I love this episode so freaking much. Seeing Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger in live-action made me squeal like no tomorrow. Also, I got emotional with the lovely reunion between Ezra and Sabine.
One thing I haven't seen anybody comment on is the distinction between Thrawn and his troopers. While they've had to improvise materials and patch their armor, his uniform is pristine. Now, maybe it just was easier for them to fabricate the cloth, but it really shows where Thrawn's priority has been: the best for him and just enough for his army.
i doubt it, he probably just takes obsessively good care of his uniform more so then anyone else and stays in the Star Destroyer most of the time. I really doubt thrawn being who he is would choose vanity over giving his soldiers better armor and equipment.
Thrawn and Ezra were absolutely perfect!!! This was probably my favorite episode though by a very small margin. I still can’t believe we have live action Thrawn back in the known galaxy! I lost my mind when the Chimaera and then Thrawn showed up. That was an epic entrance! And. I yelled yes aloud when we saw Ezra.
Man, Ray Stevenson is the greatest. A powerful yet brilliant presence -- even more so than Thrawn, if I may say so. His performance almost feels Shakespearean. Every scene he's in, I get a little wistful -- because he's so damn good, and I know we'll never see him and Baylan again after this season ends.
Thrawn's entrance was fantastic with a battalion of Stormtroopers (aka Night Troopers). Something told me there is someone or something in that planet's wasteland that made Thrawn prepare and leave as soon as possible.
Rebels introduced me to Thrawn and ever since I read the trilogy and any other comic he was in. So glad they’re doing his trilogy in live action. I also think Shin will get Mara Jade’s arc at some point.
I have been binging these reaction cuts and this is the best so far. Keeping the progression of the episode mostly intact, while selecting the reaction in a way that makes sense or where they almost respond to each other, keeping a pace, and finally properly referencing the sources in the description. Well done!
The first planet we see in the new galaxy being the equivalent of a graveyard/prison for an all powerful force monster (if you’ve heard the theories you know who I’m talking about) that is also described as a land of dreams and madness is nothing short of brilliant. It makes me wonder what other horrors we see in this galaxy.
I imagine having only watched season 1 of Rebels I'd be flipping out a lot more at this ending. Then again, I did read the Heir to the Empire trilogy nearly 30 years ago, hell, my copy of the first book I had signed by Zahn himself. :)
When I first saw the Howler, I noticed that it almost resembles a Loth Wolf 🐺, and the end credits do show what looks like a cave painting of a Loth Wolf or a Howler before they show cave paintings of the Purrgil 🤔. Loth Wolves are strongly connected to the Force, capable of limited speech, and can traverse the World Between Worlds to get to different places on Lothal very quickly. I wonder if the Howlers are similar 🤔? (Yes, I am well aware of Dave Filoni's fondness for wolves 😅.)
I just love how extra Thrawn is. The giant sigil painted on the Chimaera, having all the storm troopers line up and chanting his name. He’s such a diva and I’m here for it. I do agree with the guy who said “Elon musk looking ass.” The hair….oh the hair. But Lars rocked it

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” A line from STAR WARS, along with, “Hello there” (Kenobi) that I predicted was coming, and I was thrilled beyond belief once I heard it.
Of course it takes being stranded on a distant galaxy for years under the command of Captain Enoch and Grand Admiral Thrawn for a battalion of stormtroopers to finally be a threat to the galaxy.
Yea like those two should've kissed because we all know they're more than just friends she wouldn't gamble the whole galaxy just for a friend she's got the hots for him they always had a thing for each other since Rebels.
Well, they've been apart for a longer period of time than between now (2023) and when Rebels aired (c. 2017). Sources I read say it's been between 9 and 12 years that have passed since Ezra and Thrawn took a magic carpet ride together with the purgill. So they've had some time to accept the situation. When they reunited, I also think Sabine defaulted to her previous way of interacting with Ezra, which was very much 'sarcastic friend' who knew Ezra had a thing for her but wasn't going to encourage him in any way. Ezra, it seems, has become more zen-like in his isolation, and so he is no longer the little puppy dog trying to get attention from her.

I love the idea of WHY Thrawn let's Sabine go. Sure, it's to honor Baylan's deal with her and all that... But some people might think "What? Letting her go? Why not keep her a prisoner? Thrawn's not THAT dumb, right?" And you'd be right. Letting Sabine go to search for Ezra accomplishes two things for Thrawn. 1. Trough Sabine, Thrawn could find Ezra and potentially take them both out, that's why he sends Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati after them. But more importantly... 2. It prevents any other people who followed Sabine, to go to Thrawn's location. Thrawn knows Rebels have friends always rushing to the rescue, and he's seen some things that defy convention and logic, so as an added precaution, sending Sabine to look for Ezra puts Sabine SO far away that if anyone came to look for her, they too would be INSANELY far away from Thrawn, giving Thrawn the ONE resource he needs most of all... Time. And you might think, why doesn't Thrawn send his entire army out to defeat Sabine and Ezra? Well, he does... He sends a portion of his troops that he can manage to send as he's low on manpower and resources. Those troops where sent to bolster up the forces of Baylan and Shin when they arrived to take care of Sabine and Ezra as well as potentially take out Ahsoka as well. But due to Baylan ditching everyone, Shin and the stormtroopers would not be enough to take on the three Rebels, and as such Thrawn returns his men as not to waste more than necessary. The TIE Interceptors Thrawn sends after them is again also meant to slow them down. Thrawn is doing what he can to slow them down, time is the ONLY concern Thrawn has. The Stormtroopers at the base of the tower as well as Morgan Elsbeth and the Death Troopers on top are additional hindrances to his enemies. Thrawn was just barely able to escape, going against an opponent as unpredictable, stubborn and dangerous as Ahsoka Tano made Thrawn's objective incredibly tough to reach, but he was able to at the end. Thrawn is a genius. What adversaries he was faced with made his goal almost impossible to reach, yet he did it anyways.
@15:40 so Ezra and Sabine started off leaning romantically, almost mirroring Padme and Anakin.
