Hey there, so I did buy the 890...love it...made a bunch of upgrades...looking at doing this air intake...are you satisfied with it? Did it make a distinctive difference in power? Sound? Etc?
Wow that seemed like a lot of work. Last time I did an air box modification it was on my 2001 WR 426 and all I did was take the seat off and drill a couple holes in it. Times have changed.
Thx for the video. I ordered a 23 890. Can’t wait. This will be one of the first things I do as I run same on the 350. I didn’t see a screw on cover to remove foam when washing on Rottweiler website. Suppose I could always make my own with some hard plastics and a rubber seal. I doubt it’s as much an issue as my constantly filthy muddy dirt bike but I don’t know. I plan on punishing it pretty good. Otherwise I’d buy a Transalp😂😂
Nice detailed review of the disassembly and reassembly. Question: you removed the snorkels so the intake air simply flows into the air box through the side panels instead?
yo thanks for your content - so helpful. just got a ktm after going on a tour on one in new zealand. now building out the necessary tools to do my own maintenance. Few Q's What Torque range in Nm's is speced out for the 890/Can i use one torque wrench that will covers that whole range? What brand do you recomend and do you have a list specific tools for KTM's 890? tks fank
Nearly impossible to find a torque wrench that will work on the entire range. I use a 1/4 inch KTM branded torque wrench for the smaller fasteners and a 3/8” Snap On for the larger fasteners.
The mixture is already lean of the stoichiometric mixture (optimal mixture resulting in maximum horsepower) so adding more air makes it even more lean and thus, less horsepower and even more heat. Or does the ECM compensate? I don't think so.
Very nice video. Thanks man! Looking to do this job in the next few days. What grease did you use to seal the filter to the housing? Just all purpose grease? Thanks again.
Been great. Dunno where u heard that but a foam/oil treated filter is far better for off-road than a paper filter. Multiple of us have been using them on rides with no issues other than more routine maintenance.
Hey! Thanks for all the vids and beta!! I installed that airbox in mid 2021 (best upgrade to the bike to date) and have been thinking about adding the arrow cat delete. Have you had any issues running both? I've received both yay's and nay's and appreciate your input. I'm concerned I'll have to flash or remap this thing...thanks!
No issues. I’ve installed this setup (airbox/cat delete) on a handful of 890/901s now with no problems. Obviously if u want max gains, you’ll want to remap but won’t have any issues if u don’t.
Love your videos… I do not own an 890 R yet but I am in the hunt. I have a 2020 EXC-F and it’s a fun bike but it’s not really a true dual sport adventure bike. I consider it to be 97% dirt. Don’t get me wrong it’s fine but I want a bike that I can go places on and this one is just lemonade. Looking to sell it and pick up an 890.
@@2WR Agreed, but after seeing all the drama surrounding the foam filter that was originally spec'd for these RP air boxes and passing dust into the intake, I'm seriously pausing on ordering. I realize the new triple stage filter is supposed to protect against the dust passing issue, I have serious trust issues with RP. They refuse to admit they made a mistake (for legal reasons, I'm sure) and that's not going to gain trust of the community.
Those small bolts with nuts on them are they on the inside of the air box if so if those nuts come off they will go straight into the engine not good. Maybe put some lock tight on them.
I'd be shocked if you noticed in gain in power, but kudos to Rottweiler for bringing products to market that will prevent you from dusting your motor!
You’d be shocked then.
Awesome, really would love your review on it and if it is worth it compared to the standard.
th-cam.com/video/0z7zMDhf3h8/w-d-xo.html Pirate Racing From Germany did a complete review with test runs. ;)

@@2WR thanks Mario I appreciate it!
You really do good work on these instructional videos. I'm looking to change out the stock filter system on my 22' 890.
Thanks 👍
Do you think this is a better option than a Rottweiler Power Plate? Is it louder?

Lol reminds me of modding the airbox on my DRZ400 airbox with a hole saw.

Great video! Very helpful. Also spotted the “KTM Orange” Crocs garage footwear! 😂
😂😂

Went from a sealed air box to open so takes on air from the entire open area now.
@@2WR So from wheezing to breezing!
Why not use the original Ktm foam filter insert? I've been using it since 2019 without any issues.
What a pain in the ass process to get to the filter lol.

Any waterproof grease. I normally have Maxima brand on the shelf.
Have you had any issues with the airbox? I've heard it hasn't been great offroad. What was your experience

Are the power gains even noticeable?
Where is the world did you learn to do all that? Was it really worth all that effort?
Been working on bikes for a long time now, the more I work on them the more I learn. I think it was totally worth the effort.
Hi, what is the hp gain please?
I assume this same filter kit fits the Norden 901 as well?
Yep. Just a slight mod on the air box install.
Is the Norden you reviewed getting one of these?
Had one put in around the same time.
Any sort of long term review on that. Dino testing or horsepower gain numbers?
You can find the dyno numbers on Rottweiler's website.
How often do you think the filters should be replaced ?
As long as they’re still in good condition, just keep reusing them.
Is remapping necessary?
No
Is it much louder than stock?
Very little and not when you’re in the throttle. The cat delete added way more db than the intake
Very good video job .. 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇

Now: How to install Rapid Bike Evo 😂 Thanks for making these videos - I’ve installed Arrow Decat few days ago by following your instructions.
Don't hold your breath waiting for that video.
Is better to adquire a k&n and cut the original box
No. Why do a hack job on such a nice bike? I’d never run a k&n air filter in one of my bikes.

Love the content but I cringe at the incessant "back in the garage today" Might just be me but I know that you can do better.
