Should a good model have to be modified at all to fly well? Lol. For those of you that fly this plane and like it, good on you, I'm glad you are satisfied. Myself, I'm afraid I can't agree with your assessment. The only redeeming part I can see is if you bash it one day, it won't set you back a ton of cash to replace it. 1.5 stars for me.
The canopy is so fragile that on every tough landing it breaks.
The ailerons have no authority at all and yes it's so damn nose heavy to he I had to remove the wheel to put my battery further aft. As already said on another comment 17% relative thickness clearly indicates how bad it is, lot of drag lot of speed needed. Go either to the phoenix or seek second hand gliders with better components like art hobby you won't regret it. But this one... Yeah it's a waste of money
Could you please tell me what radio/receiver I should get to finish this? I’ve never bought anything other than RTF so please tell me your preference in equipment to finish it off. I don’t mind spending on quality parts either...so, maybe give me a high end and a good bang4buck option. I am looking to add gps and extras for possibly...I trust your opinions and recommendations, and am awaiting your advice for finishing this off and getting it up for the maiden!

Throttle at 15% will be tractoring the glider - essentially you’re cutting your flight time by introducing more drag than energy to the glider. You could get an hour out of this plane and power system if you didn’t do that and flew more dynamically… managing the energy in the plane between using the throttle..

just a thought, instead of having the flaps go down, have them go up to act as spoilers.
Dont spoilers generally open top and bottom equally so it just increases drag equally, without affecting pitch? I've seen those used quite a bit. Often the have holes in them as well.
@@jeffreyryan7671, it depends on the plane. But just the top of the wing is all that's needed to disrupt the airflow. Reading what I wrote earlier again, I'm thinking the flaps going up is not the best spoiler but it will reduce lift. Extending flaps the normal way extends the length of the upper surface of the wing creating more lift. Having the flaps go up would effectively shorten the wing, reducing lift.
Mine kept stalling so I doubled the size of the tail. Now it glides better. kept the rudder the same size.
oh one other thing, I'm not sure if you got your prop to stop. If it windmills you need to program your esc to use a brake. a free spinning prop creates a lot of drag.

It’s funny my first RC airplane ever was an 8ft glider made of balsa and monocote. Years later this is five times lighter and less than half of the cost.
And easier to fix in a crash ;-)

what will make a motor beep? i put in a 40a esc the motor beeps nothing happens with the receiver douse not even power up
Esc needs to be calibrated. Prop off. Put throttle max. Turn on glider. Hear it deee deee deee. Put throttle stick full down... deee deee deee. Done.

No, an "IS28" is a totally different plane than this. This is "supposed" to be an ASW28, but it's more like an ASW27 (with added FES), because an ASW28 with flaps doesn't exist in real life.

@@keithdouglas8707 yes I fly the ASW28 regularly IRL, it’s one of my favorite gliders for cross country flights. Just look it up on Wiki and compare it to your “IS28”. The name alone should tell its not the same... ASW from Alexander Schleicher is German, while IS is older design from a different manufacturer in Romenia.

I flew a 99 inch Sagitta with motorized hi start, awesome plane so I doubt this is in the same performance class.
Flaps? Why not reverse the servos and make them spoilers? Would be far more useful for spot landings.
Or adjust travel so you can use them as both. Not hard to do. Think it is called mixing butterfly with flaperons
Questions.
1. Why are fixed wing cameras 📷 shitty in comparison to quad copters?
2. why are the cameras of quad copters unobscured but on a fixed wing we got the plane, wings, prop all sitting in the way of the view?
3. Why are all fixed wing cameras mounted on the top of the plane. So we basically only see the horizon and sky. It's a shitty place for a camera.
4. Many large drones have a gimbal to stabilize the camera. If a quad copter is big enough it has a gimbal. But no matter how big a plane they almost never put a gimbal even when it would be amazing at capturing the surroundings. (Granted there are difficulties, but it can be done)
I got one and the prop never stops spinning no brake good flyer not a thermal flyer but looks good in the sky.. Ifly with 3c 1500 it good for about 10 m...I see your prop don't stop ether

Lol that crappy thing was my first glider...
The only good thing about it is the durability of the fuselage. It survived 3 crashes without problem.
The rest of the plane is quite solid too.
Now let's talk about the flight...
Well it glide like a space shuttle maybe. You need lot of speed to keep it in the air
The ailerons are ridiculously tiny and have little authority. I've battled 15 minutes in 11m/sec turbulences just to make it landed succeeded. And the ailerons were so tiny that I had to forget the analog control and just go binary: left right left left up left right.
Won't regret it. (And yes I have now 10 gliders or wing gliders and good ones: umx radian and whipit, arthobby falco v, blaster 3, hacker model blanik, allulah, weasel, staufenbiel mantis 2.9m, VV short ascot 3m f3b and a home made 2.5m f3f carbon fiber glider )

@@dronecamps as I fly perfectly I know it's crappy, I remember seeing it falling 5 meters on a turn with no angle, the core is too small. I modéliser thé plane under xflr5 and the lift was ridiculous. That's the problem with those pseudo semi realist models they keep the cord length Wich is ridiculous (17cm while my current equivalent models got 23cm) and so to compensate they just do very thick profiles: 17% while my other gliders got 7 to 9%
With such profile you cannot be efficient. You can fly if there is speed or wind I cannot deny it. But with 41g/dm2 and a 17% thick profile which induce high drag...

@@williamwallace9427 well when you have a 17% thickness wing because it's needed to enable the glider to fly because the cord is only 17cm thus your relying on very low Reynolds number.
Since then I now have four 3m carbon f3b f3f class gliders that I bought as second or triple hand. They fly smoothly can handle lot of speed and more importantly when you turn without roll with 3m/s wind speed the glider don't fall like a brick.
You want to buy something better? go to the phoenix 2400, same brand but far more better wings.
