Story time. Gregory’s music got through true heart break. The woman who I loved no longer loved me. I would sit in my studio apartment looking out the windows and listen to the weather man and this empty northern hemisphere. I would listen to him on my long training rides on the bike. It always felt like it was healing me- slowly yet surely. Eventually my wounds healed, I found peace, I moved away, and 3 years after heartbreak I met a girl. 10 months after we met we got engaged, and 5 months after we got married. I am almost for two years now, and stumbled across this video tonight. I got teary eyed. My wife and I got our engagement photos done at the park this was filmed at. It has all gonna full circle now. The artist who’s music found me and brought peace and healing, playing second chances, in the area where I was celebrating a new and sacred love. What a moment. Thank you Gregory!
Thats great...you deserve it man...this healing journey of heartbreak and loss is my path too...it moulds you...never let go of her man..she needs you too brother....much love to you both...thanks Gregory
Some play for fame. Some for glory. Many play for money. But only a few play because they have to. Gregory you are one of those few. Much love to you brother.
Greg is one of the most underrated artists making music today. Selfishly, I hope it stays that way, but he deserves all the success that will come his way. The world probably moves way too fast these days for most people to take the time to listen to his brilliant lyrics and traditional type of Americana music. Nothing better than opening a cold beverage and chilling out to GAI after a long day.
It's like a beautiful place out of no where, when you found it, you enjoying it, and you start to wonder why there is nobody here, and you feel like you should tell the world there is a beautiful place here. But after there is really a lot of people, it won't be the same anymore.
How did there people get so lucky to just get to sit there next to a fire, with beer, and listen to this beautiful beautiful music straight from the musician himself. I'd die happy. How Is it even fair to have so much talent in one human?
@@pimpelpaarsepuisten1 yeah, man we're all capable of making our dreams reality:) a positive attitude, and believing in yourself, and the universe is all it requires.
I listen to him every morning, as I prep for another day in the dementia unit I work in. It keeps my heart in an open poetic sense. If life never allows us to cross paths, we always have the music.

Gregory Alan Isakov hands down one of the best songwriters/ musicians I’ve heard and I’ve been playing for 30+ years. He’s an a American treasure ! Bravo
@@stilldo4052 He's as genuine as they get; I caught fire, and burned a hell of a lot of my body. I would listen to this music when they would help me shower in the hospital; the music masked the excruciating pain. I would always have some sort of music playing, usually GAI. One of the nurses indicated to Greg's manager my existence, and I received on my 16th birthday; a card welcoming me to his concert in phoenix. When I was later out of the hospital; free from physical therapy and constant bandaging, I got to see his concert. I was allowed in the back, to meet him and though I had never seen his face, I did want to see it in person. I never expected I'd meet someone so genuine, he did genuinely care about my story. After momentarily meeting him he went up on stage and I was rushing around trying to find myself; got lost, then watched the show from the back. Every song brought back a memory but it felt as though those memories faded vaguely into distance, instead of being like it was moments ago; the pain felt distant. I cried a lot. But I'll be damned if that man get's away with not publicizing an act of goodwill to a 15-16 year old burn survivor, at least one new person can know that this fella would rather just complete an act of good will, instead of publicizing it for his own merit. Edit; Music combined with Fentanyl.
I'm actually really happy that he is shy about performing (Lol that sounds bad). I've been working on my own folk type music for a while now and it's getting to the point where I think it's my only reason for me to be here. To create sounds for other people to enjoy/connect to. But I'm still way too shy to sing in front of anyone let alone perform in front of anyone. But once I get this project done I'm working on I'm not going to let anything stop me. Hearing him say what he said really helps.
Isakov - his music helped me through a near tragic auto accident my son had back in July. I first heard his music on my farm back about seven months ago. I started doing some research. "Aha, that's it," I thought. The man is a horticulturist. What's not to love about Isakov ? Humble, songs that are radiant in nature. Goodness. I saw and heard Isakov back in June in NC. Tomorrow night I get me second d chance at the Fonda Therater in Hollywood. Just wow.
It makes no sense that 100 people have disliked such a wholesome, unique beautiful artist who creates and produces such warm music to ignite and warm our souls.
How absolutely beautiful, and completely true. Second Chances are the only reason we are not alone. Either we give them, or we have been given it. I just stumbled on to your music and I love it. Thank you.
Lyrics and melodies just stunning. I am hooked. Now add a full orchestral backing and you will be blown away. I feel he has so much to offer anyone into this genre of music especially in a world where singer songwriters are scarce.
Nice to see my favourite artist in this way. Usually he is just on stage or sat opposite an interviewer. Just have to say the cinematography is stunning, really great work. Wish this had been an hour long!
Thanks for still doing it Gregory. You inspire me every day. I just need to liberate myself and take the first step to making art... I feel full of life inside, waiting to see the world, and not taking all that out kills me slowly. You are the only artist that I feel is just a normal human, humble, spiritual and kind. You just did what your soul told you, and kept doing it even if it scared you like you said. I need that courage, doing my thing even if it scares me that I may have success. Im just scared of starting and keep doing it. I am in that fight but thanks to you I think I'll win my inner conflict.
Easily one of my favorite musicians, extraordinarily talented and such a wonderful sound. When I want something textured and otherworldly, I go to Sigur ros. When I want something textured and earthly, I go to GAI
In the usual way of wandering the backwaters of youtubeland, I chanced upon a Dave Rawlins cover by Ira Wolf and thus I discovered Westy Sessions. I have found the promised land. What a fantastic concept... Westy van life, spectacular outdoor locales, rich and creative videography, studio quality audio, with a collection sans pereil of Minstrel-Poet-Musicians You Never Heard Of. This is my finest music discovery since stumbling onto NPR Tiny Desk Concerts eight years ago. I will share with my many music friends.... thanks so much for sharing.
I'm such a fan of Gregory Alan Isakov- but in particular, Second Chances sticks out to me. The song reminds me so strongly of my grandfather, who had passed away this past year. "All of my heroes sit up straight."
i saw this guy in the uk, at plymouth pavillions he was a support artist for passenger :). alan gregory iaskov is an amazing guy with music and voice that touches your soul !!!, performed for less than an hour but it was worth it!.
Wow how fortunate are these friends to be able to sit with GAI in a private concert! What a cool life...I love everything about his music, the lyrics, the melodies, just the overall vibe. I am heading to Roanoke (from Philly) to see him and Luke Sital Sing on Nov 14th and I cannot wait! Amazing!
He's become one of my favorite musicians to listen to and it happened when I stumbled upon a random playlist and Amsterdam came on. Whenever I need a calming voice to hear I listen to Greg and other music of this particular genre.
I hope when I get to the (proverbial) pearly gates they hand me a lawn chair - and I get to pull up to this particular (and exact) moment in time - that would be a perfect audio way to step into the shade of the light. Greg - - - - *bravo*. You are humbling. A poet's poet. C h e e r s
This is so goddamn beautiful. GAI's music, his lyrics, the visuals of the video, everything. This pandemic has made me realise how much I love (and now miss) live shows. My wife and I have wanted to see Isakov for so long. When this is all over, we're going to make that happen, even if it's from hours from home. Maybe if we're lucky, we'll find a Westphalia of our own to make that journey. Thanks for posting this.
I've always liked his music. I really love this too because it's filmed in the area where I grew up. I played in the creek at Montana de Oro as a kid. That combined with the VW vans makes it extra nostalgic.
What a humble & extremely talented guy. I've been listening to his music for years and was finally able to catch him live when he played in Santa Barbara with guest musicians. Sera Cahoone + Company(I forgot her name but she was very talented & played a violin & sang back up vocals) opened up the show with a stunning performance! All the musicians had so much talent and Amazing stage presence! That had to be by far the most incredible concert I think I've ever been to(and I've seen Many artists). I found the warmth of the songs and heart that was poured into making them truly captivating. I hope they all decide to come back to the area again. I will certainly be there!
Nice breath of fresh real music..... time does change all. we fallow the pain to share the gain,as we fallow again . step by step we feel it's fibrence .... Life!

When this epidemic passes, I'm going to buy a ticket & hear him live
You'll be glad you did
You’re in for a treat. I’ve seen him live 7 times and it only gets better. No matter how big the venue it always feels like he’s just playing for me.

All of my heroes sit up straight
They stare at the ground
They radiate
Me, I'm mumbling in the kitchen for the sun to pay up
Lonely is a ring on a cold coffee cup
I'm some sick hound
Digging for bones
If it weren't for second chances, we'd all be alone
My hands they were strangers lost in the night
They're waving around in the dusty light
I'm waiting in the wings while the trees undress
Cupping my ear to hear the wind confess
I'm a ghost in the garden
Scaring the crows
If it weren't for second chances, we'd all be alone
I'm running from nothing, no thoughts in my mind
Oh my heart was all black
But I saw something shine
Thought that part was yours, but it might just be mine
I could share it with you, if you gave me the time
I'm all bloody knuckles, longing for home
If it weren't for second chances, we'd all be alone
I'm a shot through the dark
I'm a black sinkhole
If it weren't for second chances, we'd all be alone
Thanks for the words
I love the part, "cupping my ears to hear the wind confess" as the wind flows by, so cool.
wow, I read that just in the moment he sang it.
what a score "hey, look who's in the camp site next to us".
if it werent for second chances we'd all be alone - this phrase is worth a thousand words. Cant even describe how much emotion that sentence captures.
