I totally thought you were about to put together a sketchbook from a model kit. Side note, you should put together a Gundam kit. They are so so satisfying to put together.
Love the mission music intro! Also, alcohol markers go thru almost everything. It is what it is. Also, also -maybe you put the sleeve on your shelf when you start the book. When it's done, pop it back in the sleeve and shelve it. Also, also, also, khaki has green undertones - beige, more yellow. That's all i got! :)
Hullo Peter, I enjoyed your drawings as ever! Alcohol markers are famously known for bleed through! The Ohuhu markers even have a blocking sheet included with their marker sets! his way only the "backside" of your paper is effected and the bleed does not effect the opposite page in a sketchbook. Thanks for continuing to create awesome videos for all of us to enjoy.
this bleed through with alcohol markers made me switch to water based markers such as faber castell PITT pens or even kuratake brush pens that I fill with fountain grey pen ink for shading.
If I may suggest, Tombow dual brush markers...they are water-based, and I use them on very thin paper without any bleed through. But yeah, as others have mentioned, alcohol markers bleed through almost everything.
Hi peter! I don’t comment a whole lot but I have been watching you for like ten years now. You have been a huge inspiration to me. Thanks for everything you do.
Another consideration would be that sketchbooks get wider thus making difficult or impossible to get it back into the sleeve. It does seem like a nice book to have.
Yeah that’s a good point, a lot of my sketchbooks do seem to “swell”, it would be interesting if this one does something similar. Especially if using something like watercolors where the pages are more likely to warp etc
I think I would love the keep book. I love using different mediums and have a difficult time finding notebooks that’s have thick enough paper. I think I would love the pen as well.
The "local man puts pieces of life together" paragraph spoke to me in multidimensional ways when seeing your post on Insta. Amazing work as always, Peter.
I like the idea of the sleeve. I record our travels in journals. However, if I want to look back on any travel, I have to open each one up and leaf through it to find it. But having a note on the sleeve, allows for quicker access. Really and always enjoy your videos. Thank you Peter!
The opening music sounds like epic ancient royal orgy background music!! Love it!!! Keep up the good work mate :) that music alone has convinced me to buy the book :)
Hey peter, thanks for the video. Good review it feels honest. What got me really interested however is when you mentioned you made the intro music. I'm not saying to quit your day job, but I'd love to have the MP3 of the song to run in loop while at work. It's just the right amount of vaguely familiar and a little twisted yet with a sense of going forward somehow. Just the perfect thing for the mental gymnastic required for the corporate life. I bet you had fun making it and I encourage you to make more.
I personally love a good sturdy sleeve to a sketchbook. I tend to fidget with stuff a lot and do not store them very neatly because I often go back to old sketches for reference, and sleeves really help. Although I have only a couple of sketchbooks with sleeves, normally my sketchbooks are of a cheaper kind. :)
Thanks Peter. I was pretty sure we were going to see Dan in a new role as teacher for a moment there. I like the idea of a sleeve on the sketchbook, but I agree with your summary about clutter and barriers to just getting it open
I to also hate the dust covers on books and usually cut them apart to use for collage bits or additions to journalling pages in my journal. When you mentioned the kitchen I started to wonder what ever happened to the man who lived inside your fridge?
I agree..I throw away book sleeves too...I also like the bear necessities...edc, minimalistic, and highly functional functions...its what tickles my fancy.
I usually put my sketchbook in my bag inside of a spare laptop sleeve because I've often travelled in rain or spilled coffee on occasion on my bag and managed to soak through part of a sketchbook that way. Maybe the sleeve was made for the accident prone like me.
I would only use the covering once I’m completely finished with the sketchbook. Also I like that the sleeve is blank so that you can customize it. But also I’m a person who loves “finishing” sketchbooks so maybe it’s just me.
Love this drawing!!! Yea, that journal looks like it needs tweeking. Might be ok for just pens. 🤷♀️ The case for it would appeal to journalers who like to save their old journals and read them years later. I would put the case on my journal shelf and save it for when the journal was full. They should look at producing this journal with FP friendly paper instead. That would be a winner with this case for safe keeping. Stay warm!
If you're looking for some paper that can handle alcohol markers. I still think Rendr is the best sketchbook on the market for it. They're not cheap, and I wouldn't use them for watercolours or even really ink washes, as massive saturation is the only thing I've found to mess the paper up. But acrylics, oils, acid based markers like copics. Eats em up. Blackout on the other side.
I too removed the dust covers on hardback books! It would quietly irritate me when I would get a book from the library, but the dust cover was glued or something to the book (to prevent theft I guess). But for me it would just make the book more annoying to handle.
I appreciate a cover as where i live dust builds up really quickly on the tops of books etc. Ive had quite a bit of paper ruined as it's the kind of dust that doesn't wipe off properly, sticky if you try dry and stains the paper if you try to wipe damp. I keep all my important books or paper supplies in plastic bags if they don't have their own covers. If a book comes with a cover it always looks better than a plastic bag on the bookshelf.
The cover is more to keep the edges sharp as new when repeatedly taken somewhere over a long period of time I suppose. Because the notebook is to keep. 😅
@@K-a-n-d-i-s Sure they would, some degradation of the "edges" on what is essentially a 2D plane wouldn't be enough to not make it an "edge." We're talking about paper here, how do you "dull" the edge of paper? It might not look as pristine as when you bought it, but unless you actually wear down an entire sheet of paper, it will still have an "edge."
Yes, alcohol inks tend to bleed through any kind of paper... ugh! I sometimes wish that more of my sketchbooks came with those box sleeves so I could put them on the shelf and see the dates right away. To each his own. I love Legos, but I agree with the clutter concept. I like to design and build with small pieces of wood and a good whittling knife. Old school. I used to carve my doll furniture when I was a little girl.
Omg, you gave me the idea to very make a very customized very own 3D printed sketchbook with clips and cubbies for everything perfectly! Will I make it. No. But thank you for giving me the idea! If somebody wants one that might get me going...
Hey Peter, love your channel! I got the black and silver Peter Pen and I was just wondering as someone new to drawing in general but especially with pens, what are some good paper options that stand up to the oh-so-juicy lines that the Peter Pen lays down? Have you used any paper that is both feather and bleed resistant? Cuz let me tell you, printer paper is neither of those things! If you could recommend some good options in both sketchbook form and loose leaf, I’d really appreciate it. Or maybe a paper review video could be helpful to people like me who are just starting out with ink drawing. Thanks in advance for any advice you have and keep up the good work!
Alcohol markers will pretty much ALWAYS bleed through paper, that’s just how it goes haha! There is only one sketchbook that has no bleeding that I’ve found, and it’s the CRESCENT BLENDR No Sho Through sketchbook made specifically for that.
Yeah! Crescent Rendr! I filled up one of those. Something magic about the pages in those. The only big downside is it’s very difficult to get them to lay flat
The refill is Schmidt P8126 Rollerball in these $85 pens will also fit inside the Lamy Rollerball, Retro 51 Tornado, Kaweco Sport, and Monteverde pens. These refills aren’t unique to this pen. The refills will also fit some over the counter pens.
the marker bleed through is really not that severe. I expect paper like that to suck up all of the marker ink, possibly leaving patchiness and use way more juicy marker ink than necessary. I wonder how this paper plays with fountain pen and India inks, both for doodling and washes of color (painting with the inks)
maybe the sleeve helps keep the book flat? my sketchbook that ive used for awhile doesnt close as tightly now that most of the pages are filled, maybe the sleeve helps the book keep its shape as the pages get filled⁉️thats my guess
