Wonderful, beautiful, informative podcast. A great way to spend a quiet Saturday evening, and lots of yarns, patterns, etc to study and be tempted to add to my long list. Eager to check out the Trelawny shawl, and the other Shawls from HP. I was just thinking it was time for me to reread or relisten to the series. I think it will be my fifth time 😀. I only watched the movies once. I’m a book 📚 person😍. Your winter walk pictures and music were a relaxing end 💛
What a delight you are, friend! It was just lovely to hear you mention Rhinebeck again; it gave me a reason to remember our hugs. I'm thinking I"ll watch this a second time, because I love the enthusiasm with which you describe your projects. The snowy scenes are awesome as well!
Perfect wintery day to watch your podcast. Thank you for sharing your projects and purchases in yet another beautiful podcast. I greatly admire your knitting and appreciate you sharing your fails. The quality of the video and sound are great. Thank you for reminding us to be gentle on ourselves during the holidays. Indeed, not an easy time for everyone. But the prospect of snuggling up with yarn and beautiful podcasts are something to look forward to. I had to chuckle when you mentioned stash down for 2020. That is one of my intentions as well. So many knitters have mentioned the 2020 stash down on IG that I am starting to worry about the talented people who makes all those beautiful yarns. But if most knitters are anything like myself, those "good" intentions fly out of the window as soon as a beautiful skein of yarn makes it appearance. Happy holidays to you and your loved ones.
Yay! So good to see you again, Nicole. Those colours of Ocean’s yarn that you got are SO gorgeous. It reminds me of the palette I used for my Vortex shawl. They’ll look so great together!
Isn't Ocean's yarn to die for? I am eagerly awaiting this weekend, when I'll FINALLY have time to catch up with your podcast and mail that $%^U#$% package, LOL
Thank you Nicole for another lovely, gentle episode. I too have fallen prey to knitting something that really isn’t “me” and you have given me the courage to frog it and make something else. I look forward to seeing your new projects, and more beautiful snowy scenes.
Dear Nicole, I was so happy to see you and Marcel, yarn, knitting projects, and all the beautiful snowy scenarios! Everything made me feel good! Thank you for the video :) Wish you and your family a very merry little Christmas and happy holidays!
I think the sound and image are perfect! I guess as for superwash, it's also the harm of the process on the environment that motivates the move from superwash to untreated. But you're right, socks are so tricky for that... Love love your soirée. Thank you so much for being so inspiring.
Yes, the environmental considerations are also important, thanks for mentioning it. In the case of socks, perhaps the fact that the commercial yarns last 4 times longer (in my case) offsets the fact that they involve plastic
@@thegentleknitter I think it's a super good point, duration is also a big thing. Similar to "better use the plastic container I already have than buy a brand new stainless steel one to be plastic-free". I think there's also transformation plantsand mills that are becoming more cautious of their water treatment than others in the process to make wool superwash, so hopefully eventually, we can have the advantages of superwash without the guilt!
Thank you Nicole for another lovely update. I really look forward to your videos and all the beautiful projects you have going. I love hearing your thoughts on wardrobe and colour and pattern and how we can enjoy something out there in the world, but maybe not for wearing (or doing or being) ourselves... I've just been learning that myself recently as well, as there's a big difference it turns out, and I think recognising the difference brings me closer to being authentically me! :)
What a shame that the Carlina didn’t work for you - the colours work so beautifully and your knitting is stunningly lovely. I feel the same about yokes, though - and even round neck sweaters, as I have a larger bust and a short neck 😬, so I’m quite careful about choosing potential sweater patterns as I don’t want to put all that effort in for something I cannot wear.
What a lovely Christmas treat to sit down and watch your lovely podcast. I'm so pleased to hear from you. We are having a very wet and muddy winter here in middle England. Perfect for staying inside and knitting (oh and drinking tea) I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Greetings from Gilly x
I always love your videos. The ending, wow! I have never experienced snow like that. How special. I appreciate you sharing your beautiful sweaters, even when you feel like frogging them. When you know, you know. Happy holidays to you as well.
Lovely to see you again Nicole. Your projects were stunning! Thank you for the review of the Swedish mitten book. I will put it on my list. Mittens are my favorite things to knit. Happy holidays to you!
Dear Nicole - I am delighted to see your Blacker Yarns plain green socks - they are twins with a pair I made some time ago. They are some of my favourite socks but sadly the yarn doesn’t last and I am constantly darning them. I hope yours last longer!
Wonderful podcast...as usual. Love listening to what you’ve been up to with knitting and with life in general. I watched today and it made for a lovely New Years Eve afternoon knitting session😊 The sound quality and picture are excellent. Happy New Year and all the best for 2020 🎉
Thank you Nicole for this lovely episode!I t is so nice to spend a moment "with" you. I love your projects and the yarns you present very much. I made a pair of socks in the Blacker yarn mohair blend in the exact same colorway Lamorna! I love to wear them very much they are the warmest socks I have and they get softer and softer when worn. But as other viewers already told it, they became very thin under the heel. I had to repaired them (yesterday to be exact to prevent a hole to appear). I should have made a reinforced heel but I didn't. I must say they didn't felt at all. I love the mittens book! Here in France we are happy to have now a very new publication, entirely in french made by a group of french independant designers and indie dyers. It the first time that a magazine with a such a high quality level is published. The name is "Woollez vous" N°1. I know that you sometimes mention french books, so I am happy to share. It has been out of stock very quickly, but now it is back in stock ( I will receive mine after Christmas). Have the best holiday time!
The video and sound quality was great! I always get so giddy when I see that you’ve released another video. Thank you for putting these out in the world!!
Hello! I just found your lovely videos about a month ago, so this is the first one I get to watch in real time! I, too, fell head over heels in love with Tidal Yarns. I probably spent thirty minutes in their booth at the New Hampshire sheep and wool festival just admiring all the naturally-dyed shades. I actually bought the exact same color as you! I got enough yarn and mini skeins to make the Birkin sweater by Caitlin Hunter, so I'm looking forward to casting on for that in 2020! I hope you have a warm and woolly winter holiday!
Lovely to see you again Nicole ... I just loved watching this episode! That mitten book is on my wish list - we will see if it appears under the tree! As always, your videos are such a balm to the soul. I loved the footage of the woods (I literally felt my shoulders drop and I let out a happy sigh!) ... and I of course love to see sweet Marcel. I hope your holidays are a quiet, lovely, woolly time. Much love to you!
Thank you, Nicole, for taking the time to podcast. I really love those insect mittens! I hope you and your family have a happy and peaceful holiday together. Thanks for sharing all your makes and hope to see you in the new year.
I actually think the colorwork sweater looked absolutely beautiful on you, the colors suit you so well, but I understand your reasoning for frogging it. It's Sunday, I'm sipping coffee in bed looking over the snowy treetops from my bedroom window and thoroughly enjoying this wonderful vlog. Bless you, happiest holidays! ❤️
Loved watching - your way of presenting is packed with information, yet simply put - I also love simple, classic sweaters, although the only one I've finished for myself is Like a Cloud by Joji (but I wear it frequently). Have a relaxing holiday - hope you continue to get plenty of snow for skiing!
Thank you for such a nice podcast. I am so glad you talked about what you called your ‘fails’. I don’t think they are fails at all. When you realize it is not you that is very much a acknowledgment of a great process. I really felt it is where I am also. Something is very Beautiful but it would not be me in a big project but maybe in a smaller one. I hpe you have a Merry Christmas.
Nicole, I so loved meeting you at Rhinebeck (near the apple cider donuts stand lol) . Lovely episode, as always. I am also not a big co,or work wearer (though I enjoy knitting it). Happy Holidays to you 🤗
Love your subtle sublime colour and yarn choices - and that handspun! If it were mine, I'd use it as the CC in a graphic but understated yoke on a neutral beige MC background - you showed us two skeins of the perfect colour, forgotten what it was but think it was from Rhinebeck. You'd still get the cool, Spincycle-ish look but in a Nicole-friendly scheme - another idea would be a two-colour The Shift cowl, you could even restrict the slip-stitched pattern to the bottom of the cowl and have it mostly neutral.
When you commented that that lovely yoke was going to the frog pond, I grasped my heart and belly laughed = I know that heartache so well! Thank goodness you enjoy knitting - you'll get to experience that thrill another day!
It was lovely to see you again!! I have to say I was agog that you would rip out the stunning yoked sweater until you talked about the fit. You seem to have been in the frog pond quite a bit so here’s to a year of simple cardigans in 2020! That was what I wanted for 2019 but I think I only got two so I’ll be there too for 2020. Take care my dear!
The snow pictures are just beautiful at the end. Thank you, Nicole! I am at home poorly and feeling a little more soothed, for being taken out of myself.
I really enjoy your podcasts Nicole and when you showed the colour work sweater, i really thought it was amazingly beautiful and looked gorgeous held against you. I wished i could adopt that sweater. But i do understand that if you don't feel right nobody can change that.
Love the quality and sound of this video! A tips is to place a sticker over the camera, so that you have a focus point right by it 😊 So lovely to see you again! You are my absolute favorite esthetic and podcaster!! Merry Christmas, Nicole 💙
Aw thank you so much Emelie for your sweet message. And great suggestion about putting a sticker to draw my eye to the camera. I will definitely try that next time!
what great projects you have done and are planning! really liked the color work yoke but if you aren't going to wear it , isn't it nice to finally get your style. it took me a long while to figure out just because i love it doesn't mean it will work for me. and what a nice treat to see your special guest!
Dear Nicole, you inspire me to up my knitting game💛 May I ask where you get your linen dresses and perhaps any nature themed necklaces such as the one you have on? Thank you in advance🌸
Some of my dresses I've made (my favourite sewing pattern for that is the Metamorphic dress by Sew Liberated). Several pieces come from the "Cut Loose" brand, and I have 2 pieces from "Not Perfect Linen" on Etsy which I love! The necklace I'm wearing is from Hedgling on Etsy. Hope this helps :)
Lovely episode! I'm currently knitting from Majas bok (another swede here!), I'm knitting the ones with the two people holding hands. It's actually two girls, it's kind of a feminist mitten all about celebrating sisterhood. Knitting them for my friend for Christmas. Hope you'll have a wonderful Christmas! :)
Hi Nicole. Thank you for another lovely podcast and for sharing all your pretty knits. I’ve had the soirée in my queue for a while - can’t decide which size to knit 🤷🏻♀️. 10” of ease sounds a bit much for me. Would you mind sharing how much ease you chose for yours? It’s perfect! Thank you and Merry Christmas ❤️🎄
I understand your reasons for frogging your yoked sweater, but it also breaks my heart a tiny bit because the colors and pattern are so beautiful together! It would make a beautiful pillow too. Good for you though for knowing yourself and making clothes that speak to your sensibilities.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one still discovering what "is" and "is not" me. I agree - that sweater (color work yoke) is stunning and I love it, but can't see myself wearing it. I wish I could....
If you want to start moving towards a more woolen spun yarn, take some fiber you don't mind playing with and just spend an afternoon spinning short backward draw. In time you'll get used to the motion and you might naturally come to a sported long draw. It's now one of my favorite ways to spin.
Schoppel Wolle (from the Crazy Zauberball) has recentely released a sock yarn with biodegradable nylon/polyamide. I am knitting with it right now for the first time... Schoppel Admiral Henf (it also has a little bit of hemp). I am very much hoping this will offer me durable socks that are on par with the Opal and Zauberball socks I have. I thought you might be interested in this yarn as well, because of what you said about socks in this episode.
Thank you for this lovely podcast! Maybeyouwill do it more often if it is easier to do with your new IPhone. I hope so. Check out Carol Feller's patterns. She has some nice cardi's with a little detail and pockets. I am knitting her Tabouli and I love it. Interesting construction!
So nice to see an episode from you again! I think the quality, both sound and imagewise are great with the telephone. Just a heads up when it comes to sock yarn. I think you should try a non-superwash yarn from Hillesvaag called Fjord. It is a nylon blend, but is otherwise a sturdy, woolly yarn and makes the warmest socks ever. You can find it at www.ull.no
I made a pair of socks in the mohair blend from Blacker, I am sad to say that for me the did not hold up more than a week! so be prepared to get the darning needle out. I did love the yarn, but it is not durable enough for my socks. I think it has to do with it being woolen-spun. I am contemplating spinning a combed top with BFL and mohair for socks, and have heard good things about combed wensleydale for handspun socks as well.
Oh dear, a week is not a good track record! Maybe I'll wear them as bed socks, lol. I'll look out for combed Wensleydale. I don't think I've ever knit with that breed.
Nicole, you'd like the Sjön cardigan I'm knitting in the Kammerbornia KAL right now! I'm doing it in claret red with the palest grey patterning on the yoke.
Love the jumper that you’re wearing, stunning! It’s is such a shame that you don’t like that beautiful colourful yoke. I think it’s gorgeous, but like you, I wouldn’t wear it either. It’s too fussy for me.id love to make something like that for someone else though.
wanted to quickly pause to comment that the sound and image quality is great, so if this is easier for you then the iphone is a great option! so nice to catch up with you, i've saved this video for the right sunday afternoon :)
So good to see your face again 😊 I think your yoke looks stunning. Also on you. I guess it’s something you’re not used wearing (the color) so it doesn’t feel good. I totally get you won’t wear it and because it doesn’t fit well either. You’ve given me another one for my Ravelry queue though! 😆
I think the sound and image of this recording was great! keep it simple! I made socks out of the Blacker mohair and I LOVED them but holes appeared almost immediately... Corinne added the yarn is not for socks in the description now... I have had good luck with FjordFibres yarn on Etsy...for socks... your projects look wonderful! Have great holidays!
Dear Nicole, what a beautiful podcast (again). Ik think this setting is super, so no energy to the camera and leave it with your phone. Thank you for your wise advise to look in your wardrobe and be honest to yourself and knit what you would wear instead of knitting things you might appeal to but probably would not wear. My frogpond (haha) will get an extra project today. Happy days and thank you for being here on TH-cam!
Hello, I just discover your episodes on TH-cam by the recommandations of Tricolibri. My English is not so fluently and I cannot understand from who is the pattern of this splendid pullover with all of those sorts of torsades. Could you write me the name please?
Awe, that "failure" sweater is absolutely gorgeous and I think it suits you perfectly. Look at the colours of it! It is YOU. Your tones of skin, hair and your eyes - it all matches! And the pattern reminds me of native american patterns - somehow you always remind me of one of those ancient indian women - do you know the book Women who dance with wolves, by Clarissa Pincola Estes?! One of the fairy tales/ ancient stories analized is the one of the old indian woman who dances the Butterfly Dance, brushing her almost floor length white hair against the ground while moving to the drums and singing. This is what the sweater and you remind me of. It would be a pitty if you ripped it out. Huggs, Christina
This is my first time to see your podcast. It was a pleasure. About that sweater..... so much beauty. If you really cannot imagine wearing it, with only the sleeves remaining, is there not a friend who would love wearing it?
The quality of recording on your new phone is very good. I agree that the bright colourwork sweater doesn’t seem to match your aesthetic. I hope that you have a lovely, peaceful Christmas and a New Year characterised by joy and contentment. Jinny

Happy Hollidays Nicole ! Love your 'plain' plans with the really gorgeous yarns. Beautiful light when there is snow, enjoy your outside plays.
Happy holidays to you too. I hope you also get lots of "outside play" time! xo

Oh my goodness..... I will buy that sweater from you in a heart beat and finish it! I LOVE IT SO MUCH
That pattern and colors look elegant on you!!!!!!!!!
Merry Christmas and a Happy new year ❤️ What a lovely book you showed, it has just landed on my wishinglist for my birthday 2020

This is my first viewing of your podcast and I believe we are kindred spirits! I have definitely subscribed!
I always enjoy your podcast so much but the last scene of the snowy winter wonderland just literally took my breath away. :)
Always so restorative to sit with you and hear about your knitting and yarn and life. Thank you. Do you post info on your projects on Ravelry?
Thanks for the beautiful snow footage! ❤️
A chat and a knit and a walk in the woods. That’s the most pleasant sounding get together I’ve ever heard. I hope it was as nice as it sounds!

What a lovely podcast! I really liked it a lot.
The Long shadows by ANKESTRiCK would look wonderful in the tweedy yarns you bought, i think. Very nice suff that you got at Rhinebeck!
It’s been SO lovely to catch up with you. I always love to see what you’re knitting on.
Thank you! xoxo
Lovely as always! Have a warm and wonderful Holiday Season!

It's actually two girls, it's kind of a feminist mitten all about celebrating sisterhood. Knitting them for my friend for Christmas. Hope you'll have a wonderful Christmas! :)
Don't frog it...it is amazing on you! Really. So beautiful...it makes you shine.
Wow love your sweater and your shawl! Love your video too...
I'm so glad I'm not the only one still discovering what "is" and "is not" me. I agree - that sweater (color work yoke) is stunning and I love it, but can't see myself wearing it. I wish I could....
Thanks for coming back! Merry days to you too ✨💖💫🧶
Hi Nicole, Lovely lovely podcast. Thank you!
Your hand spun is beautiful!
Hi Nicole, always love your podcast. I find the camera quality and sound quality is good with your phone.
Oh your greyhound is beautiful oh my goodness you’re so lucky
You can find it at www.ull.no
Maja is pronounced like Maya :-) I love the sweater you are wearing - you look wonderful.
Whatever happened to the beautiful intro music by Mariee Sioux? I really miss it.
the carlina i think looks good with your hairdo and eye color . it looks good .
47:30 omg that is GORGEOUS! Please share with us whatever you decide to make with it!!!
Lol I'm happy that it served as inspiration for someone else. It truly is a beautiful design!
This is perfect! Use your IPhone all the time! What size needle did you use on your Soirée sweater? Lovely!
I always enjoy your podcasts, Nicole.. like you, I prefer classic garments. No frou-frou for me. Happy New Year.
Good to know about FjordFibres. Thanks!
It can feel surprisingly good to frog something and "save" the yarn. Thank you for your sweet message.
Hello, I just discover your episodes on TH-cam by the recommandations of Tricolibri. My English is not so fluently and I cannot understand from who is the pattern of this splendid pullover with all of those sorts of torsades. Could you write me the name please?
what is the name of the color work sweater ? please :)
Sound and image seems great!
Oh, we have a black greyhound as well!
What is the name of the colorwork sweater please ?
Marcel is the most beautiful boy x
Awww, I think so too xoxo
The quality of recording on your new phone is very good.
I agree that the bright colourwork sweater doesn’t seem to match your aesthetic.
I hope that you have a lovely, peaceful Christmas and a New Year characterised by joy and contentment. Jinny
I L💖VE YOUR PODCAST!!!!
it might not be "you", but it's gorgeous! :)
Im so worried youre going to frog that incredible colorwork. I know you like neutrals but it does look stunning on you!
