Man thank you for this video. 6 years later and it works for my accord. I had replaced the distributor, ignition coil, spark plugs... Since I'm not a mechanic I just went to replace the pieces rather than testing them... I guess this is the last spot to go to make it star.
My honda still isn't working. before I put in the new fuel pump I made sure the old pump was bad (which it was) and the new pump worked plugged in (which it did). I put everything back together carefully, connected everything. I'm hearing the fuel pump priming when I turn the key. The engine turns over just fine, just like before, but it doesn't catch... any advice?
Thank you so much for this video, it gave me the courage to take my Haynes manual and go do it on my 92 Accord Ex that'd been sitting for over a year. Now she starts and runs, but idles real rough with dark smoke coming out of the tail pipe and she'll stall out after a few minutes.
You're braver than I am to rely on a jack alone without jack stands. I've witnessed a jack leak down though it was well maintained. Good video. Thorough instructions are appreciated.
Great video. I have a 93 accord with a starting problem. Going to replace the fuel filter first and fuel pump next perhaps. Going on 17 years with this car. Thanks again
@@jacka5676 my issue was the main relay. They tend to go bad over time because the cars getting hot in the summer weaken the soldering points in the relay. The main relay controls the fuel pump and the voltage wasnt properly reaching the pump. I did end up switching out the fuel filter, main relay, and weeks later, the alternator. all of which were original OEM from 1993 (well not the fuel filter). but it runs great now.
@@jacka5676 my car doesnt have ABS, its an LX. only EX and SE models came with ABS i believe. Bro Im a retired Firemen. Your car needs additional Jack or blocks, just in case. I have ben on two calls where the jack failed and the person underneath almost died. Just double it. Not trying to get into your business...
i like too double up on my jack stands, anything can happen, tires can lose air pressure, hydraulic jack can lose pressure or flip, even seen the ground give away. thank for video tho

Thanks for the video on the fuel tank removal. I also have a 91 Accord that the fuel pump quit on, was sitting for a number of years, gas smells bad, even though I put Sta-built, and other additives in the gas. When I drained the tank the liquid was orange, smelled real bad!
excellent video. extremely useful. but i agree with the fireman. i've had 3 new jacks fail on me, never get under the car without jackstands. just my advice. better safe than sorry.
It sucks that this model doesn't have the opening in the back to get to the fuel pump...(honda accord ex 4door) but watching this vid made my job alot easier... thanx bro.
I am no mechanic, but I refuse to get rid of my 92 Honda Accord. This really helps me out and I'm definitely saving it for later. Thank you for the video, because now I know what I have to do and how much a pain in the ass it will be!
I was having issues w my fuel pump also, I added Lucas oil fuel injector cleaner in the tank and its been working so far. Lately its been hot here in NY so if it doesnt start right away I also unscrew gas cap and relieve pressure . And it seems to work so far.
Upon re-assembly, we have a leak at the end of the high pressure line. (Not at the banjo at the top of the tank, but the next junction down) Is there a washer that goes in there? How tight should this be tightened?
good job. i have a 93 honda accord ex, im having trouble staring in the mornings or after sits 4 hrs, but starts most every time during the day or nites when u are using it, only when it sits awhile. my fuel pressure is at 30 at the rail. so im going to change the fuel pump, check out how i changed mine at honda accord ex 90-93, ,i cut out a opening like the other side where the sending unit sets. newer hondas have an entry behond the seats. so thats what i did so i will never have to drop my gas tank to change the fuel pump. Well if you could check out the Gyro videos and share any you think are interesting that would be helpful enough. Thanks for your reply and have a nice day
ive got an 87 accord exi that has rust in the tank, how did you clean your tank? im thinking of vinegar but i dont know how you got all the little particulates out. im sure a shop vac would blow up using it to clean out dirty gas
GyroGerald Ive talked to my automotive teacher at my school and he said to use muriatic acid then por-15 to restore the tank, im just worried about that housing shell the pump slides into if that will effect the cleaning process at all
You are correct, if i did it again I would just replace the pump. I can not remember if I had information of the pump already being replaced but maybe i was just being cheap. But YES, I would replace the pump if I went through all that work again.
@GyroGerald I'm in the middle of that job right now and it sucks. I lost a part in the tank and have to fish it out...needless to say, not a job I want to do again soon.
I have a 91 that wont crank, starter is good and I have brand new relays for main power, pgmfi, and new fuses for clutch sensor and ignition. Brand new battery and terminals, and I still have no cranking.. fuel pump wasn't coming on so I have a brand new one waiting to go in. Any idea what I can do to get cranking going? I can even jump the starter with a screwdriver but no crank at the key...
I don't remember exactly. I think I may have poured out what fuel was left inside of the tank and the maybe just wiped out the plastic container inside the fuel tank with a paper towel. If your tank has a large amount of dirt or rust then you may need to rinse with kerosene a few times to remove anything loose inside.
@GyroGerald thank you so much for replying....I'm not sure lol...but if its the part that is right next to the fuel pump when u dropped the tank then yes... My question is if that is off will that affect the fuel getting to your motor i have a 93 integra and just recently changed my pump and that piece came off and The car still wont start could that be why or is there something else wrong? Again thanks for replying and your help.
I am thinking your problem is something else, I thought the setup your referring to was for tank pressure equalization or return fuel to tank etc, If your part was missing and it was for return fuel then I would think you would have gas spilling onto the ground. If it was so air could get to the tank then it should still work but may seep gas if overfilled. Just plug the open hose and see what happens or replace the part. To see if your problem is the pump, Unplug the fuel filter, have someone else turn on the ignition and check for fuel being pumped to filter. If you have fuel then troubleshoot your problem towards the engine. If you dont have fuel then check to see if fuse is out or if pump is working etc. If someone else knows more about the part in question on top of tank please chime in.
We tried no fuel is coming to the filter the fuel pump is new but we are going to drop the tank again to see if i may have gotten a faulty pump from the car place but if not i'm stomped😫...But i do appreciate your reply😊.... As for that part i'm trying to find the piece to replace it but no one knows what it is i went to all the auto parts stores in my area and no one knows the name of that part so i don't know how i'm going to replace it. 😞 and yes if anyone out there knows anything you comment would be greatly appreciated!!!😊
GyroGerald I jacked up my car and removed those two smaller fuel lines by the tank feeding the engine. I had someone turn on the ignition and no fuel came out. Is there supposed to have fuel come out when the ignition is on? I also tried to start it and fuel still didn't come out. Is this a sign that maybe a the strainer is bad? Or maybe also a combination of both the pump and strainer? Or is there another step in the ignition system that wont let the fuel come out? Please help Thank you
When you try to start the car listen and see if you hear the pump running, like making a low buzzing sound. If you don't hear the pump you may have a bad fuse relay under the front of the dash. If so you may get lucky and can just solder the bad connections on the relay. If you do hear sound from the pump in the tank then it may be the strainer clogged or something wrong with the pump itself. Like and share my videos, thanks
GyroGerald thank you, the pump does make the whirring sound but no fuel. I'm going to change the strainer and pump. I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you
hey bro I have a 95 accord and Im trying to remove my fuel tank its the same setup as yours but my high pressure fuel line broke where it twist off at how can I fix it by tomorrow and not having to spend alot of time
@gyrogerald Hey I changed the pump and the strainer. Is there supposed to be fuel coming out of the two smaller tubes when you turn the ignition? After I installed the pump and assembled everything back, I connected it back and then I hit the ignition and turned on the car. The car turned over and I didn't see gas come from those two smaller lines. But gas starting coming out of the hoses coming from the engine side so I quickly put it back together. The car ran for like five minutes then it turned off. It turned right back on but that as far as I got. I checked voltage and it was showing 6 and 12 at the connector on the trunk of the car. Maybe the relay? I haven't changed the filter yet. I'll try that, but I don't have my hopes up, the strainer looked fairly new. Any suggestions? Thanks

If I remember right the OEM Honda fuel pump was expensive and I dont know if I wanted to try the aftermarket or OEM untill I was sure I needed the fuel pump.
