- There's a little bit of a story behind this song, so please bear with me.
A few months ago I heard a terrific song by the inimitable DrDycer, about probably the most famous and well-written alicorn OC to ever grace the My Little Pony fandom, Nyx from Pen Stroke's "Past Sins". To me, though, DrDycer's song sounded like the unplugged acoustic version of some epic metal tune, and I felt compelled to create my own version.
Originally I had another singer lined up to do the vocals for this, but due to various circumstances she's been unable to record it. So after having this recording sit around on my computer for a few months I decided to have a go at singing it myself ... well turns out it's just slightly out of my comfortable vocal range so I'm not 100% happy with it, but perhaps some of you will enjoy this song anyway.
Trivia: I think this was actually the first song I recorded on my 7-string, before I'd gotten proper strings for it. (I had a bass string standing in for the low A. The ball stuck out the back of the guitar and looked ridiculous.)

Nothing like digging for things and finding gems like this in the MLP fandom. Too much focuses on the new or latest. I listened through Past Sins literally this week. I continue to be amazed by this fandom that I joined late into. I hope others stumble upon this weeks, months or even years from now to enjoy.

past sins is what brought me into the fandom so i got to say I LOVE THIS :D
I have returned to proclaim that this is a wonderful song. The guitar very strong, but not over overdriven. The strings have been mixed perfectly, with notable presence but not overwhelming. The screaming adds strong emotion and character to the song, instead of sounding like a dying animal. You did a fantastic job adapting your own vocal range to that of the song, you sing with purpose and power. And a nice solo to top it all off!

Years later, I still remember this amazing ass song. Thank you for going through with it, even if it wasn't what you originally wanted. Wouldn't change a thing.

You obviously haven't read 'Background Pony' by Short Skirts and Explosions, or 'My Little Dashie' by, um..., I don't know. I'll have to look into that. Anywho, more tears will start falling from your face. And I will laugh (no I won't).

I'm reading this fanfic right now, and it's brilliant. As for the music, it is as expected from The L-train: Masterful. Really conveys the dark struggles within Nyx.

I've put a link in the description for tabs. Note that the guitar solo isn't tabbed out - this tab was done before I recorded the song, and I don't normally work out my solos until I record them. Also everything is on a 7-string guitar in Drop A, so you'll either need a 7-string or a 6 with very heavy strings (though you won't be able to play the solo or some of the leads with a 6).

I know that feel very well. :D Sometimes when I record hours and try to mix after that my ears get so muddy that I can't say if the volume is loud 'cause everything sounds the same. Btw, what do you use for orchestrations? They sound great.

Can i ask what's your favourite metal band?
Cool. I love your vocals, I'm just curious about hers. Anyway, there is next to no metal with female vocals in the fandom. Combining the smaller amount of female singers and metal in the fandom with the generally smaller correlation with female fronted metal leaves like one or two brony metal songs with female vocals.
The voice to music volume ratio is a little off. It feels like you've pushed yourself more in the background than you should have. Then again, you already mentioned that you aren't 100% satisfied with your vocals in this song, so I think this is excusable.
But apart from that, great cover! And great to see you releasing content more frequently again (at least that's what I'm hoping for, hehe).

you'd be surprised what you can pull out of xpand 2 from pro tools, when you just mix and fiddle a little. for a program that comes free with the DAW, you certainly cant complain...even if symphonic orchestra is waving is suggestive sexy ass at you the whole time :P
