  • Telling stories is a fundamental part of human history and culture. But how do we effectively communicate stories through images? How do we evoke emotions and establish a connection with the viewer? What techniques can we use to turn our vague ideas into finished illustrations? These are just some of the questions that we will be discussing. If you‘re curious to learn more, join Djamila’s talk “How to Tell Stories Through Illustrations”.

Definitely a teacher. Pair sharing, having the audience get involved by personalizing the content... well done.

the piece at 56:01 - I saw that randomly on pinterest when I was starting out and I tried redrawing it and it didn't go great, but it was the start of my second sketchbook and I've been drawing consistently ever since. 3 years later I followed Djamila and I had no clue that piece was hers! I'm so happy to have finally found it

Thank you Djamila. I had the same dilemma - I had all these skills but I didn’t know what to do with them. I follow a lot of artists but I didn’t know how to identify what it is that I liked about their work so in the end I think maybe it’s the color, maybe it’s the style, etc. the superficial stuff. I always felt confused as a result, thinking maybe I should draw this or that way. I didn’t understand that everything from the lineart to the colors and textures are after one goal, they are just tools to get a message across. Thank you, for helping me find a direction and for teaching us how to use our skills to reflect who we are as individuals.

Haha, Literally heading back to my couch to look at one of my Arthur Rackham books to study how he tells story with his illustrations, take a detour to jump on my computer real quick and see that this video popped up.
Now I have a dilemma on my hands.
