    Underproduced, gritty, a little grimy...and utterly amazing. It comes out so organic, so intimate as a result. This is music stripped of pretense and reduced to pure substance. Greg is wholly underappreciated.

    Lyrics:
    You were a phonograph, I was a kid
    I sat with an ear close, just listening
    I was there when the rain tapped her way down your face
    You were a miracle, I was just holding your space
    Well time has a way of throwing it all in your face
    The past, she is haunted, the future is laced;
    Heartbreak, you know, drives a big black car
    Swear I was in the back seat, just minding my own
    And through the glass, the corn crows come like rain
    They won't stay, they won't stay
    For too long now
    This could be all that we know
    Of love and all
    Well you were a dancer and I was a rag
    The song in my head, well, was all that I had
    Hope was a letter I never could send
    Love was a country we couldn't defend
    And through the carnival we watch them go round and round
    All we knew of home was just a sunset and some clowns
    Well you were a magazine, I was a plain Jane
    Just walking the sidewalks all covered in rain
    Love to just get into some of your stories
    Me and all of my plain Jane glory
    Just me and all of my plain Jane glory

    • @madeleine7419
      @madeleine7419 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m more fond of the soft, nostalgic feel of the original version, rather than the intense _forward motion_ of this version, where the changed instrumentation and uptick in tempo have really changed what the song *feels like.* I wouldn’t *dislike it* though, by any means, this just isn’t my go to. Not my cuppa.

    Isakov is magnetic. Highly under-rated, he is one of the few folk artists remaining in the key light. Although nostalgia, poetry, and talent are of little value in modern society, his style is rememberable.

      I had the exact same thing happen🤯- but she sent me 2nd chances, She always takes it Black and Honey it’s alright… I sent this, Amsterdam and St Luis. Ahhh when you bond over music like this most have rarely even shared with others it’s really special, all Dualtone musicians from Shakes to ‘Eers: I did make the mistake of trying to share his Label mate, Langhorne Slim, with a few people I really felt were special and that’s a HUGE risk for me, the man’s a real close friend, a healer.. family, the energy he brings is unmatched. I was blessed to see him open for Prine which was his dream come true(last US show John did❤️‍🩹) Slim was soooo happy to see me afterwards🙃 but I can’t do that- I tried with someone again, planned it out for over a month got on VIP list etc- I don’t go out a lot as is but, I really felt this person not only wanted to come but needed it. Unfortunately, I won’t do that again, they cancelled 3xs in 13 hrs and I wasn’t “allowed” to feel hurt or disappointed 😔 got called names for saying I was disappointed. Then the show was strange I had people devouring my energy and Sean wasn’t giving it back like usual, so I was depleted for over a week as well as got sick. And that meant I wasn’t who I said🤦🏼 all my brutal honesty, putting things out there I normally wouldn’t from go, went from being appreciated and trusted to nope I was something completely different because they couldn’t be honest with ME? Worst, she was 38, but no talking just assumptions.
      But the one who disappeared, destroyed me. She’s part me-
      If you know Greg you know why she’d send 2nd chances. I wear my heart and childhood wonder on my sleeve, so:
      “Thought that part was yers but it might just be mine I could share with you if you gave me the time” I’m that guy who sees what most just don’t take the time to look for, knowing it’ll usually get me hurt.. cuz you can’t make someone see themselves as you do😔 no matter how much you show, reassure, support.. it’s heartbreaking. You try and you try but you can’t call it home..
      I don’t understand but I’ll always care, and miss Antionette. She had pieces of me, I gave her.. there’s her shaped wholes in my heart and soul from where I extended all my grace to her-
      “You’ll love her till it all goes dark you’ll love her even after that”
      That… is a painful truth. Unfortunately she probably understands but, I just gotta keep doing me.. headed to Red rocks to see him in Sept. I won’t chase a female but I’ll chase music ❤️‍🩹 it’s never left me, or abandoned me when I needed it most its always there. Unfortunately I just think what I want isn’t out there and I’ve never settled(my definition of settling is different it has 0 to do with looks, pretty faces are everywhere, hearts not so much).
      Sure I can use my looks and I’ve resigned to the fact if I don’t now I’ll regret it cuz my way.. just ends in pain. Honesty and complete openness, respect and reciprocity, those aren’t looked for anymore.
      Good luck I hope whatever you want to happen does🙏💫🫂
