I purchased one and the instructions that came with it were a little vague. I needed to charge my Weize 100ah AGM batteries that was fully discharged. It took 10 hrs to get to 100% flashing should be done soon, great little charger. Your video is very well done, thanks.
This was an amazing video so so helpful as I bought a motorbike that was parked for a long time and just bought on Amazon this item and this review shows me I made a great decision. Thanks for this video. 11/2024
I am so impressed with this charger; I borrowed this charger from my neighbour; the principal resident is in care for an accident he had in January, his son Steve loaned me this charger but there were no instructions. I read that it was best to only place the clips on the terminals and then connect to the electric le receptacle. I did just that and waited like it seems only minutes and the digital display said full….. shocked to say the least, pardon the pun ! It was so quick and after viewing your video it appears that the system is completely automatic. The unit shuts down when the charge is complete and from what I understand will remains vigilant after the unit informs the user if the battery is charged. I will return to my shed and reconnect the electrodes and leave the system be monitored throughout the night and will disconnect in the morning. Please send me the links so that ai can be sure that you personally receive a small commission for your online video presentation. I really love this unit and now that I have viewed your video I am ready to work with it without fear. Sincere thanks…. I have no links so if you respond to my message, please provide me with the link so that when I purchase one yo will receive compensation. Best my mechanical friend !
Thanks! If you want to leave the charger on the battery for a long time, and maintain the battery then select maintenance or motorcycle mode. The other modes will do one complete charge cycle and stop. Check the description underneath this video for a Amazon purchase link. I'm glad it worked well for you, I think this unit represents excellent value.
Hey, I just wanna commend you on putting together an excellent video very informative very clear. I’m super critical and TH-cam videos and the content that people put out but yours is just very thorough and you’ve got yourself a new subscriber even though automotive is something that I normally do not have interest in that it’s the one where I can show you my support thank you.
Awesome review of this YONHAN battery charger Barry. I just got one this week with the main use of keeping my solar battery up and running good. (Everstart DC24 Deep cycle marine battery). Now I get to use it to charge my girlfriend's Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Really enjoyed your tutorial! I checked out several TH-cam videos on this subject and your video best the others by leaps and bounds. Thanks ! Tom Midura
Amazon product description states 110V, I'm planning to take this to country with 220/240v. Do this support higher volts and does it mention on back of the product. Thanks
On the back of my unit it states input voltage of AC110 - 220v 50/60 Hz. Based on that, I think it could be used worldwide (of course, you might need a power plug adapter).
Thanks, Barry! Great video! I have a some questions... Regarding settings... Std vs Wet. My truck has a DieHard Platinum EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery). It was my understanding that Flooded and Wet mean the same thing and that a flooded lead battery was a standard car battery. I could be confused. Do you know which setting would apply to that battery? Also, I have a small travel trailer with a deep cycle battery. Which setting would apply to that? Also, I have a standard sealed lead battery in my motorcycle. I'm guessing the motorcycle setting would apply to that one. Is that right. Lastly, I plan to rotate this charger around my garage to keep all the batteries in peak condition. Is there a flaw in this plan? Thanks again!
I think you're correct, I would charge the truck battery and the RV battery with the standard automotive battery setting. For the motorcycle battery you could use the small battery setting or the motorcycle mode. The motorcycle mode, which I would call maintenance mode, is designed to gently charge a battery fully and then even though it says "off" the unit continues to monitor the battery and will do another top off charge cycle as required to maintain the battery in a fully charged state -- so you can leave the charger connected to it for months and it will maintain the battery without overcharging. You can also use the "M" mode for larger batteries too. The other modes will do a full charge cycle, and then stop. Good luck!
Thanks for this very in-depth review! I'm sold and will very likely buy it. My only question is whether I can use this charger while my battery is plugged and connected to my car. Or do I have to remove the car cables? Please let me know. Thanks, Barry!
You don't have to disconnect or remove the battery from the vehicle. I usually charge batteries in place. The exception might be the pulse repair mode, where it may be a little more effective (and safer for the car's electronics) if the battery is disconnected from the vehicle. Of course best practice would be to remove the battery before charging, since there is always a slight possibility of damaging the cars electronics. I have not experienced any damage to the vehicle or problems charging batteries (or even pulse repair) with the batteries still connected to the vehicle.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I have a bad battery that louse power very quickly. Do I have to fully charge first and then switch to repair mode, or directly hold it on repair mode 24 hours?
I think you could do it in either order, but I think I would use pulse repair mode first and let it work on the battery for a day. Then on the second day I'd do a full charge. I believe the pulse repair mode will leave the battery in a fully charged state when it is complete and the 2nd charge cycle will probably just be a quick top-off. Good luck, I hope your battery recovers.
Thanks for the information, I recently bought the same charger and I was wondering does the Standard mode continue to maintain the battery or does it have to be in the motorcycle mode..... thanks
I believe the standard modes do a single charge cycle. The motorcycle, or maintenance mode is for long-term charging where it will "wake up" and re-charge automatically as needed.
I had a spark when using this on my car battery (battery was out of the car and unit not plugged into the mains). I connected the positive terminal first and then the negative. When the negative cable made contact, there was a spark. Is this normal?
Nice review! I have a question, however. I have a full size AGM battery in my car. I charged it using the AGM setting to a point where the display on the charger reads OFF. To keep the battery maintained while the car is in seasonal storage, do I leave the charger in AGM or Motorcycle mode? Thanks!
Thanks!! I would use motorcycle mode -- my understanding is that is the only mode where the charger will monitor the battery and turn itself back on and do an occasional charge cycle as necessary to maintain full charge over long periods.
Yes, in motorcycle, or maintenance mode, the charger will monitor the battery and run charge cycles as needed to keep the battery in top condition. In this mode, you can keep the charger connected to the battery for long periods, and it will maintain the battery The unit may say OFF, but it's still monitoring the battery and when the voltage dips down it will restart do a charge cycle and top off the battery. In the other modes, the charger will just do a single charge cycle until the battery is fully charged.
Hi Barry, I want to confirm that I can leave this connected in Motorcycle/maintenance mode for a month while the battery is in and connected to the car. How did you establish that the motorcycle mode is a maintenance mode? This is very useful information, thanks. So strange that they don’t point that out in the manual.
Yes, that mode is intended for maintaining the battery while in storage, my documentation briefly mentions it, and I have left my unit attached to a riding lawn mower battery for weeks and can confirm that my unit operates as expected keeping the battery fully charged as needed. I agree that it should have been more clearly documented, and I think it's misleading that the unit displays OFF while it is still quietly monitoring the battery condition.
OMG I dont have the patience to listen to this. its painfully SLOOOOWWWWWW - BUT thats a ME issue - (im generally impatient and from North Jersey so...) but the context was GREAT! REALLY! YOu just have a Bob Ross vibe. lol I just had to FF halfway to when you began operation of the unit. These are not expensive - i have the same unit branded as NEXPEAK NC201 and it was $23 on Amazon
The other charger that I purchased is this one, which is more powerful and built well, but sometimes seems to take a longer than I'd expect to fully charge/restore a battery: amzn.to/4eThdFJ One I would consider is the Noco Battery Charger, which gets good reviews: amzn.to/4hhwX76
My brother. Could you please help me understand how I can actually load this charger properly by plugging it in ? I am saying that because every time I try to plug it in to the ac socket I get that flashing indication that the charger is not loaded. Thank you in advance.
If the battery you're trying to charge is completely flat (0V), the charger won't recognize it as a battery. What you need to do is attach a jump starter pack to the battery so that current is moving through it, then the Yonhan charger will recognize that it is a battery and start charging it. Then remove the jump starter pack and allow the Yonhan charger to charge. This is one drawback of "smart charger"...it sees a zero charge as no battery.
Hi Barry, great video, thanks! Questions please, if storing a car for a few months can you leave the mode on STD and that will fully charge and then trickle charge or should it be left on Motorcycle (maintenance) mode when being left for that duration? Is there any rick to leaving it on STD for the two months? Thank you!
Thanks -- My understanding is that you want to be in motorcycle/maintenance mode for long term maintenance of a battery to gently keep it fully charged during storage. The other modes do a single charge cycle and then stop.
This unit is a charger, not a jump-starter. You could attach it to the battery, no need to remove battery from the vehicle. Let the charger run for a few hours until it says the battery charge is complete, and then the car should start. If you jump start the car (a different device - not with this unit) you may get the car running, but you would still need to recharge the car battery. Over time, the car can recharge its battery, but it would be better to put it on a charger to quickly and properly get the battery recovered.
Hey Barry, Very nice video and Thanks! Question though. In recovery mode on a very troubled battery, how do you keep the pulse mode on for 8 or more hours?. Seems like it wants to turn to Off than be over ridden to pulse. Thanks!
I just tap the mode button until I get to the last selection, pulse repair, and let it go. I've run this mode for a day or more on some batteries. it may stop, if it feels like there's no more need. I would think if the battery doesn't recover with a full day of pulse operation, it's probably unlikely to recover.
Yeah I got one of these for 15 bucks on sale at Amazon and it’s crazy how many more features it has compared to some other ones I’ve had that cost 4x as much as this
Kind of an off-the-wall question. Do you think this is powerful enough to use as a power supply on a test bench for car amplifiers? I'm looking for a budget charger to build one
I would not advise using a car battery charger as a bench power supply for checking car audio for a couple of reasons. Most battery chargers will not activate unless they see existing voltage and think they are attached to a proper battery. So it may not even turn on. Most battery chargers do not provide clean pure filtered DC, ripple in the power output may likely cause your audio to have a nasty buzz or hum. Thanks. An "old-school" manual battery charger (that doesn't do any battery detection or fancy charge types) may work, but these are getting increasingly difficult to find, and they don't provide clean regulated DC power, and may put out more than the 12-14v you desire. A used car battery, even if it doesn't have the capacity to nicely start a car anymore, would probably be a cheap solution if you have a charger to maintain it. My question is this: Can I use it to charge a 12v Sealed Lead Acid (SLA/AGM) 9 Ah battery (I don't know how many Cells) that I have for my Generator? If I understand correctly, a charger should be no more than 10-20% of the battery's rating, otherwise overheating and battery damage may occur. Or does this Yonhan Charger account for that and make the appropriate adjustments? Thank you so much.
There is a mode for charging smaller batteries and I have charged all sorts of batteries large and small successfully. Is the charge current too much for a small battery, I don't know, but it seems to work for me.
If you would have known this little charger was so good when you were searching for a really good battery charger, would you have looked deeper into Yonhan and considered a larger or maybe the best offered by Yonhan?
