    I desperately wanted to fall in love with this after the excellent original, but it feels so soulless now. A strange design choice if you ask me, but in saying that most reviews are giving this a stellar score so as always check out other reviews and go from there. Love to you all, Reggie xxx

      they should've made it more personal but with more detail mechanics, let the player be a person living in the city of the frostpunk universe, this war of mine in frostpunk, with conflicts, problem solving, missions, management, assigning tasks, survival, etc

      Original was meh. You couldnt stray off the correct path, if you did, you lost the scenario. Game was pretty easy, no real replayability. Not a bad game, but felt very streamlined and limiting.

      Was going to do a review in that comparing it to Helldivers 2 funnily enough. Ended up working on my Satisfactory review (coming next!) so maybe I’ll do Space Marines 2 shortly. And yes, as a new player to Space Marines, I guess I was expecting something a little more. Got bored of it relatively quickly (but sure does look nice!)

    how's the diversity of play in this? My biggest issue with a lot of builders is that once you "solve" it, you can just do the same (or nearly the same) thing every time and win, rather than having to vary your playstyles depending on the map

    • @KarlKapo
      @KarlKapo 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      That was the biggest fault of the first one. One or few, very limited paths could win the scenario.

    It would be useful for the game to see some line of events with individuals of interest in the city, for example the kids fighting with knives. Imagine thst you start this pop up with a family and follow-up events/pop-ups shows what lead up to the kid joining a fighting gang, this would give us more touch to the city, seeing what lead to the problem not only seeing the tip of the iceberg

      I disagree. I dont want to play sim city either. I love frostpunk though. Comparing it to civilization is just..its not the same these games have limited political choices shaping the world. Most of these games you are either a militairy society or economic religious or scientific.. but it doesnt go in detail. No extremisme.. u have cultures.. roman.. but roman is not a political side..its just a different culture of the Imperial society. Frostpunk has foragers and different versions of them. So much more details and actual focus on the society you build and not just the building and especially frostpunk 2. I do wish that they added like..more of a individual people mechanic like in frostpunk 1 seeing as it makes things personal and because of the city size and personal issues it felt more drastic. Despite this i love the "larger" idea. Not nessecarily hate districts or love them but i do love the larger then before idea instead of just the same game but newer like some remake but with a small story twist of being in the future.

    I couldn't agree anymore.
    The biggest take away and disappointment is that it could of been so much better, without very little actual changes to what we have in Frostpunk 2.. They just needed to make that connection between struggling to survive, and your people and the push and pull and sacrifices you need to make to make it work.
    Instead we got a city builder on par with a 1995 game, just with better graphics, and a completely disconnected faction system that feels like it was slapped on at the last minute, and doesn't interact with the actual gameplay like the first one did.

    Problem for me is the interface and trying to juggle 50 things at the same time. There are so many demands and systems you have to micromanage that I would need to take a sniff of white powder. In the end I fixed all resource problems but factions for some reason wanted me dead and I had no trust even though there were no shortages. It might be game forces a last crisis on you but to me it felt like game was cheating me out of a win. I quit while in the last chapter just could not be assed to engage with all the systems anymore.

      “Cheating you out a win”…. So I was tempted to put a similar line in the review on this and I’m glad you said it. I get the game is hard. I get it sort of wants you to struggle. @@cockneygamer I'm glad I wasn't only one not feeling this new Frostpunk. I understand it's hard to do difficulty in these games but this is definetly not the way. You're chasing relations with factions, goods, trust, then you don't have enough capacity of routes to supply main city so you're chasing a fix for that... Game definetly pulls that "AAA gotcha bro" way too many times when you could've succeed if you weren't fighting the UI and nebulous systems so much.

      Agreed. Some commentators got hooked up on the Civ comment I made. Of course it’s a different game… what I was getting at was how you’d build districts, not plan and place individual buildings or roads and how everything was leaning heavily to politics. It’s a very different game to FP1 for that reason (other than the great setting of course).

    Sorry to hear this one wasnt your cup of tea. The original definitely felt much more 'arcade-y'(if thsts even the right term) but fp2 did a great job of expanding everything. If they were just going to make a game like frostpunk they should have just updated frostpunk. It was at its best with the unforseen consequences where some laws or decisions from a long time ago can come back way later for better or for worse unlike frostpunk 1 where its a good bit more predictable. I personally didnt have an issue with the UI but i definetly see how it can be a pain. Either way fp2 definitely caught my eye but I wish fp1 had mod support like the sequel. Imagine what kinds of scenarios we could have had

    Many issues are preventing the game from being playable for me. The top issue is the resolution adjustment that is locked in Window mode! I have an Ultra Wide Monitor and play many games that require onscreen navigation and selection in a Windowed 2560x1440 mode, and that option is not there! So now my only option is to play in 5120x1440, which is beyond tedious. I played FP1 with no problem in 2560x1440. Right now, the game is not playable for me, and there are other bugs. I should have waited and once again kicking myself for getting a game when it releases. Agreed, Playing FP2 doesn't feel like it will be as enjoyable as FP1. Due to the issues with FP2 I am not able to play and going back to FP1 for a bit.

      It’s all good mate, no issue in what you say. There are some games so grand, so big and so genre defining that I think the expectation from a gamer is more of the same in terms of structure but improving in key areas. I think Frostpunk original fitted into that… I do think a lot of gamers will go into this blind having played the excellent first one and be somewhat surprised. And by the way, some people are going to LOVE this new change.

    • @colvamoon6962
      @colvamoon6962 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @cockneygamer yeah. The feeling I got from this is you wanted it to be both FP1 and 2 combined, but that would strain the game unimaginably. That part you mentioned about the graphics...now imagine if you could zoom in all the way, and see people walking (though, given how the time is in days instead of minutes, that would be impossible).

    • @cockneygamer
      @cockneygamer  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Haha… Cities Skylines 2 tried exactly what you mentioned that and the engine crawls to a halt at big population sizes so point well made.
      I guess I was after FP1 with more buildings and design choices, maybe rival cities to contend with (not an RTS though). And maybe on expeditions making it way more involved vs a few button clicks here and there to get things moving and decisions to be made. The outposts I give them credit for trying to make it how it is, but for me they changed too much of its core structure in the city build aspect (going from massive districts and removing your ability to build a city) and maybe instead they could have ventured into other areas to improve upon (I thought the original expeditions were “ok” but a tad boring too).

    No problem being the odd one out. I don't understand how you connect to people in FP1.... they're just names.... you have hundreds of them. At that point hundreds or thousands does not matter.
    What I hate about FP1 is that buildings change size so unless you keep doing stupid tricks with building streets into nowhere you cannot pack your buildings optimally. It's. great game though. I think I will give this one a whirl. I like it when reviewers explain their reasoning so that I can disagree with them. It makes it easier to know if a game is for me or not. So thanks for that.
    .... with that said.... my backlog is full as it is.... maybe I should just play Space Marine (I not II) before I buy this.

      What made fp1 gutwrenching was the fact that it was your city, few people YOU were in charge of. It was quite visceral to seal their fate.
      Geowing that to thousands of people makes it less impactful. You care less about a few deaths and they mean less, are more dehumanised.
      An other iption would have been to put the player even closer to his denizens, have them all have personnalities, names, unique abilities, etc.. to make the version2 deeper and further delve in what made fp1 unique in the city builder genre.
      Not saying that 2 is bad, it seems like a good game, just that it diverged from it s concept.

      @@etienne8110 it is still your city and i think you got a bigger stress when your decision kills thousands of peoples.

      A very fair point mate, but as @etienne8110 sums it up nicely, this game is now just a statistic. I could argue my decisions affect the thousands of people in Cities Skylines, where poor planning disasters can strike and kill off a load of people. The same can be said for Anno games. Or the original Sim City games.
      A game like They Are Billions is a good comparison for me… it still has scale but feels little more personal… I get it’s an RTS but that has that feel of desperation. The issue then with FP2 is that you just don’t engage with your city people at all. You don’t watch then push through the snow and struggle. You don’t interact with families and see their light. Now they are just a spreadsheet and for me it loses something by keeping you zoomed out and away from what made FP1 so good - that feeling of consequence and struggle.

      YES!!! In fact, it’s already done, I just need to edit in the video. I’ve done 100 hours in the beta and probably the same since release… it was difficult to get this Frostpunk review out to be honest as I’ve been playing Satisfactory so much! (Might be a hint on the score there!). Review will hopefully be done in time for your Saturday morning cuppa!

    Starting release sales while Steam reviews are disabled is a huge red flag for me, and I'll cheer on failure for any developers or (probably more likely) the publishers that do this. While it looks cool (heh), I never clicked with the original, and this kind of fuckery around the release means I can take this off my wishlist and forget about it.
