Fenton - I think 4.5L upgrade in the 718 GT4 would sound better if fitted with the JCR non-silenced race exhaust that was in the GTS 4.0 you reviewed while in Vancouver. The JCR exhaust has a scream... and getting to 8-9k might be really crazy. But yeah... boring out the engine increases power and makes it louder from the larger displacement, but the GT3's 4 liter engine screams because of the shorter stroke I believe. Also needing to add octane additive every time you get gas (and you have to measure it) is kind of an annoying inconvenience to an otherwise very low maintenance, 'get in and drive' kind of car IMO.
Hi Zygrene. Love your content. I realy want to ask u, what do u think about your ex brz compared with this 3 porsches in the fun factor? at canyons/ tracks?

I have driven most of the mezger applications and owned 996tt for a few years, yes they have their special crackle bang and noise especially lower rpm, but I am just a sucker for the 9a1 design in all 991.1 and later gt applications they just sounds more screaming in last thousand rpm. Especially 991.1 have that metallic grinding noise even at idle, that was my favorite for whatever reason. Otherwise, the earlier car probably is more interesting to drive beside the engine, more analog, more effort, harder to drive, especially 996 gt3. The manual and clutch is lot more involving, require you to pay more attention. For me I think 991.1 is for me since they are cheap and I felt I like the engine note the most, but each has their own opinion

Any 997 GT3 with the Mezger engine and Hydraulic Steering is a better 911 to drive than the much larger 991 or 992. Get one while you can. I heard they only built 2400 GT3 997 world wide.

991.2 GT3 with Manual is peak Porsche to me, Best engine hands down, most developed racing engine, bullet proof with 9000rpm. Still anolog and not soo small as a car that it looks odd around modern cars, and not big like 992 that it no longer fits in canyon roads
What I meant by most developed, is most evolved, Porsche made an evolution of a great engine, made mistakes with the 991.1 engine, then over built it and perfected it in the 991.2. Yes it may be less anolog than a 997, but we're talking about the balance with modern technology
Don't get me wrong I love 997s, I have one, just saying the 991.2 GT3 Manual is a "balance of user experience" unmatched, and after driving the new 992, I feel were now going down. The 992 with the double wishbone is great for the track, since on a racetrack a larger footprint usually means better handling, but on the street the car is now too big, not being able to properly place your front wheels makes you lose a certain amount of confidence and driving enjoyment
997 gt3 manual for collectable status... But I'd take a 991.2... Can't afford a 992 gt3 and there are some things I don't love on the 992..tge 991.2 has a mix of buttons.. And some digital guages etc.. And that engine..
The DeMan car is not in the same class as the others - this is much closer to a stock 991 TurboS in terms of linear performance (rolling obviously, no AWD) and the brakes really remind you of which car is lighter. In the case of this specific one, the handling characteristics are also tighter than any 981-2 i've driven and resemble RS cars until you get to ~8/10ths necessitating treating it like the pivot-able mid-engine it is (camber selection plays into that - Corey has it set up pretty sharp). The nose isn't quite as on-point as on the an R-shod TurboS but when it starts to get swimmy its a lot easier to correct with the rear without having to get medieval on the throttle. This is what Porsche should have released of its own accord in the first place - it doesn't cut into 911 territory much being far less compliant, touring-friendly, lacking back seats, and that rear-engine traction but it does put into question why anyone would bother with a 570S or the like. Even the rev-matching thing here's not a gimmick as it actually provides some freedom of action for driver through complex terrain. Far as the sound goes - fine, it's no GT3RS but it lives happily in the 4-6RPM range where its guttural grunt seems very appropriate for what it's doing to the poor pavement below. A GT4RS might make sense for people seeking social acceptance through wildly expensive purchases and waiting in line for an allocation but if you want a driver's Cayman then a DeMan 4.5 is a lot more car for far less cost.
Many thanks for a great comparison video. My choice is the GT4 but agree that the 4 liter engines sound better. If you really prefer well-roundedness then I suggest you trade your fiance in for one with a little more meat on her bones.🤣
If it's really putting out 460whp that GT4 should destroy the 991 in a straight line; less weight, shorter gearing and supposedly around 60-70bhp more that the GT3 at the crank. Unless it's not really making the numbers.... Sounds like the best driving GT3 will always be a 997 or 996.
your numbers aren't accurate. Crank HP is maybe 30 more in the GT4. The difference comes down to the torque (& weight). This 981 is one of the lightest specs you could get with PCCB and LWB.
@@jvit27 They're not my numbers, they are Porsche's and DeMan's. Not sure what your point is. 991 is 345 bhp/tonne, DeMan supposedly 415 bhp/tonne with 100lbs/ft more torque from lower rpm, and shorter gearing. It should destroy the 991 in a straight line.
DeMan 4.5 is quicker than a GT3 of similar vintage. I’ve tested that matchup on tracks numerous times. There are plenty of other cars that are quicker still, but those are for other stories and posts.
@@samueldowney2806 Point is I've driven all of these cars in the video extensively including track time and know the actual numbers for the specific configuration, not just basing assumption from things posted online. The Deman figures you're basing off of would include a fully uncorked exhaust, which was clearly mentioned this car doesn't have. Despite that I ran down and passed a 991 GT3RS in this car so again I will tell you from experience the difference comes down to the torque & weight. The GT3 has a higher redline which allows it to stay at peak power a little longer and claw back some /but not all/ of the 4.5's advantage.
There's no way I'd spend anywhere close to $50K to aftermarket tart up a base, wet sump Carrera engine in that GT4. GT3 motorsport, dry sump lump all day homey.
You don’t what you’re talking about. The Deman is a total engine rebuild, re-engineered with top shelf components. Not much left of the stock motor when they’re done. It’s prepped just like a race engine, bored, stroked, new pistons , rods and crankshaft, with only difference is that you can spec it to use whatever fuel you want. It’s a totally different power delivery on top of a lot more power.
Ssssooo expensive tho, I mean you have be a multi millionaire justify one of those cars, my comaro ss low miles fun as fuck, like new truck, my house and motorcycle n atvs are same price as one of those cars
It's the kind of thrill I felt when riding a tractor. Internal combustion engine cars will increasingly feel this way. Even though the Kentucky Derby still draws crowds as generations change, the number of people who enjoy such things will decrease, reducing it to a peculiar hobby.
@sarmand70 how literal of you. Sure, they are worth what the market will bear. Would I blow $150k on one of these when I know I can have an equal performance car for half the price? No.
@@Mike-qq8iy For Porsche, a 997 GT2. Maybe a low Mileage 997 Turbo Manual. A Ferrari 575 with a stick. Mercedes SLS. Aston V12 Vantage with Stick. Ferrari 360 Challenge. Not many cars are worth that much to me when you can get comparable performance and handling with a late model Corvette or Camaro. I'd prefer one of those or a set up E46,E92, or even E36 M3 and save the money. If going the Porsche route, a set up 987S would drive very similar to these cars in this video for a lot less. Just my 2 cents....
Nobody who have driven a GT3 would say they’re not worth the money. The stats and the numbers on the GT3s doesn’t come close to capturing all the intangible reasons why these cars are so damn good. I used to not get it too until I get some seats time in one and I was blown away and knew I had to have one some day. Driven plenty of fast cars since, but nothing gives me the same sensation as a GT3 and nothing makes me yearn to get back in and drive it more after a drive. If anything the 997s are still underpriced.
DeMan absolutely ruins GT4 or GT3 , my personal opinion based on testing it. Just few mods (exhaust, lightweight flywheel, short gearing ) is all you need . All the owners who spend $50+k on it afraid to admit that it’s a waist of money .
Given that the DeMan motor work is about $30k, the mods you mentioned can cost more, depending on which route you go (looking at you $20k Dundon D4 kit). Also, those mods you mentioned won't give the car the 100ft lbs. like the motor work does. Pick your poison.
If you want the torquey Na driving experience it’s the only way to go, short of an LS swap but you’ll lose the flat six driving experience and the glorious revs.
@@colnagog6026this is one of the best ways to think about it. Your $ per HP ends up in a much more efficient end point with the DeMan motor. A lot of the cars come his way with bolt ons and folks just want more. Part of the joy although mentioned in the video as a little bit of a negative is that it retains most of its stock feels. The car is great out of the box just short on power. The 4.5L gives you all the great stock feels but with A LOT more juice.

Except that old car is about 180k
BRZ definitely provides poor man's Porsche vibes. Great balance and handling, good driver inputs, rev happy engine. But doesn't come close to proper Porsche GT cars in driving pleasure.
Nice comparison. Do you have any thoughts specifically about the shorter gearing in the DeMan car?
Only one - it's amazing.
Could you compare how fast the Deman gt4 feels compared to the tuned 992 Carrera s you drove?
Nice content
Thanks and same to you. You get to drive some impressive cars over in the UK!
What road is that?
Nothing compares to a Mezger. Nothing!!
Might have commented before. Heart and wallet said 991.2 pdk so that’s what happened. Drive it heaps as I’m semi retired hence the pdk. Around town and frequent country road blasts 🇦🇺
Would sport mode have changed the sound at all on the GT4?
Sport mode only turns on the autoblip rev matching for downshifts.
@@scottoconnor3484 ok thanks. Good to know bc on the 997 gt3 comparison video he mentioned he didn’t want to use sport mode but used it anyway bc the exhaust was connected to it.
Was wood a requirement for the video?
No but it's a requirement once you watch the video 🪵
11:36 going into first gear while moving at that speed? I've only ever seen Americans do this.
Can you please explain the ED\Germany license plate sticker of the GT4? It is dated for 2023, but the car is 2016? Did the owner ship his GT4 to Europe?
Car was euro delivery, plate is for 7/23/16😊
@@gtbeale lmao read it backward
@@dnlzy those euro dates always tricky 😂
@@gtbeale I have one myself, should have checked lol
Any 997 GT3 with the Mezger engine and Hydraulic Steering is a better 911 to drive than the much larger 991 or 992. Get one while you can. I heard they only built 2400 GT3 997 world wide.
❤😂😢😮😅😅😅😊😊😊😊😊 bro you’re lucky to drive that Porsche. I wish I was in a Porsche. I’ll be flying down the highway maybe I’ll get a ticket. Oh well that’s what you’re supposed to do with those porches. Take care. Keep up the good work.
997.2 All day,
991.2 is a better sports car, but the 997.2 is a better 911 😁
991.2 GT3 with Manual is peak Porsche to me,
Best engine hands down, most developed racing engine, bullet proof with 9000rpm.
Still anolog and
not soo small as a car that it looks odd around modern cars, and not big like 992 that it no longer fits in canyon roads
Well said. It's a car that can go toe to toe with just about anything, both old school and new.
Most developed racing engine? Over a Mezger? Not even close. They even used the Mezger in the 991 cup class in the beginning years.
What? It lost hydraulic steering and is way less analog than a 997. The engine is not even close to a Mezger if you’re talking racing development
Give me the 4 liter new engine in the 997 over all three
Which sharkwerks does with the 3.9 or 4.1. 997 all day. Most engaging
@@dannyarooster best looking too, well,in my opinion
That actually makes me wonder if later 9A1 engines would fit in the 997.2… 🧐
@@thejackamothey do… it takes a lil Massaging but will fit
It does feel quicker than the 991.2 but not by a lot. Might be closer to 40-50 bhp over the 991.2.
your numbers aren't accurate.
The GT3 has a higher redline which allows it to stay at peak power a little longer and claw back some /but not all/ of the 4.5's advantage.
littt
Cayman every single day
Amen, brother.
Is that Hans Kim?
👌🏾❤️👌🏾
991.2 GT3 since it would be by DD, track and canyon car.
It’s too bad the 997s are overpriced post Covid. Those are my dream cars too
Understeer does not equal charm.
Mitsubishi Evo 9 please.
There's no way I'd spend anywhere close to $50K to aftermarket tart up a base, wet sump Carrera engine in that GT4. GT3 motorsport, dry sump lump all day homey.
Never say never…
You don’t what you’re talking about.
None of these are worth $150k
Many would disagree, proven by actually paying this amount for these machines.
@sarmand70 how literal of you. Sure, they are worth what the market will bear. Would I blow $150k on one of these when I know I can have an equal performance car for half the price? No.
What cars do you think are worth $150k?
Care to elaborate?
waste*
All overpriced cars.
Shut it. You don't know what you're talking about. And you don't need to be here or comment. Be gone. 👋
