mother mother actually makes music for you to interpret it in any way you want but the most famous meaning is two gay couple “doing it” in the hayloft but one of their fathers is homophobic and he finds this out so he goes to the barn and kills them both so you were right lol i hope to see more mother mother reactions by you i recommend verbatim, oh ana, burning pile, and body there are more but those are my favorite :)

I always interpreted that choppy style in the vocals to be the singer almost kinda gasping in surprise as their boyfriend is, well, you know. Doing their thing lol. That dark turn to me is kinda the point in the song where the singer's dad actually barges into the hayloft and they're like "okay he's actually here now and guess what? he's got that gun I told you about!"
Also the lovers in the song are written to be gay, I'm assuming this is supposed to take place in like a super rural town that isn't so accepting of that kinda thing lol.
