Your interpretation for me is way off, this album was for her son Angelo after her divorce. This particular song is about her relationship with Simon, her divorce, trying to help her son understand the why of it, and the way of the world, and also the first verse is really about how her and her friend James Cordon, and how the world was making them both feel, which was very similar to one another.
