I put scorpions and full trex parts on my 03 got rid of the chunky muffler added trex skid plate and I send the bike off jumps to include small pit bike jumps at extremes this bike can handle it and has the right posture of a mortard cheers

That’s awesome mods. I do feel this platform is pretty capable with some upgrades it can really become anything you want it to be. I’m considering dumping like a grand into it and getting a full exhaust and tune as wel as tst velocity stacks for better hp and top end. But for now it’s super fun around town and Iv been doing deliveries on it lol.
A skid plate would be a nice upgrade too though now that you mention it.

to go offroading? xD its a pretty good beginner bike because its forgiving and pretty lightweight. Not the fastest above 60mph (100kph) but it gets the job done and is a hoot to ride :)

As someone who has owned a beginner naked bike, a dual sport, and an ADV bike I would say you friend should probably start on a dual sport. The crf300L is a great beginner bike and they even make a lowered option for shorter riders this year. Yamaha makes the xt250 but it can’t go quite as fast if you need to do any highway speeds and it’s the same price as the mt-03

From TH-cam to Browser, none of them answered my question if MT-03 can modify to Offroad Capable or not. Luckily i've found the answer from this video

thats awesome :) I had a lot of run riding these trails. Tires would make a huge difference. its pretty cool having a street bike that also can get down and dirty on some light trails too! thanks for the feedback !

    • @amerikanviking

It can. You'll definitely want some good dualsport tires. Now, it won't be going down major trails, but it will handle some gravel and dirt. I wouldn't be riding like a highway with these tires. But, I have found these to work.
Front: Continental TKC70 Dual Sport Front Motorcycle Tire 120/70R-17 (58W)
Rear: SHINKO TIRE 705 DUAL SPORT REAR 150/70R17 69H RADIAL TL
The reason I bought these personally is because I live in the Texas Panhandle. We have a lot of sandy roads and gravel roads. These are what are recommended by lots of people in the area. I use them, and they work great on the unpaved roads we have. I wouldn't be going extremely fast, but the work to get me across them, and they do work well on the highway.

@@OneSmallFavourbuy V-Strom or Versys, bud. You don't need a higher cc if you're an under 400cc rider.
Or if you do, i'd recommend KLR-650, one of the Cheap & Reliable ADV Bike you can buy on Above 400cc Class.
It ain't much of a power, but it'll give you a destination economically, with it's 9.5:1 Compression Ratio

@@OneSmallFavour I bought it cheap. It needed work. But I brought it back to OEM specs. It was fitted with the streetiest of street tires. It has a really low center of gravity. I think that was it. Easy to power slide and the front was incredibly stable.

ahh thats very cool. I really like some of the bikes BMW produces they really seem to put a lot of care into the riding geometry and handling. Its intersting to hear that other people have also experimented offroading on street tires lol. Makes me wonder really how much an imporvemnt moving to dual sport tires would be on some of these gravel roads. I can surely see it helping on some more unmaintained roads :)

It's the 90% rule. If you ride 90% on the streets get a street bike and vice versa. Adventure bike is a compromise not the best on either road or off. But don't listen to me I like Harleys 😅
